For Nigerians, the best remote virtual assistant jobs are usually executive assistant, operations assistant, e-commerce and appointment-setting roles with US companies or with placement agencies that hire across Africa. In live ads we checked in October 2026, these roles paid roughly $1,000 to $1,600 a month for full-time contract work. Inbox-and-calendar admin is often the easiest way in, but it pays less unless you add a specialism.

The harder part is filtering. Many VA ads say "remote" but mean US-based, Philippines-only or hybrid in Lagos. This guide sorts VA work by type and shows which types tend to accept Nigerian residents. It gives pay examples from real ads, converts US working hours into Lagos time, and lists where to look for openings, including the remote personal assistant jobs people often search for under a different name.

Quick answer

The VA jobs Nigerians are most likely to land are executive or personal assistant support, operations and CRM admin, e-commerce support, appointment setting, and social media assistance. Most are contract roles with US businesses or with placement agencies such as Scale Army. As of October 2026, ads open to Nigeria showed $1,000 to $1,600 a month for full-time work. Expect US hours, which fall in the afternoon and night in Lagos, and check each ad's location line before you apply.

What a remote virtual assistant does

A virtual assistant (VA) is a remote worker who handles admin and business-support tasks for one or more people or companies. That can mean managing an inbox and calendar, booking travel, updating a CRM (customer relationship management system), chasing invoices, posting to social media or answering customer emails. The job title covers anything from a $5-an-hour data task to a senior assistant running a founder's week.

A few titles overlap, and employers use them loosely:

  • Virtual assistant: the general term, often freelance or contract, sometimes split across several clients.
  • Personal assistant (PA): supports one person, and the work often includes personal errands done online, such as bills, bookings and family schedules.
  • Executive assistant (EA): supports a senior leader. Expect more responsibility, more confidentiality and usually more pay.
  • Operations assistant: supports a team's processes (CRM, onboarding, documents) more than a single person.

For the skills, tools and courses behind all of these, see our virtual assistant career guide. The EA route is covered in the executive assistant guide, and Virtual Assistant vs Executive Assistant: Which Career Fits You? compares the two in detail.

The best remote virtual assistant jobs for Nigerians, by type

Here, "best" means a mix of three things: how often these roles appear in ads that accept Nigerian residents, how well they pay compared with general admin, and how realistic the entry route is. It is an editorial judgement based on the ads we opened in October 2026, not a ranking from survey data.

Executive and personal assistant roles

These are the best-paid general VA jobs because the employer trusts you with their time, money and private information. Scale Army, a US placement agency, listed an "Executive Assistant" contract open to applicants in Egypt, Argentina, Ethiopia, South Africa and Nigeria at $1,300 to $1,600 a month, according to Remote Rocketship's Nigeria VA listings (checked 27 October 2026). Ads like this usually ask for two or more years of admin experience and strong written English, and they expect you to work the boss's hours.

Operations assistant and CRM admin

Operations roles suit people who like spreadsheets and order more than chatting with customers. A Scale Army Operations Assistant ad on Remotive (open to Latin America, Africa and Eastern Europe, checked 27 October 2026) offered $1,000 to $1,200 a month on contract. It listed duties such as cleaning records in Streak CRM, building verified contact lists in Google Sheets and sending client onboarding emails. It asked for two or more years in admin, operations or data work and for experience using AI tools for research. The application had two stages: a form, then a recorded video showing your skills.

Appointment setting and lead generation

Appointment setters contact prospects by email, LinkedIn or phone and book sales calls for a closer. Ads for this work are common: the Nigeria VA listings on Remote Rocketship included several part-time appointment-setting and lead-generation VA roles marked "Anywhere in the World" in September and October 2026. Some of them required German, so read the language line carefully. Check whether the pay is base salary, commission or both before you accept. Remote Appointment Setter Jobs With Commission and Base Pay explains how to weigh those, and our appointment setter role guide covers the skills.

E-commerce, social media and niche VA work

E-commerce VAs manage product listings, orders and customer messages for Shopify or Amazon sellers. Social media VAs schedule posts and reply to comments. Both are realistic starting points because you can build sample work before anyone hires you. See Remote E-commerce Virtual Assistant Jobs Explained for the e-commerce detail.

Niche VA roles pay better but have higher barriers. Real estate VAs need to know US property CRMs and listing workflows (real estate VA jobs). Medical VAs handle patient data that falls under US privacy rules, so employers screen more carefully (medical VA roles). Bookkeeping VAs need QuickBooks or Xero. Technical VAs build automations in tools like Zapier or GoHighLevel, and a "GoHighLevel Automation & Funnel Virtual Assistant" role appeared in the worldwide listings we checked.

Which VA jobs accept applicants from Nigeria

You can apply for a VA job from Nigeria when the employer accepts Nigerian residents and the role has no location or work-authorisation requirement you can't meet. The ad's location line decides this, not the word "remote".

When you read a VA ad, it will usually fall into one of five patterns:

What the ad saysWhat it means for you
"Anywhere in the World" or "Worldwide"Usually open to Nigeria, often as a contractor
Lists countries including NigeriaOpen to you, as long as you meet the hours
"Africa", "EMEA" or "LATAM and Africa"Usually open to Nigeria, so confirm in the full ad
"US-based", "Philippines only" or a US stateNot open to you, so don't apply
"Remote" with no location givenAsk before investing time in tests

Some of the best-known VA brands are closed to Nigerian residents. Time etc, for example, says on its become a virtual assistant page that its assistants are "100% U.S. based" (checked October 2026). Its service is sold worldwide, but the assistants are not hired worldwide. Several US VA agencies work the same way, so don't let a famous name pull you into a long application you can't finish.

The agencies that do hire Nigerians are usually placement firms that match workers outside the US with US clients. Remote Rocketship's Scale Army page describes the company as a remote-first recruiting and talent placement service. It showed every listed role open to Egypt, Argentina, Ethiopia, South Africa and Nigeria, all tagged contract, including an operations assistant at $1,000 to $1,200 a month (checked 27 October 2026). Another agency, 20four7VA, describes its careers page as open to "virtual assistants and remote professionals worldwide" and recruits across admin, marketing, e-commerce, real estate and technical VA categories.

These examples were current when we checked. Eligibility changes, so always confirm on the live ad. How to Verify Whether a Remote Job Accepts Nigerian Residents walks through the checks.

Most of these roles are contractor arrangements, not employment. That affects leave, notice and tax. Our guide on contractor vs employee status when a foreign company hires you explains the difference.

Where Nigerians find remote virtual assistant jobs

Use four main channels. Most people who succeed use more than one.

  1. Remote job boards that show eligibility. Look for boards that state where applicants may live. Every listing in WorkRemote's admin and HR jobs shows the company, its website and where applicants may live, so you can filter out US-only roles before reading further.
  2. Placement agencies that hire across Africa. Agencies like the ones above screen you once, then put you forward to clients. Expect a form, a video introduction, a skills test and a client interview.
  3. Freelance marketplaces. Upwork and similar platforms work for VAs, but competition is heavy and the platforms charge fees. Our guide on receiving dollar payments in Nigeria covers how Upwork, Payoneer and the local apps pay out.
  4. Direct outreach. Pitching small-business owners, coaches and agencies directly often beats waiting for ads. How to Find International Virtual Assistant Clients covers prospecting and pitching.

Local Nigerian listings also exist, but many "remote" VA ads on Nigerian boards are hybrid roles in Lagos or are paid in naira. That can be a fine first job, just know what you're applying for.

How to find remote personal assistant jobs

Remote personal assistant jobs are usually listed as VA or EA jobs, so a search for "personal assistant" alone misses most of them. Search these terms on job boards and LinkedIn:

  • "executive assistant" with "remote" and "Africa" or "worldwide"
  • "personal virtual assistant" or "executive and personal virtual assistant"
  • "founder assistant" or "chief of staff assistant" for start-up roles
  • "EA to CEO" for senior support roles

Several of the worldwide listings we checked used titles like "Executive & Personal Virtual Assistant". PA work often involves the employer's private life, such as family calendars, bills and personal bookings, so employers lean heavily on trust signals. A clear LinkedIn profile, a reference from a previous boss and a short, well-written video introduction matter more here than in most VA roles. For PA roles, set a job alert for "executive assistant" rather than "personal assistant".

How much remote VA jobs pay Nigerians

Pay depends on the type of VA work, the client's country, your hours and your contract type (full-time or freelance). The table below shows real figures from sources we opened, with US benchmarks for context.

Source and rolePay statedRough naira value
Scale Army Operations Assistant (Africa eligible, contract)$1,000 to $1,200 a month₦1.36m to ₦1.63m
Scale Army Executive Assistant (lists Nigeria, contract)$1,300 to $1,600 a month₦1.77m to ₦2.18m
Up & Gro Executive and Admin Assistant (worldwide, aggregator listing)$5 to $8 an hour₦1.09m to ₦1.74m a month at 160 hours
US secretaries and admin assistants (BLS median, May 2025)$48,310 a yearUS benchmark only
US executive assistants (BLS median, May 2025)$76,590 a yearUS benchmark only

The job ad figures were checked on 27 October 2026 via Remote Rocketship and Remotive. The US medians come from the BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook. Naira values use ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN NFEM weighted average, 23 October 2026) and are gross, before payment fees and tax.

Read the BLS numbers as a ceiling, not a target. They describe what US-based employees earn. Nigeria-based contractors are almost always offered much less, which is why the African placement ads cluster around $1,000 to $1,600 a month for full-time work. Experience, a specialism (bookkeeping, automation, a niche CRM) and direct clients are what push you above that band.

Watch out for impossible-looking averages on aggregator sites. One page we checked claimed an average VA salary in Nigeria of $250,000 a year, which none of its own listings came close to supporting. For a fuller pay breakdown, see our virtual assistant salary guide and Virtual Assistant Jobs That Pay in Dollars.

Hours, power and internet: what VA work demands from Nigeria

Most VA clients are in the US, so you work their day. The Scale Army operations ad required 9am to 5pm US Eastern. In Lagos that is 2pm to 10pm until the US clocks change on 1 November 2026, then 3pm to 11pm through the US winter. West Coast clients are worse: their 9am is 5pm in Lagos in summer and 6pm in winter. UK clients fit Lagos hours far better, with the same time in summer and Lagos one hour ahead in winter.

That has practical consequences:

  • Power after dark. Your shift runs into the evening, so a grid outage at 8pm can't end your day. Budget for an inverter with enough battery for your laptop, router and a light, or solar, with a generator as backup.
  • Two internet connections. Use a main provider plus a MiFi or a phone hotspot on a different network. Some VAs use Starlink, which is available in Nigeria (check the current price first).
  • Phone and video quality. Appointment setting and EA work involve calls. A headset with a noise-cancelling microphone matters more than a new laptop.
  • Responsiveness rules. Many EA and PA roles expect you to reply within minutes during the client's day, so build your sleep and family schedule around the shift, not the other way round.

If night shifts won't work for you, target UK and European clients, or Australian clients whose day overlaps a Lagos early morning. Remote Virtual Assistant Jobs for Part-Time Workers covers shorter-shift options.

How to apply for VA jobs from Nigeria

The application process at VA agencies and direct employers is predictable. Prepare for each stage before you start applying in bulk.

  1. Choose one or two VA types. "General VA" competes with everyone. "Operations assistant who keeps HubSpot clean" or "e-commerce VA for Shopify stores" gets noticed.
  2. Build proof. Create two or three work samples: a cleaned-up spreadsheet, a sample inbox triage process written up in Google Docs, a week of scheduled social posts or a product listing rewrite. Label them as samples.
  3. Tailor your CV to the ad's tools. If the ad names Google Workspace, Streak or Canva, say exactly where you've used them. How to Write a Virtual Assistant CV That Gets Interviews has the layout.
  4. Record a strong video introduction. Many agencies ask for one. Keep it to about two minutes, in good light, with a clear microphone and no background noise.
  5. Expect a skills test. Common tests include prioritising a messy inbox, writing a polite email to a frustrated client, data entry with an accuracy check, or a scheduling problem across time zones.
  6. Prepare for the client interview. Expect questions about time zones, confidentiality and how you handle conflicting requests. Our virtual assistant interview questions cover the common ones.
  7. Confirm the terms in writing. Before you start, get the rate, currency, hours, payment schedule, payment platform and notice period in writing.

Example (hypothetical): Amaka has three years as an office administrator at a Lagos law firm. Instead of applying for "virtual assistant" jobs in general, she targets executive assistant roles with US legal and professional services firms. She lists Microsoft Outlook calendar management, document control and client intake on her CV, and records a video walking through how she would organise a partner's week. Her background matches what those ads ask for, so her applications get read.

VA job scams to watch for

VA work attracts scams because the roles look easy and the pay is in dollars. The common versions to watch for:

  • Paying for "training", "onboarding" or "software access" before you start
  • A "client" who sends you a cheque or money to buy equipment and forward the change
  • Interviews conducted only by text on Telegram or WhatsApp
  • Requests for your BVN, bank login or card details before a contract exists

A real employer or agency never charges you to apply. The Scale Army ad we opened said so directly. Read our guide to spotting remote job scams in Nigeria for the wider picture, and How to Avoid Scams When Applying for Virtual Assistant Jobs for VA-specific tricks.

Frequently asked questions

Can Nigerians work as virtual assistants for US companies?

Yes, when the company or agency accepts applicants living in Nigeria. Most US VA work for Nigerians is contract work through placement agencies or direct clients. Skip ads that say "US-based" or require US work authorisation, and confirm the location line on every ad.

How much does a remote virtual assistant earn in Nigeria?

In ads open to Nigeria that we checked in October 2026, full-time contract VA and assistant roles paid about $1,000 to $1,600 a month, roughly ₦1.36m to ₦2.18m at ₦1,362 to $1. Freelance and part-time work can pay far less, while specialists and VAs with direct clients can earn more. These figures are gross, before payment fees and tax.

What is the best virtual assistant job for a beginner in Nigeria?

Social media VA work, e-commerce support and appointment setting are the most realistic starting points. You can build sample work for each before anyone hires you. Executive assistant roles pay more but usually ask for two or more years of admin experience.

How do I find remote personal assistant jobs?

Search for "executive assistant", "personal virtual assistant" and "founder assistant" as well as "personal assistant", because most remote PA roles use those titles. Filter for worldwide, Africa or Nigeria eligibility, and make sure your LinkedIn and references show you can be trusted with confidential work.

Do I need a certificate to become a virtual assistant?

No, most VA ads ask for experience and tool skills, not certificates. Knowing Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, a CRM such as HubSpot, and Canva matters more. A short course can help you learn the tools, and our VA career guide lists options.

Are VA agencies like Time etc or BELAY open to Nigerians?

Time etc states that its assistants are 100% US-based, so it is not an option for Nigerian residents. Many US VA agencies work the same way. Look for placement agencies whose ads explicitly list Nigeria or Africa.

How do Nigerian virtual assistants get paid?

Usually in US dollars through the agency's payroll platform, a freelance marketplace, Payoneer or a direct bank transfer into a dollar account or app. The method affects your fees and how fast you can get the money. Our guide on getting paid in dollars in Nigeria compares the options, and tax for remote workers in Nigeria covers what you owe.

Key takeaways

  • The VA jobs most open to Nigerians are executive or personal assistant, operations, appointment-setting, e-commerce and social media roles, mostly as contractors.
  • Ads open to Nigeria that we checked in October 2026 paid around $1,000 to $1,600 a month full-time. US BLS medians are much higher but apply to US-based employees.
  • The ad's location line decides eligibility. Some well-known VA agencies hire only US-based assistants.
  • US clients mean afternoon and night shifts in Lagos, so reliable backup power and two internet connections are part of the job.
  • Remote personal assistant jobs mostly appear under executive assistant and VA titles.
  • Never pay to apply, train or start a VA job.
