Where these figures come from
- Mid
- Lemon.io active contracts with Nigerian developers, 2-5 years' experience: $21-$24 an hour annualised at 2,080 hours (Q3 2026). A mid-level full-stack listing open to Nigeria on Arc in October 2026 posted $40,000-$60,000.

How that compares
Reference points from other markets. Remote pay for people in Nigeria is usually below US and UK local pay.
- US median, software developers (BLS, May 2025) (bls.gov)$135,980 a year
- UK median, permanent full-stack developer ads (IT Jobs Watch, 6 months to Oct 2026) (itjobswatch.co.uk)£60,000 a year
- Nigeria median, software engineers, all levels (Levels.fyi, self-reported) (levels.fyi)₦7,133,835 a year
What affects your pay
"Full stack" pays less in the UK than you might think. IT Jobs Watch's UK median for full-stack developer ads was £60,000 in the six months to October 2026, below backend (£70,000) and front-end (£65,000) in the same period. Many full stack ads are at agencies and smaller firms. Specialist depth on one side tends to lift pay.
Startup stage. Funded startups pay more and may offer equity; very early teams sometimes offer low pay plus equity that may never be worth anything. Value equity at zero when comparing offers.
Freelance versus contract. Freelance projects can pay well per hour but come in bursts. A steady contract with one company at a lower hourly rate often earns more over a year.
What you are trusted with. Developers who can own a product area, handle payments and deploy safely sit at the top of the range.
Negotiating your offer
Frame yourself by outcomes: "I built and shipped the subscription billing flow, frontend and backend, in three weeks" tells a founder exactly what they are buying.
Ask for the budget first. If a startup offers equity in place of salary, ask for the share count, the total shares and the vesting schedule in writing, and still make sure the cash covers your costs.
For freelance work, quote per project with a fixed number of revision rounds, and put a monthly maintenance fee in the proposal.
Questions people ask
How much do remote full stack developers earn in Nigeria?
About $44,000-$50,000 a year at mid-level and $62,000-$73,000 at senior level on Lemon.io's Q3 2026 Nigerian contract data. A mid-level role open to Nigeria on Arc posted $40,000-$60,000 in October 2026.
Do full stack developers earn more than frontend developers?
Not always. In the UK data we checked, full-stack ads had a lower median than front-end or backend ads. Full stack ability gets you more offers; specialist depth often gets you higher pay.
Is freelance full stack work better paid than a remote job?
Per hour it can be, but income is less predictable and you spend unpaid time finding clients. Many developers earn more over a year on a steady contract.
What is the US salary for full stack developers?
BLS groups them with software developers, whose median was $135,980 in May 2025. Companies hiring from Nigeria pay well below US local rates.

Salaries for related roles
- Frontend Developer
A frontend developer builds the part of a website or web app people see and click, mostly with HTML, CSS, JavaScript or TypeScript and React. It is one of the most common remote tech jobs open to Nigerians, but it is also the most crowded, so you need polished, fast, accessible work to get noticed.
- Backend Developer
A backend developer builds the servers, APIs, databases and background jobs that apps run on, typically in Node.js, Python, Go, Java or C#. Nigerian backend developers are hired remotely by foreign companies, especially those with fintech or payments experience, though most remote roles want two or more years of production work.
- Software Engineer
A software engineer designs, writes, tests and maintains the code behind products, and it is one of the remote jobs Nigerians most often get with foreign companies. Entry-level remote roles are rare, so most people get their first two years of experience locally or through freelance work before landing a dollar-paid contract.
- Python Developer
A Python developer writes software in Python, most often web backends with Django or FastAPI, but also automation scripts, data pipelines and the tooling around AI models. Remote companies hire Nigerian Python developers for all of these, and Python skills also open dollar-paid AI training and evaluation work.
