Frontend pays slightly less than backend on most data we have seen. We do not publish an entry-level figure because we found no credible source for remote junior pay from Nigeria.

Where these figures come from

Mid
Lemon.io active contracts with Nigerian developers, 2-5 years' experience: $21-$24 an hour, annualised at 2,080 hours (Q3 2026). The figure covers all developer specialisms, not only frontend.
Senior
Lemon.io Nigeria contracts, senior (5-8 years): $30-$35 an hour, annualised at 2,080 hours (Q3 2026). Strong seniors (8+ years) earn $35-$40 an hour, about $73,000-$83,000, but they make up only 3% of the 518 Nigerian contracts.

How that compares

Reference points from other markets. Remote pay for people in Nigeria is usually below US and UK local pay.

  • US median, web developers (BLS, May 2025) (bls.gov)$92,650 a year
  • UK median, permanent front-end developer ads (IT Jobs Watch, 6 months to Oct 2026) (itjobswatch.co.uk)£65,000 a year
  • Average expected salary, Nigerian front-end developers on Arc (self-reported) (arc.dev)$50,582 a year
  • Nigeria median, software engineers, all levels (Levels.fyi, self-reported) (levels.fyi)₦7,133,835 a year

What affects your pay

React with TypeScript is the baseline, not a premium. What lifts pay is depth: performance work, accessibility, design systems, complex state (real-time dashboards, editors) or strong Next.js and server-rendering experience.

Agency versus product company. Agencies building marketing sites for overseas clients pay at the bottom of the range or below it. Product companies with their own app pay more and keep people longer.

UK work-from-home roles pay a bit more. IT Jobs Watch's median for UK front-end ads that mention working from home was £69,305, against £65,000 for all front-end ads in the same period. UK employers that already hire remotely are often the ones open to contractors abroad.

Full stack ability. Frontend developers who can also build an API and handle a database get more offers and can argue for the top of the band.

Negotiating your offer

Frontend candidates often undersell because the role feels less technical. Do not. Bring numbers: "I cut LCP from 4.1 to 1.9 seconds on our product page" is the kind of line that justifies a higher rate.

Ask for the band first, quote annually in dollars, and confirm who pays platform and transfer fees. If you are offered an hourly rate, check the expected hours; a $25 an hour contract capped at 20 hours a week is a $26,000 a year job, not a $52,000 one.
