The best-paying remote jobs open to Nigerians in 2026 are in software engineering, security, data, cloud and database work, followed by product, project and specialist sales roles. US pay for these is above $100,000 a year, though companies hiring from Nigeria usually pay well below that.

In short
- The top-paying remote work open to Nigerians is technical: software engineering, data, security, cloud and database work, followed by product, project and specialist sales roles.
- US medians for these jobs are above $100,000 a year (BLS, May 2025). Nigeria-based remote pay is lower: the published figures we found put a mid-level remote engineer at about $2,500 to $5,000 a month.
- Your pay depends less on the job title than on seniority, time-zone overlap, how you're hired (contractor or employee) and whether you negotiate in dollars.
We've kept to figures we could source. Where there's no credible number for Nigeria-based workers, we say so and explain what moves the pay instead.
How to read the pay figures
There are two kinds of number in this article, and mixing them up is how people end up disappointed.
The first is US pay. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) publishes the median wage for each occupation. They are among the most reliable salary figures published anywhere, but they describe people living and working in the US. A US company hiring someone in Lagos almost never pays the US median.
The second is what remote workers based in Nigeria report. These figures are thinner: small surveys, salary platforms and self-reported data. We label each one so you know how much weight it can carry.
Use the US figure to see which jobs sit at the top of the market. Use the Nigeria figures to set your expectations and your asking price.
The best-paying remote jobs, ranked by US median pay
These are BLS medians from May 2025 for jobs that are regularly hired remotely and that people in Nigeria do get. Each role links to our guide on the work, and the last column to its salary page.
| Role | US median a year (BLS, May 2025) | Pay guide |
|---|---|---|
| Software developer | $135,980 | Salary |
| Information security analyst | $129,180 | Salary |
| Data scientist | $120,230 | Salary |
| Database administrator | $104,620 | Salary |
| Software QA analyst and tester | $104,300 | Salary |
| Web and digital interface designer | $104,000 | Salary |
| Project management specialist | $102,320 | Salary |
| Management analyst (closest match for business analysts) | $101,860 | Salary |
| Web developer | $92,650 | Salary |
| Technical writer | $90,390 | Salary |
| Accountant and auditor | $83,680 | Salary |
| Market research analyst | $78,760 | Salary |
| Executive assistant | $76,590 | Salary |
Two notes on the table. BLS doesn't have a separate line for product managers or DevOps engineers, so we haven't guessed one. And the US median for all workers was $50,980 in May 2025, which is a useful line: anything well above it is a high-paying field in the US too.
What remote workers in Nigeria actually report
Here is what we could find for people working from Nigeria. Most of it is about software engineers, because that's where the data is.
- Condia (March 2026). From a small survey of nine engineers plus interviews: Nigerian engineers working remotely at mid and senior level earn a base of about $2,500 to $5,000 a month, and senior or lead engineers can reach $5,000 to $10,000 a month. The same article puts local junior pay at ₦150,000 to ₦500,000 a month.
- Plane (salary data, method not published). Median for a remote software engineer in Nigeria: $56,926 a year, with the 10th percentile at $13,996 and the 90th at $116,938. That spread tells you more than the median: two people with the same title can earn eight times as much as each other.
- Arc (self-reported). Remote developers in Nigeria on Arc's platform expect about $53,658 a year on average. These are expected salaries, not offers.
- Levels.fyi (self-reported, 35 salaries). The median software engineer salary in Nigeria is about ₦7.1 million a year, mixing local and remote jobs. That figure is a reminder of how far apart local and dollar pay are.
For non-engineering roles we found far less. Plane gives a median of $30,703 a year for a remote customer support specialist in Nigeria, but it doesn't publish its method and that figure looks high next to most offers we see. Treat it as the upper end, not the norm.
The fields, one by one
Software engineering
This is the biggest and best-paid remote market Nigerians can get into. Backend, frontend, full stack and mobile developers are hired from Nigeria by US, UK and European companies, often through Deel or Remote. The jump from local to remote pay is largest here.
What raises pay: a public record of work (GitHub, shipped apps), strong written English, and experience with what the company already uses. See the guides for backend, full stack and mobile developers.
Data
Data scientists sit near the top of the BLS list, and data engineers and machine learning engineers are paid at a similar level. Data analysts earn less but are the most common way in: SQL, a spreadsheet tool and one dashboard tool such as Power BI or Looker Studio will get you interviews.
Security, cloud and infrastructure
Security analysts, DevOps engineers, cloud engineers and site reliability engineers are paid well because outages and breaches are expensive. Certificates count for more here than in most tech work, and many roles involve on-call shifts, so check the hours before you accept.
Product, project and design
Product managers, project managers and product designers are well paid but harder to get from Nigeria without experience, because they work closely with people in the company's time zone. A UK company is the easiest fit: London is one hour behind Lagos in winter and on the same time in summer.
Writing, finance and sales
Technical writers earn far more than general content writers, because they document software for developers. Qualified accountants (ICAN, ACCA) find remote work with UK and US firms, though US tax work usually needs US credentials. In sales, the BLS median for technical and scientific product sales reps is $104,920, and remote account executives are often paid a base plus commission.
What decides how much you're paid
- Seniority and proof. The spread in the Plane data is mostly experience. Each year of work you can show, with results, moves you up.
- Time-zone overlap. Being online for four or more hours of the client's working day is worth money. US East Coast time is six hours behind Lagos in winter and five in summer.
- How you're hired. A contractor rate should be higher than an employee salary for the same job, because you cover your own tax, pension and leave. Read contractor vs employee before you compare offers.
- Asking in dollars. Quote a yearly or monthly figure in dollars or pounds, based on the ranges above, not a naira figure converted at today's rate.
- Getting paid cheaply. Fees of 1% to 4% add up over a year. See how to receive dollar payments in Nigeria.
If you're starting from zero
None of the top-paying jobs is a beginner job. If you're new, start with a role that hires beginners and build towards one of these. We cover those in remote jobs for Nigerians with no experience and, if you're still in school or just out, remote jobs for students and fresh graduates. For a wider list by field, see remote jobs that pay in dollars.
When you're ready to apply, the jobs board lists roles that accept applicants from Nigeria, and if your CV was written for local jobs, our CV editing rewrites it for remote employers.
Frequently asked questions
What is the highest-paying remote job for Nigerians?
Senior software engineering is the highest-paying remote work most Nigerians can realistically get. Condia's 2026 reporting puts senior and lead remote engineers at $5,000 to $10,000 a month. Security, cloud and data roles at senior level pay in a similar band.
Do companies abroad pay Nigerians the same as US workers?
Usually not. Most companies pay by location, so a Lagos-based engineer earns well below the US median of $135,980. Some companies pay one global rate, and those jobs are the most competitive.
Can I get a high-paying remote job without a degree?
Yes, in software, data and design, where a portfolio and skills tests count for more than a certificate. Accounting and some security roles are the exception, because employers expect professional qualifications.
How much should I ask for in my first remote tech job?
Ask in dollars, not naira. Use the low end of the ranges above as your floor, then adjust for the company's size and location. If you'll be a contractor, add enough to cover your own tax and pension.
Are these salaries taxed in Nigeria?
Yes, if you live in Nigeria. Income from abroad counts. See our guide to tax for remote workers in Nigeria, and check with a tax professional.
