Remote Jobs for People Who Prefer Non-Technical Work: Realistic Options for Nigerians
Non-technical remote jobs Nigerians can do without coding: support, VA, writing, sales, recruiting and bookkeeping, with tools, US pay benchmarks and how to apply.

Plenty of remote jobs need no coding at all. Customer support, virtual assistance, writing and editing, recruiting, sales, bookkeeping, tutoring and community management can all be done from Nigeria for companies abroad, and many of them pay in dollars or pounds.
The catch is that "non-technical" doesn't mean "no tools". A remote customer support agent works in Zendesk all day. A recruiter lives in an applicant tracking system. A virtual assistant juggles Google Workspace, Calendly and Notion. You can avoid programming completely, but you can't avoid software.
This guide sorts non-technical remote jobs by the kind of work you enjoy. It shows what US benchmarks say about pay and why Nigeria-based offers are usually lower. It explains how to tell whether an ad is really open to you, and it gives you a step-by-step route in. We'll also be honest about where these jobs get crowded and how to avoid ending up in low-paid, dead-end work.
Quick answer
Non-technical remote jobs open to Nigerians include customer support, virtual and executive assistance, content writing and editing, recruiting, sales development, bookkeeping, online tutoring and community management. None of them requires coding. All of them require you to be comfortable with workplace software, to write clear English and to have reliable power and internet. Before applying, check that the job ad accepts applicants living in Nigeria.
What "non-technical" really means in a remote job
When people say they prefer non-technical work, they usually mean one of three things:
- They don't want to write code, build systems or fix servers.
- They want work centred on people, words or organisation rather than machines.
- They're worried their computer skills are basic.
The first two are easy to satisfy remotely. The third needs some work, because every remote job runs on software. The good news is that the software in non-technical roles is the kind you learn in days or weeks, not years. You click, configure and follow a process. You don't build anything.
| Non-technical role | Tools you'll be expected to use | Coding needed? |
|---|---|---|
| Customer support agent | Zendesk, Intercom, Freshdesk, Slack | No |
| Virtual assistant | Google Workspace, Calendly, Notion, Trello | No |
| Content writer or editor | Google Docs, WordPress editor, Grammarly | No |
| Recruiter or sourcer | LinkedIn Recruiter, Greenhouse, Lever | No |
| Sales development rep | HubSpot or Salesforce, email sequencing tools | No |
| Bookkeeper | QuickBooks Online, Xero, Excel | No |
| Online tutor | Zoom, Google Meet, a tutoring platform | No |
If any of these tools are new to you, see our guide to remote jobs for beginners with basic computer skills. Most of them have free trials or free training.
Non-technical remote jobs, sorted by the kind of work you enjoy
Choosing by job title alone is how people end up hating their first remote job. A better question is what you want to spend six hours a day doing. Here are the main groups.
If you like helping people: customer support and customer success
Customer support means answering customers' questions and fixing their problems by chat, email or phone. It's the most common entry point into remote work for Nigerians, because companies hire for it in volume and train new staff. Our customer support specialist career guide covers the skills and the hiring process.
Customer success is the next step up. A customer success manager looks after a set of business clients, helps them get value from the product and keeps them from cancelling. It pays more and expects some experience. See how to become a remote customer success manager.
If you're unsure whether to pick plain customer service or a more technical support track, read remote customer service vs technical support.
If you like organising: virtual assistance, executive support and coordination
A virtual assistant manages someone's inbox, calendar, travel, documents and small projects. Executive assistants do the same for senior leaders, with more responsibility and higher pay. Project coordinators keep a team's tasks, deadlines and meetings on track.
These roles suit people who like lists, follow-ups and seeing loose ends tied up. Start with the virtual assistant career guide, and look at the executive assistant route once you have a year or two of experience. For more organising roles, see remote jobs for people with strong organisational skills.
If you like words: writing, editing, proofreading and transcription
Content writers produce blog posts, guides, newsletters and product pages. Copywriters write words that sell: ads, landing pages and emails. Editors and proofreaders polish other people's work. Transcriptionists turn audio into text.
Writing is open to people from anywhere, so the competition is global and AI tools have pushed down rates for basic content. Writers who know a subject well (finance, health, software, law) do better than generalists. Start with the remote content writer guide, or the copywriter guide if persuasion appeals to you more than explanation.
If you like talking and persuading: sales, appointment setting and recruiting
Sales development representatives (SDRs) contact potential customers, qualify them and book meetings for senior salespeople. Appointment setters do a similar job, often for coaches, agencies or property businesses. Recruiters find and screen candidates for job openings.
All three reward people who are comfortable with rejection and with targets. Pay often includes commission, so read the offer carefully (more on that below). See the sales development representative guide and the remote recruiter career guide.
If you like numbers but not code: bookkeeping and accounts support
Bookkeepers record transactions, reconcile bank accounts and prepare reports in software such as QuickBooks Online or Xero. Accounts payable and receivable specialists handle bills and invoices. This is numbers work without programming, and it fits people with an accounting background or patience for detail. Read the remote bookkeeper guide.
If you like teaching or building communities
Online English and maths tutors teach students abroad over video. Community managers run online groups for brands, moderate discussions and organise events. Both suit people who are good with others and have plenty of patience. See the online English tutor guide and the community manager guide.
Quick comparison
| Work you enjoy | Example roles | Beginner-friendly? |
|---|---|---|
| Helping people | Customer support, customer success | Support yes, success later |
| Organising | Virtual assistant, project coordinator | Yes, with tool practice |
| Words | Content writer, editor, transcriptionist | Yes, but crowded |
| Persuading | SDR, appointment setter, recruiter | Yes, if you can handle targets |
| Numbers | Bookkeeper, accounts payable | Needs basic accounting |
| Teaching and groups | Tutor, community manager | Tutoring yes |
Non-technical jobs inside tech companies often pay best
The best-paid non-technical remote roles often sit inside software companies. A software company still needs people who don't code: customer success managers, account executives, recruiters, people operations staff, community managers, content marketers and operations coordinators.
These roles tend to pay more than the same job at a small agency, because software companies sell to businesses abroad and budget for staff to match. They also expect something extra from you: an understanding of the product. You don't need to know how it's built. You do need to explain what it does, why a customer would pay for it and what goes wrong when it breaks.
Example (hypothetical): Two candidates apply for a customer success role at a project management software company. One says, "I'm good with people." The other has used the free plan for two weeks, set up a sample project, and writes in her cover letter, "Your onboarding checklist is clear, but new users can't easily find how to invite teammates. I'd raise that in the first-week call." The second candidate is still non-technical. She's just done her homework.
What non-technical remote jobs pay
Pay depends heavily on who hires you and where they are. US government data gives a useful benchmark for what these roles pay American workers. It is not what a Nigeria-based remote worker will usually be offered.
| Role (US, May 2025) | US median pay | Typical US entry education |
|---|---|---|
| Customer service representative | $44,770 a year | High school diploma |
| Secretary or administrative assistant | $48,310 a year | High school diploma |
| Executive assistant | $76,590 a year | High school diploma plus experience |
| Bookkeeping clerk | $50,670 a year | Some college |
| Writer or author | $76,910 a year | Bachelor's degree |
Sources: US Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook pages for customer service representatives, secretaries and administrative assistants, bookkeeping clerks and writers and authors. These are median annual pay figures for US workers, as of the May 2025 data published by BLS.
Two things stand out. First, most of these roles don't need a degree in the US either, which is why they're realistic routes in. Second, the gap between basic admin and executive assistance shows how much experience and responsibility matter, even in non-technical work.
Why Nigeria-based pay is usually lower
Companies hiring from Nigeria rarely pay US local salaries. Many set pay by location, hire through agencies that take a margin, or treat the role as an outsourced contract. So a US median of about $3,700 a month for customer service doesn't mean a Lagos-based agent will be offered that.
Example (hypothetical): You're offered $800 a month for a full-time chat support contract. At WorkRemote's house rate of ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN NFEM weighted average, 23 October 2026), that's about ₦1,090,000 a month before fees and tax. A $1,500 a month customer success role would be about ₦2,043,000. Use the real offer and the day's rate when you do this sum yourself.
For role-by-role figures, check our salary guides. For what decides the difference between an $800 offer and a $2,000 one, see what determines salary differences between remote workers.
Which non-technical remote jobs can Nigerians actually apply for?
Before you apply, you need to answer one question: is this ad open to people living in Nigeria? Plenty of remote jobs aren't. The location line in a job ad usually falls into one of these types:
| What the ad says | What it usually means for you |
|---|---|
| Remote, US only (or UK, Canada) | Not open unless you live there and can work there legally |
| Remote EMEA | Europe, Middle East and Africa, but often Europe in practice |
| Remote Africa or Nigeria | Open to you; check the hours |
| Remote Global or Worldwide | Usually open, but read the whole ad |
That last row needs care. As of October 2026, Kayzen, an advertising technology company, lists two sales roles as "Remote Global" on its Greenhouse jobs board. Its Senior Sales Manager ad says the job can be done remotely. It also says the company prefers candidates in Berlin, Amsterdam or London who can meet the team in person, and it asks for 4 to 10 years of business development experience in ad tech or mobile apps.
So "global" was true, but the ad came with a location preference and a senior experience bar. That's typical. Non-technical roles open worldwide tend to be either entry-level support jobs with plenty of competition or senior roles that want industry experience. Eligibility changes, so always check the live ad before applying.
For a full method, read how to verify whether a remote job accepts Nigerian residents and what "worldwide remote" means when applying from Nigeria.
The Nigerian setup non-technical remote work needs
Non-technical jobs are often more demanding on your setup than technical ones, not less. A developer who loses power for an hour can catch up later. A support agent on a live chat shift can't.
Power and internet
Plan for backup on both. That usually means an inverter or a solar setup (a generator works, but it's noisy on calls), plus two internet sources: for example, a fixed broadband line or Starlink alongside a MiFi or a phone hotspot on a different network. Customer support, tutoring and sales jobs often check your internet speed or ask about backup at interview.
Time zones and shift patterns
Nigeria is on West Africa Time (UTC+1) all year. These shifts land on your clock like this:
- UK office hours (9am to 5pm) are 10am to 6pm in Lagos in winter and 9am to 5pm in summer.
- US Eastern office hours (9am to 5pm) are 3pm to 11pm in Lagos in winter (from 1 November 2026) and 2pm to 10pm in summer.
- US Pacific office hours run into the night or early morning in Lagos, which is common for support and sales roles serving American customers.
Night shifts are a real cost to your health and family time. Factor them into whether a salary is worth it.
Getting paid and tax
Most non-technical remote workers in Nigeria are paid as contractors through a platform such as Deel or Remote, through Payoneer, or by direct transfer to a dollar account. Our guide to receiving dollar payments in Nigeria compares the options and fees. If you're not sure if you'll be an employee or a contractor, read contractor or employee when a foreign company hires you. For tax, see tax for remote workers in Nigeria.
How to get your first non-technical remote job
- Pick one group, not five. Choose from the groups above based on what you enjoy, then pick one starter role. "Customer support for software companies" is a plan. "Any remote job" isn't.
- Learn the two or three tools that role uses. Sign up for free trials of Zendesk, HubSpot, QuickBooks Online or whatever fits. Do the vendor's free training and follow a few tutorials until you can use the basics without thinking.
- Make proof of work. For support, write five sample replies to tricky customer emails. For VA work, build a sample weekly schedule and travel plan. For writing, publish three samples in a niche. For recruiting, write a sample candidate shortlist for a real public job ad. Our guide on proving your skills without work experience has more ideas.
- Write a CV that shows outcomes and tools. List the software you can use, show numbers where you have them (response times, customers handled, sales targets) and remove anything that doesn't support the role. Turn any experience from Nigerian jobs into remote-friendly evidence. See remote jobs for people with transferable skills for how to do that.
- Apply only to ads open to Nigeria. Read the location line and the hours before you write a word.
- Prepare for the assessment. Non-technical roles often include a typing test, a writing test, a mock customer chat or a sales role-play. Practise one before you need it.
- Show up well on video. Test your microphone, camera, light and backup internet before every interview.
If you don't have a degree, many of these roles still apply. Our guide to remote jobs for applicants without a university degree covers the honest limits.
Mistakes that keep people stuck in low-paid non-technical work
Avoiding every tool
Some people hear "non-technical" and decide they don't need to learn software at all. Employers notice quickly. Being the support agent who can set up a Zendesk macro, or the VA who builds a clean Notion tracker, is how you get raises. None of that is coding.
Falling for "typing jobs" and "data entry" scams
The phrase "no skills needed, earn $50 a day typing" is a common scam pitch, and so are requests to pay for "training" or a "starter kit" before you begin. WorkRemote never charges to apply for a job, and no real employer should either. Read how to spot remote job scams in Nigeria before you apply anywhere unfamiliar.
Accepting commission-only offers without doing the maths
Sales and appointment-setting ads sometimes offer "uncapped earnings" with no base pay. That can work for experienced closers, but beginners often earn little for months. Ask what share of current staff hit target, what a lead costs to generate, and whether there's a base salary.
Staying generic
General content writing, basic data entry and simple transcription are the most crowded and most exposed to AI. Moving into customer success, executive support, recruiting for a specific industry or writing about a subject you know makes you harder to replace.
Ignoring progression
Every group above has a ladder. Support leads to customer success or a team lead role. A VA can become an executive assistant or operations manager. A recruitment coordinator can become a recruiter or people operations specialist. Pick a ladder early and collect evidence for the next step.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get a remote job without any technical skills?
Yes, if you mean coding or engineering skills. You will still need to use workplace software such as Google Workspace, a help desk tool or a CRM (customer relationship management system), and to write clear English. Most of these tools can be learned in a few weeks using free vendor training.
What is the easiest non-technical remote job to get from Nigeria?
Customer support is usually the most accessible, because companies hire for it in volume and train new staff on short programmes. Virtual assistance is close behind. Both are competitive, so samples, a tool-focused CV and backup power and internet make a real difference.
Do non-technical remote jobs pay in dollars?
Many do, especially roles with companies in the US, UK and Europe, and some pay in pounds or euros. Pay for Nigeria-based workers is usually below US local salaries. US medians, such as $44,770 a year for customer service representatives (BLS, May 2025), are benchmarks rather than likely offers.
Are non-technical jobs at tech companies better paid?
Often, yes. Roles like customer success, account executive, recruiter and community manager at software companies tend to pay more than the same role at a small agency. They expect you to understand the product and its customers, but you don't have to build anything.
Is content writing still a good non-technical remote job?
Yes, but basic, general content has become crowded and lower-paid as AI tools spread. Writers with knowledge of a subject, editing skills or experience writing copy that sells do better. A small portfolio in one niche beats a large one covering everything.
Do I need a degree for non-technical remote jobs?
Often not. In the US, the typical entry education for customer service representatives and administrative assistants is a high school diploma, according to BLS. Some employers still filter by degree, and writing roles more often expect one, so check each ad.
Are "Remote Global" non-technical jobs always open to Nigerians?
Usually, but not always. Some "global" ads still prefer candidates near certain offices or ask for industry experience that's hard to get from Nigeria. Read the whole ad, including the hours and any location preference, before applying.
Key takeaways
- Non-technical remote jobs mean no coding, not no software. Expect to learn tools like Zendesk, HubSpot, QuickBooks Online or Google Workspace.

- US BLS medians for these roles run from about $44,770 to $76,910 a year (May 2025), but Nigeria-based offers are usually lower.
- Non-technical roles inside software companies, such as customer success and recruiting, often pay more and offer clearer progression.
- Always confirm that the ad accepts people living in Nigeria. "Remote Global" can still come with location preferences.
