Remote lead generation marketing jobs are roles where a company pays you to bring in potential customers through email campaigns, paid ads, webinars, content or targeted outreach. You're judged on how many qualified leads and how much sales pipeline you produce. Nigerians can get these jobs, but mostly as contractors to worldwide-remote companies and agencies. Plenty of the better-paid "EMEA" demand generation jobs only hire people living in the UK or EU.
This guide sorts out the job titles, since "lead generation" covers everything from a $5-an-hour list builder to a six-figure demand generation director. You'll see what real ads asked for in October 2026, the tools and numbers employers test you on, and what the pay looks like in dollars and naira. It also covers how to build proof of results when nobody has hired you yet, and which offers to walk away from.
Quick answer
Lead generation marketing jobs include lead generation specialist, cold email specialist, PPC or paid acquisition specialist, demand generation manager, account-based marketing (ABM) manager and marketing operations roles. People living in Nigeria have the best chance with worldwide contractor jobs and agencies. Check every ad's location line, because many demand generation jobs are limited to the US, UK or EU. Pay is usually lower than US benchmarks.
What a lead generation marketing job actually is
A lead is a person or company that has shown interest and left contact details, for example by downloading a guide, booking a demo or answering a cold email. A lead generation marketer builds the systems that produce those leads and hands the good ones to sales.
Two terms appear in nearly every job ad:
- MQL (marketing qualified lead): a lead that meets the marketing team's criteria, such as the right job title, company size or level of engagement.
- SQL (sales qualified lead): a lead the sales team has accepted as worth a sales conversation.
Most lead generation marketers are measured on cost per lead (CPL), the conversion rate from MQL to SQL, and the pipeline value their leads create.
Lead generation vs demand generation
You'll see both phrases. Lead generation means capturing contact details now: forms, gated content, cold outreach. Demand generation is wider. It also covers building awareness among people who aren't ready to buy yet, through webinars, events, partner marketing and brand campaigns, so that they come back later. A demand generation manager usually owns lead generation as well, and the title tends to come with more seniority and higher pay.
Marketing-side vs sales-side lead generation
This difference decides which jobs you should apply for. Sales-side lead generation means prospecting, cold calling and booking meetings for an account executive. Those roles are covered in our guides to remote lead generation jobs for beginners and the sales development representative career. Marketing-side lead generation means running campaigns that bring leads in at scale. The job titles overlap, so read the duties and not just the heading.
The main remote lead generation roles
The table runs roughly from most accessible to most senior.
| Role | What you're measured on | Typical level |
|---|---|---|
| Lead generation VA or list builder | Accurate lead lists, CRM hygiene | Entry |
| Cold email / outbound lead gen specialist | Deliverability, reply rate, meetings booked | Entry to mid |
| PPC or paid acquisition specialist | Cost per lead, conversion rate | Mid |
| Email and lifecycle marketer | Nurture conversion, MQLs | Mid |
| Marketing operations / automation specialist | Lead routing, scoring, attribution | Mid |
| Demand generation manager | MQLs, pipeline, CPL across channels | Mid to senior |
| ABM manager | Engagement and pipeline from named accounts | Senior |
Lead generation virtual assistant
Small businesses abroad, such as real estate agents, coaches and agencies, hire part-time assistants to build lists, update the CRM, write simple email sequences and book consultations. Getting in is easiest here, the hours are often short and pay varies a lot. If you like admin work, the virtual assistant career guide explains that side.
Cold email and outbound lead generation specialist
This is a technical role. You set up sending domains, warm them up, write sequences, build lists with enrichment tools and keep emails out of spam folders. Agencies and B2B startups hire these specialists worldwide because the work is measurable and async.
PPC and paid acquisition specialist
You run Google Ads, LinkedIn Campaign Manager or Meta Ads campaigns aimed at form fills and demo requests rather than brand awareness. Clients judge you on cost per lead. Our PPC specialist career guide covers the skills path.
Email, lifecycle and marketing automation roles
These marketers turn cold leads into sales-ready ones through nurture sequences, lead scoring and segmentation in HubSpot, Marketo, Salesforce or similar tools. See the email marketing specialist guide, and our upcoming guides to marketing automation jobs and marketing operations jobs for the systems side.
Demand generation and ABM managers
Demand generation managers own the whole funnel: budget, channels, campaigns and the numbers they report to leadership. ABM (account-based marketing) managers focus on a named list of target companies and coordinate ads, email, events and sales outreach towards them. Both roles are mostly found at B2B software companies, and many are limited to particular regions (more on that below). The performance marketing manager career guide is the closest WorkRemote role guide.
What real job ads asked for (checked October 2026)
We opened several live ads to see what employers actually want. These are examples, not endorsements. Openings change quickly, so check the live ad before applying.
Worldwide contractor ads
- PR Volt, Cold Email Lead Generation Specialist: listed as worldwide remote and part-time contractor, as of October 2026. The PR Volt ad asks for 3+ years of outbound lead generation, strong email deliverability skills and experience with Zapier, Make, Smartlead, Clay and cold-calling platforms. API knowledge is a plus. No pay is listed.
- 20four7VA, Technical Marketing and Lead Generation Virtual Assistant: listed as worldwide, with clients mainly in the US, UK, Canada and Australia, as of October 2026. The 20four7VA ad is for 10 hours a week, Monday to Friday, 9am to 1pm US Eastern time, as an independent contractor with weekly payments and "competitive rates" (no figure). It wants real estate experience, CRM setup, email marketing (Mailchimp, Constant Contact or Flodesk), Canva and work samples with measurable results.
Both ads were found through Remote Rocketship's Nigeria lead generation filter. Every listing on that page said "Anywhere in the World", most were part-time, and the site marked one as a likely ghost job. A worldwide label is a good sign, but it doesn't prove a role is still open.
What "EMEA remote" can mean
Customer.io's careers board listed an Events Marketing Manager, EMEA, as "EMEA Remote" in October 2026. Events marketing is a demand generation channel. The board doesn't say which countries "EMEA Remote" covers, so you'd need to open the ad and read its location section.
Some companies spell it out. Ashby's job-board feed listed an EMEA account executive role in October 2026 whose locations were France, the UK, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, Austria and Spain. The ad says EMEA but the hiring list is Western Europe. That pattern is common in demand generation and ABM roles too. Our explainer on what EMEA means in a job description covers how to read these lines.
What these ads tell you
- Worldwide lead generation jobs tend to be contractor, part-time and tool-heavy.
- Employers ask for measurable results and work samples, not certificates.
- US-hours jobs are common: 9am to 1pm Eastern is 2pm to 6pm in Lagos in summer and 3pm to 7pm in winter (US clocks change on 1 November 2026).
- The senior, salaried demand generation jobs are more likely to be tied to a region.
Skills and tools employers test
Lead generation is one of the easiest marketing jobs to judge from outside, because the numbers are either there or they aren't. Expect interviewers to ask about your CPL, reply rates and conversion rates, and to ask you to explain a campaign that failed.
| Skill area | Tools you'll see in ads |
|---|---|
| CRM and lead management | HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive |
| Outbound and list building | Clay, Apollo, Smartlead, LinkedIn Sales Navigator |
| Automation | Zapier, Make, HubSpot workflows |
| Paid acquisition | Google Ads, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, Meta Ads Manager |
| Email and nurture | Mailchimp, HubSpot, Customer.io |
| Landing pages and forms | Webflow, Unbounce, Typeform, Calendly |
| Reporting | Google Analytics 4, Looker Studio, spreadsheets |
Skills that separate the candidates who get offers:
- Email deliverability: SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, domain warm-up, and sending limits that keep you out of spam.
- Copy that earns replies: short, specific cold emails and landing pages with one clear call to action.
- Funnel maths: working backwards from a pipeline target to the leads and budget it needs.
- Data hygiene: deduplicating, enriching and segmenting lists so sales doesn't waste time.
- Compliance awareness: UK and EU clients care about data protection rules for marketing emails. Ask the client which rules apply and how consent is recorded before you send anything.
Certifications that help (and their cost)
Certificates won't get you hired on their own, but they show you know the tools. As of October 2026, HubSpot Academy describes its certifications as free and online. The list includes Inbound (about 3 hours), Digital Advertising (about 4 hours), Content Marketing (about 8 hours), HubSpot Marketing Hub Software (about 5 hours) and Inbound Marketing Optimization (about 5 hours). For paid search, Google runs its Google Ads certifications through Skillshop. Check the current terms there before you start.
How much remote lead generation jobs pay
Pay depends on the title, the employer's location and how you're paid: hourly, by salary or by results. Nigeria-based contractors are usually paid well below US local pay, so treat US figures as a ceiling, not a target.
US benchmarks (not what you'll be offered from Nigeria)
| US occupation (BLS) | Median pay, May 2025 |
|---|---|
| Marketing managers | $166,790 a year |
| Market research analysts and marketing specialists | $78,760 a year |
Source: US Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook for marketing managers and market research analysts and marketing specialists. These are medians for people employed in the US. A senior demand generation manager is closer to the first figure, and a lead generation or PPC specialist is closer to the second. Workers based in Nigeria are usually offered less. Many of the worldwide ads we checked didn't publish pay at all, so ask for the rate before you spend hours on a test task. For dollar and naira ranges by role, see the performance marketing manager salary guide and our page on remote jobs that pay in dollars.
Example (hypothetical): what part-time and full-time contracts come to in naira
These figures are made up to show the maths. They aren't market rates. Conversions use ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN NFEM weighted average, 23 October 2026).
| Arrangement | Dollars a month | Naira a month |
|---|---|---|
| $10 an hour, 10 hours a week | about $433 | about ₦590,000 |
| $15 an hour, 20 hours a week | about $1,300 | about ₦1,770,000 |
| $1,500 a month, full-time contract | $1,500 | ₦2,043,000 |
Those are gross figures. Take off withdrawal and conversion fees (see how to receive dollars in Nigeria) and set money aside for tax (see tax for remote workers in Nigeria).
Pay structures you'll meet
- Hourly or monthly retainer: the safest arrangement for contractors.
- Base plus bonus per qualified lead or meeting: fine if the base pays your bills on its own and the agreement defines "qualified" in writing.
- Pay-per-lead only: you carry all the risk, including risks you don't control, such as the client's offer, prices and sales follow-up.
- Commission-only: usually a bad deal for a marketer. Our upcoming guide to commission-only sales jobs explains when it can work.
Which lead generation jobs Nigerians can realistically get
Answer first: worldwide contractor roles, agency roles and roles at companies that hire across Africa or "anywhere" are realistic. Senior salaried demand generation jobs at US and European software companies are harder, because many are limited to the US, UK or EU.
| Ad says | What it usually means for you |
|---|---|
| Worldwide / Anywhere | Open to Nigeria unless the ad lists exclusions |
| EMEA, with a country list | Only the listed countries; check for Nigeria |
| EMEA, no list | Unclear; ask the recruiter before applying |
| Remote US / Remote Canada | Needs residence and work rights there |
| Remote, UK or EU only | Needs residence and work rights there |
Our guides to US-only and Canada-only restrictions and what worldwide remote means from Nigeria go into more detail.
Most worldwide lead generation work is offered as a contract, not employment. Contractors handle their own tax and don't get paid leave. See contractor vs employee in Nigeria before you sign.
Time zones
US clients often want overlap with their mornings, which means Lagos afternoons and evenings. UK and European clients line up with Lagos office hours: London is 1 hour behind Lagos from 25 October 2026 and on the same time in summer. Much of the outbound work (building lists, writing sequences, reporting) can be done async, which helps.
How to build proof of results and get hired
Lead generation employers want evidence. If you don't have a client yet, make some.
- Pick one lane. Choose cold email, paid ads or email nurture. Don't try to be a "full-funnel growth expert" from day one.
- Learn one CRM properly. HubSpot's free tools and the free HubSpot Academy courses are a practical start.
- Run a real campaign at a small scale. Offer a Nigerian business, a church programme, a friend's consultancy or a nonprofit a free four-week campaign with clear targets.
- Track everything. Record leads, cost, reply rate, meetings booked and what you changed each week.
- Write a one-page case study. Cover the goal, audience, channel, what you tried, the numbers and what you'd do next. Honest small numbers are better than vague big claims.
- Tailor your CV around metrics. "Built a 1,200-contact list and booked 14 calls in four weeks" beats "Responsible for lead generation".
- Apply where the ad says worldwide or lists Nigeria, and send a short note naming one specific idea for their funnel.
Example (hypothetical): a starter case study
A Lagos-based learner sets up a sending domain for a small UK bookkeeping firm, warms it up for two weeks, and sends 400 personalised emails to UK café owners over four weeks. Replies, bounce rate and booked calls go into a spreadsheet, and the second half of the campaign tests two different subject lines. The finished case study explains the deliverability setup, both email versions and the results. It shows an employer exactly the skills the PR Volt-style ads ask for.
Our upcoming guide on building a digital marketing portfolio without clients gives more project ideas. If you're targeting software companies, read the guides to B2B marketing jobs and SaaS marketing jobs.
Nigeria-specific things to sort out first
- Dollar card for tools: Smartlead, Clay, Apollo and most sending tools bill in dollars. Some clients pay for tools and some expect you to. Agree on this in writing.
- Domains and email accounts: cold email needs separate sending domains and mailboxes, which cost money every month. Never send cold campaigns from a client's main domain.
- LinkedIn account health: heavy automation can get a LinkedIn account restricted. Use the client's account only with their permission, and stay within LinkedIn's limits.
- Power and internet: campaigns run on schedules, but live calls with US clients happen in your evening. Have an inverter or solar backup and a second connection (two ISPs, or a MiFi plus a phone hotspot).
- Getting paid: weekly-pay contracts like the 20four7VA one usually pay through a platform or a dollar account. Compare Grey, Raenest, Payoneer and Wise on our payments guide.
Red flags in lead generation job offers
Lead generation attracts more dodgy offers than most marketing jobs because "results" can be used as an excuse not to pay. Walk away or ask hard questions if:
- The job is commission-only or pay-per-lead with no base, and "qualified" isn't defined.
- You're asked to pay for "training", tool access or a starter kit before you begin.
- The client wants you to buy or scrape lists that break their country's data rules.
- The "test task" is a real campaign for their business with no pay.
- Contact moves straight to Telegram or WhatsApp and you can't find a company website or careers page.

Frequently asked questions
Can Nigerians get remote lead generation marketing jobs?
Yes, when the employer accepts applicants living in Nigeria. Worldwide contractor roles and agencies are the most open. Many "EMEA" and US demand generation jobs only hire people living in the listed countries, so read the location section of each ad before applying.
What is the difference between lead generation and demand generation?
Lead generation captures contact details from interested people now, through forms, gated content or cold outreach. Demand generation is wider: it also builds awareness and interest among future buyers through webinars, events and brand campaigns. Demand generation titles usually carry more responsibility and higher pay.
Do I need sales experience for a lead generation marketing job?
No, but it helps. Marketing-side roles care more about campaigns, tools and funnel numbers. Knowing what makes a lead useful to a salesperson makes your MQLs better, which is why many demand generation managers have worked closely with sales teams.
How much do remote lead generation specialists earn from Nigeria?
There's no reliable published average for Nigeria-based workers. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics put the median for US marketing specialists at $78,760 a year in May 2025, and Nigeria-based contractors are usually offered well below that. Many worldwide ads don't publish pay, so confirm the rate before taking any test.
Which tools should I learn first for lead generation work?
Start with one CRM (HubSpot is free to learn), one outbound tool such as Apollo or Smartlead, and Google Sheets for tracking. Then add Zapier or Make for automation. If you want the paid route, learn Google Ads or LinkedIn Campaign Manager.
Are commission-only lead generation jobs worth it?
Rarely, for a marketer. Your results depend on the client's offer, pricing and sales follow-up, none of which you control. A base fee plus a bonus for clearly defined qualified leads is a fairer arrangement.
Is cold email lead generation legal?
It depends on where the recipients live and how the data was collected. UK and EU rules are stricter than US rules for marketing emails. Ask the client which rules they follow, keep opt-out links working, and don't use scraped personal data you can't account for.
Key takeaways
- Lead generation marketing jobs range from part-time list building to senior demand generation and ABM roles, all measured on leads and pipeline.
- Worldwide contractor and agency roles are the most realistic way in from Nigeria. Many "EMEA" jobs only hire in listed European countries.
- Employers want measurable results and work samples, so build a small real campaign and write it up as a case study.
- US pay figures are benchmarks only. Nigeria-based contractors are usually paid less, and many ads hide the rate until you ask.
- Avoid commission-only offers and any job that asks you to pay upfront.
