Remote jobs for Nigerians with no experience

The remote jobs that most often hire Nigerians with no experience are customer support, virtual assistance, data entry, AI data annotation, content moderation and online tutoring. Your first job will rarely pay much, so treat it as paid training that gets you the experience the better jobs ask for.

In short

  • The remote jobs most open to beginners in Nigeria are customer support, virtual assistance and data entry, AI training work, online tutoring and transcription.
  • Platform rules matter: as of October 2026 Mindrift, Preply and TranscribeMe accept people in Nigeria, while Outlier and Rev don't.
  • "No experience" still means some skill. Learn one role's tools (freeCodeCamp is free, ALX costs $5 a month), build two or three samples, then apply every day.

We'll be straight with you: entry-level remote jobs attract a lot of applicants, and the first one is the hardest to get. The people who get hired without experience usually have a clear target, proof they can do the work, and a CV written for that job.

What "no experience" really means

Employers who hire beginners don't expect years of work. They do expect you to be able to do the basic job from day one: write clear English, use the tools, be online when you say you will, and learn quickly. You show that with samples, a short test or a good interview, not with a job title.

So the plan is simple. Pick one role below, learn exactly what it needs, make proof, then apply.

Remote jobs that hire beginners

Customer support

The usual first remote job. You answer customers by chat, email or phone using tools such as Zendesk, Intercom or Freshdesk. Companies care about written English, patience and being online during their hours. Content moderation is a related entry route.

The US median for customer service representatives is $44,770 a year (BLS, May 2025); Nigeria-based pay is usually well below that. Start here: customer support specialist, call centre agent, content moderator, and common interview questions.

Virtual assistant and data entry

Managing someone's inbox and calendar, booking travel, updating spreadsheets and CRMs, doing research. Small business owners and founders hire virtual assistants directly. If you're organised and reliable, this is a good door in. See virtual assistant, data entry clerk and administrative assistant.

AI training and data annotation

AI companies pay people to rate, correct and write examples for their models. Rates can be good, but which platform accepts Nigeria changes, so check before you sign up:

PlatformNigeria, as of October 2026Published pay
Mindrift (now includes Toloka)Not on its restricted listsAbout $30 an hour on general projects, up to $90 on specialist ones
OutlierNot on its list of allowed countries since July 2026Up to $15 to $50 an hour, depending on expertise and location
RemotasksShut down in Nigeria in 2024, per Rest of WorldNot applicable
DataAnnotation, Alignerr, CrowdGen (Appen)No official country list we could confirmCrowdGen says pay depends on location and skills

Two cautions. Mindrift says some tasks are only open to people in certain countries, so the work may be uneven. And the best-paid AI work goes to people with a degree or skill to test, such as coding, maths, biology or law. More on the role: AI data annotator.

Online tutoring

  • Preply accepts tutors from Nigeria (its excluded countries are Iran, Sudan, Cuba, Syria, North Korea and Crimea), from age 18, with no certificate required. It keeps 100% of each new student's trial lesson, then a commission that starts at 33% and falls as you teach more hours.
  • Cambly asks for native English speakers and pays $0.17 a minute ($10.20 an hour), but says it is currently limiting new tutors.
  • italki had English, Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa and Nigerian Pidgin closed to new teachers in the week of 19 to 25 October 2026. Its list changes every Monday, so check again.

Preply says it may turn down applications for subjects that are in low demand, so choose a subject people are looking for. See online English tutor and online maths tutor.

Transcription

Turning audio into text. TranscribeMe says it hires transcribers worldwide (except California and Massachusetts), from 18, after an entrance exam, and pays beginners $15 per audio hour, by PayPal. Rev only accepts a short list of countries that doesn't include Nigeria. Transcription is useful as a first paid task, but it pays little per hour of your time. See transcriptionist.

Junior social media and content work

Small businesses abroad hire beginners to post, schedule and write captions, often as contractors. This is portfolio-led: three good sample posts or short articles count for more than a certificate. See social media manager and content writer.

Cheap or free ways to learn

CourseCost (as of October 2026)Good for
freeCodeCampFree, including certificationsWeb development, data analysis basics
ALX All Access$5 a month or $49 a yearVirtual assistant, data analytics, graphic design, freelancing
Google Career Certificates on Coursera$49 a month in the US; BusinessDay reported Nigerian pricing from $20 a month in 2025. Financial aid availableIT support (about 3 months), data analytics, project management, UX design (about 6 months each)
3MTTNo fee, but you cover transport and mealsFederal tech skills programme; check for the next intake

Don't stack courses. One course, finished, plus samples you made yourself, beats five half-done certificates.

How to get your first remote job

  1. Choose one role. Customer support and virtual assistance are the usual first steps. Pick the one that suits how you like to work.
  2. Learn its tools. Most support tools and CRMs have free trials or free learning material. Note what job ads ask for and learn exactly those.
  3. Make proof. Write three sample replies to tricky customer emails. Build a sample travel plan and calendar for an imaginary boss. Put them in a shared folder you can link to.
  4. Fix your CV. A Nigerian-style CV with your date of birth, state of origin and a long objective reads badly to foreign employers. One page, skills first, your samples linked. If you want a person to rewrite it, that's what our CV editing does.
  5. Sort power and internet. Interviews often ask. An inverter or solar backup and two internet options (a router plus a mobile hotspot on a different network) answer that.
  6. Apply every day. Ten good applications a week beat a hundred copied ones. The WorkRemote jobs board lists roles that accept applicants from Nigeria, with customer support and admin good places to start.
  7. Watch for scams. Nobody real asks you to pay to start. Read how to spot remote job scams.

What to expect from the first job

The first job usually pays less than you hoped and may be part-time or contract. Take it anyway if it's real. Six to twelve months of remote experience, with a reference from a foreign employer, is what gets you the better-paid jobs in our list of remote jobs that pay in dollars.

When the money starts coming in, sort out how you'll receive dollar payments and set some aside for tax. If you're still a student or about to start NYSC, read remote jobs for students and fresh graduates.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a remote job in Nigeria with no experience?

Yes, but it takes preparation. Customer support, virtual assistance, data entry, AI training work and tutoring all hire beginners. You still need to show you can do the work, with samples or a test.

Which AI training platforms accept Nigerians?

As of October 2026, Mindrift doesn't list Nigeria among its restricted countries. Outlier dropped Nigeria from its allowed countries in July 2026, and Remotasks shut down in Nigeria in 2024.

Can Nigerians teach on Preply?

Yes. Preply excludes only a handful of countries, and Nigeria isn't one of them. You must be 18 or older, and you don't need a teaching certificate.

What is the easiest remote job to start with?

Customer support is the usual first remote job, and its skills are the clearest to learn. Virtual assistance is a good alternative if you're organised.

Do I need to pay for a course before I apply?

No. freeCodeCamp is free, ALX costs $5 a month and Coursera offers financial aid. Samples of your work matter more to employers than a paid certificate.
