Yes, you can do remote e-commerce marketing work from Nigeria. The employers are online stores, Amazon sellers and the agencies that serve them. You can apply when the job ad accepts people living in Nigeria, in Africa or anywhere. Most of the work falls into a few specialisms: paid ads, email and SMS, Amazon and other marketplaces, and conversion. Hiring managers care more about proof that you moved a store's numbers than about your degree.
The skill itself is not the hard part. Many ads say "remote" but only mean remote within the US or EU. The pay offered to global hires is often far below US salaries, and the e-commerce world attracts a lot of scams. This guide covers the roles, who actually hires international talent, the pay evidence we could find as of October 2026, and how to build proof with no clients. It also covers the Nigeria-specific details: time zones at Black Friday, payment rails and ad-account access.
Quick answer
Remote e-commerce marketing jobs involve selling a brand's products online through paid ads, email and SMS, marketplace listings and store optimisation. Nigerians can be hired when the ad accepts Nigeria, Africa or worldwide applicants. That usually happens through direct-to-consumer brands, e-commerce agencies, staffing firms or freelance platforms. Expect contractor arrangements. Expect pay well below US benchmarks at first. Expect to be judged on measurable results such as return on ad spend.
What e-commerce marketing work involves
E-commerce marketing means getting people to buy from an online store and then buy again. It differs from general digital marketing because every task ties directly to revenue you can see in a dashboard. A brand marketer might report on awareness. An e-commerce marketer reports on orders, revenue and cost per purchase, usually every week.
The employers fall into three groups:
- Direct-to-consumer (DTC) brands: companies selling their own products from their own website, often on Shopify, WooCommerce or Magento.
- Marketplace sellers: brands and resellers whose main channel is Amazon, Walmart Marketplace, Etsy or eBay.
- E-commerce agencies: firms that run ads, email or Amazon accounts for many stores at once. Agencies often hire globally because they need extra hands quickly.
The numbers you will be judged on
Learn these terms before your first interview. Hiring managers use them as shorthand, and a candidate who mixes them up rarely gets past the first call.
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| ROAS | Return on ad spend: revenue divided by ad cost |
| ACoS | Amazon's advertising cost of sale: ad spend divided by ad revenue |
| TACoS | Ad spend divided by total revenue, including organic sales |
| CVR | Conversion rate: share of visitors who buy |
| AOV | Average order value |
| LTV | Lifetime value of a customer over all their orders |
| Flows | Automated emails, such as abandoned cart or welcome series |
Example (hypothetical): a skincare store spends $2,000 on Meta ads in a month and records $7,000 in sales from them. Its ROAS is 3.5. If the store's margin can't cover that spend, a 3.5 ROAS can still lose money. Explaining that trade-off in an interview shows you think like an owner.
The main remote e-commerce marketing roles
Most vacancies use one of the job titles below. Smaller brands often merge two or three of them into one "e-commerce marketing manager" or "growth marketer" role.
| Role | What you do | Common tools |
|---|---|---|
| Paid social media buyer | Runs and tests Meta and TikTok ad campaigns | Meta Ads Manager, TikTok Ads |
| Google Shopping / PPC specialist | Runs search and shopping ads | Google Ads, Merchant Center |
| Amazon PPC specialist | Manages sponsored ads and bids on Amazon | Amazon Ads console, Helium 10 |
| Email and SMS marketer | Builds flows, campaigns and segments | Klaviyo, Postscript, Omnisend |
| Marketplace / listing manager | Optimises product listings, images and keywords | Seller Central, Jungle Scout |
| CRO specialist | Tests pages to lift conversion rate | GA4, Hotjar, A/B testing apps |
| E-commerce marketing manager | Owns the channel mix and the revenue target | All of the above plus Shopify |
Some of these roles give Nigerians a more realistic way in than others:
- Email and SMS is the most common entry point for career changers. You can show the work with screenshots and flow diagrams, and results are easy to measure. Our email marketing specialist career guide covers the full skill path.
- Amazon PPC is a niche with many global placement firms, because US sellers outsource it heavily. It is data-heavy and repetitive work, which suits people who enjoy spreadsheets.
- Paid social and Google Shopping pay well once you have results, but brands hesitate to hand their ad budgets to someone without a track record. See the PPC specialist career guide for skills and tools. Role-specific articles on Google Ads specialist jobs and Meta Ads specialist jobs publish with this series.
- Amazon and e-commerce virtual assistant roles focus on admin work: order handling, customer messages and listing uploads. They are a sensible first step but a different job. Our planned guide to Amazon virtual assistant jobs covers them.

Who hires global talent for e-commerce marketing
"Global talent" in a job ad usually means the company hires through one of four routes. Each route comes with a different contract, different pay and different risks.
| Hirer type | Typical arrangement | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| DTC brand (direct) | Contractor or EOR employee | Often restricted to US or EU |
| E-commerce agency | Contractor, full- or part-time | Many clients, tight deadlines |
| Staffing / placement firm | Contractor placed with a client | Firm takes a margin; pay is set |
| Freelance platform | Project or hourly contract | Platform fees, competition |
Direct brands
Brands that hire directly sometimes publish salary bands and offer benefits, but many restrict hiring to the countries where they have legal entities. When a brand hires you in Nigeria, it will usually engage you as an independent contractor or through an employer of record (EOR). Our guide to contractor versus EOR employee arrangements explains what each means for leave, tax and termination.
Agencies and placement firms
Agencies and staffing firms are the most likely to hire people outside the US, because their business model depends on cost and flexibility. One example: as of October 2026, EverestX's Amazon PPC specialist page says it places specialists with clients in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia "regardless of where you live". Its country guides name only Pakistan, India, the Philippines and Malaysia, so confirm that Nigeria is accepted before you spend time on the application.
Aggregators and eligibility labels
Aggregator boards collect ads from many companies and tag them by location. As of October 2026, Jobgether's remote email marketing jobs in Nigeria page showed listings tagged "Remote from Africa" and "Anywhere". These included e-commerce titles such as a Klaviyo specialist role at Foxelli Group and an "Email & SMS Campaign Specialist (Klaviyo | Shopify | Remote)". The same page also shows why you can't rely on tags alone: one Foxelli listing was titled "100% Remote EU" but tagged "Remote from Africa". When the title and the tag disagree, read the original ad on the company's own page.
What the location wording means
- Worldwide or anywhere: open to Nigeria unless the ad says otherwise. Our planned explainer on what worldwide remote means for Nigerian applicants covers the exceptions.
- EMEA or Africa: usually open to Nigeria, but some employers exclude specific countries for payroll or sanctions reasons.
- US-only, EU-only or a named state: not open to you, however good your skills are. The usual reason is tax or employment law, not prejudice.
- Remote, with no location: check the application form. A country drop-down or a "Do you have the right to work in..." question settles it.
Our planned guide on how to verify whether a remote job accepts Nigerian residents walks through these checks.
How much remote e-commerce marketing jobs pay
There is no reliable published average for e-commerce marketers based in Nigeria. What exists are US benchmarks, advertised ranges from firms that hire globally and aggregator estimates. The table shows what we found, and the paragraphs after it explain the limits of each source.
| Source (checked October 2026) | Figure | Who it applies to |
|---|---|---|
| US BLS, marketing managers | $166,790 a year median (May 2025) | US-based employees |
| US BLS, advertising and promotions managers | $133,660 a year median (May 2025) | US-based employees |
| EverestX, Amazon PPC (full-time) | $600 to $1,200 a month | Global placements |
| EverestX, Amazon PPC (part-time) | $300 to $600 a month | Global placements |
| Jobgether, email marketing specialist | $48,000 to $115,000 a year | Aggregator estimate, mixed locations |
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics figures are medians for US-based managers. Most of them have years of experience and a bachelor's degree. Treat them as the ceiling of the market, not an offer you should expect from Nigeria. Jobgether doesn't explain how it calculates its range, and the range includes US roles, so use it only as a rough upper reference.
The EverestX range is closer to what a Nigeria-based specialist will see from a placement firm. At the WorkRemote house rate of ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN NFEM weighted average, 23 October 2026), $600 a month is about ₦817,000 and $1,200 a month is about ₦1,634,000. These are gross figures before any transfer fees and tax.
Why pay for global hires sits below US pay
Remote pay for Nigeria-based workers is usually lower than US local pay. Placement firms and agencies add their own margin. Many employers price roles by location. Contractors also carry their own costs: power, internet, equipment and payment fees. Pay rises fastest when you can show revenue results and move from a placement firm to a direct contract with a brand. For the PPC side, see the PPC specialist salary guide.
Skills and certifications that help
E-commerce employers rarely ask for a degree for specialist roles. They ask whether you have run campaigns or flows, on what budget and with what result. Certifications won't replace results. Free ones from the platforms themselves still show that you know the tool and that you finish what you start.
- Amazon Ads Academy: Amazon's learning console says it is free to create an account and offers free courses and certifications earned by passing assessments (as of October 2026). Start with the sponsored ads material if you are aiming at Amazon PPC.
- Klaviyo Product Certification: the Klaviyo Academy certification path has nine courses, about 4.4 hours of listed content, and a final exam (as of October 2026). It covers sign-up forms, segments, campaigns, automated flows and performance analytics. The page we checked showed no price, so confirm the cost when you enrol.
- Shopify admin skills: you don't need to be a developer, but you should be able to edit a product page, set up a discount and read the sales reports. If you're more drawn to building stores, compare the Shopify developer career guide.
- Analytics: GA4 and spreadsheets. Most e-commerce reporting comes down to pivot tables and a weekly email summarising what changed and why.
Our planned article on digital marketing certifications for remote jobs covers which marketing certificates employers value more broadly.
How to build proof when you have no e-commerce clients
The biggest barrier for beginners is the "show me results" question. These approaches give you something honest to show without inventing client work.
- Audit real stores. Pick three small Shopify brands and write a one-page audit of each: weak product pages, missing email capture, slow mobile load, no abandoned cart flow. Send the audit to the brand as an introduction, not as an invoice.
- Build flows in a free account. Set up a sample welcome series and abandoned cart flow in an email tool's free tier, with your own copy and design. Screenshot the logic and explain your choices.
- Run a tiny test store or product. Example (hypothetical): you list a locally made product, spend a small budget on ads over two weeks and document the cost per click, conversion rate and what you would change. Small numbers are fine. Employers care about honest analysis.
- Help a Nigerian online seller. Many Instagram and WhatsApp-based shops have no email list or tracking. Setting these up, with permission to share anonymised results, gives you a real case study.
- Write each project up as a case study. Problem, what you did, the numbers, what you learned. Keep each to one page.

How to apply for remote e-commerce marketing jobs from Nigeria
- Choose one specialism first. "Klaviyo email marketer for Shopify brands" gets more replies than "digital marketer".
- Search the right places. Use remote boards that filter by location, agency careers pages, and LinkedIn searches for "ecommerce" plus "remote" plus "Africa" or "worldwide". You can also check the business and marketing listings on WorkRemote, where each listing shows where applicants may live.
- Check eligibility before writing anything. Read the location line, the application form and the contract type.
- Lead with numbers on your CV. "Built a five-email welcome flow; test list open rate 48%" beats "responsible for email marketing". Only quote figures you can back up.
- Prepare for a practical test. E-commerce employers often send a short audit, a sample flow or an ad account review. Treat it like the job itself and keep it within the time they suggest.
- Ask about access and budget in the interview. Which ad accounts, which store platform, what monthly spend, who approves changes. The answers tell you how much responsibility you will actually have.
Nigeria-specific realities
Time zones and peak season
Most e-commerce clients are in the US, UK, EU or Australia, and their stores never close. US Eastern time is 6 hours behind Lagos in winter (from 1 November 2026) and 5 hours behind in summer. A US brand's 9am stand-up is 3pm in Lagos in winter. London is 1 hour behind Lagos in winter and on the same time in summer.
The busiest stretch of the year is Black Friday to Cyber Monday. In 2026 that runs from Friday 27 November to Monday 30 November. US sales launched at midnight Eastern go live at 6am in Lagos. Campaign fixes are often needed late in the US evening, which is after midnight for you. Ask early how the brand covers that weekend, and plan your backup power around it.
Ad accounts and spending
You should work inside the client's own ad accounts, Shopify admin and email platform, with access granted to your login. A legitimate employer funds the ad budget with its own card. You should not need a dollar card to buy ads for a client, and you should never be asked to front ad spend from your own money.
Getting paid
Most global e-commerce roles pay contractors in dollars by bank transfer, Wise or Payoneer, or through Deel or Remote. EverestX, for example, says it pays monthly via Wise, Payoneer or direct USD transfer (as of October 2026). Compare fees and withdrawal options in our guide to receiving dollar payments in Nigeria. Foreign income still has Nigerian tax obligations; see tax for remote workers in Nigeria.
Power and internet
Ad dashboards and Shopify admin are browser-based and fairly light. A dropped connection during a campaign launch can still cost a client money. Keep an inverter or solar backup and two internet routes: two ISPs, or a MiFi plus a phone hotspot. Starlink is available in Nigeria if your area has poor coverage; check the current price before committing.
Scams aimed at would-be e-commerce marketers
E-commerce attracts its own types of fake job. Walk away from any of these:
- "Boost product ratings" or "click to rate products" tasks that pay small amounts at first, then ask for a deposit before you can get bigger tasks.
- "Fund the ad account first" offers, where you pay for ads or a "starter budget" and are promised a refund with your salary.
- "Buy the product to review it" schemes where you pay and claim a refund that never arrives.
- Training-fee jobs: a paid course or "certification" you must buy before starting. Real employers don't charge you to work. The platform certifications listed above are run by the platforms themselves.
- Interviews held only on Telegram or WhatsApp with no company email, website or contract.

Frequently asked questions
Can Nigerians get remote e-commerce marketing jobs?
Yes, when the employer accepts applicants based in Nigeria, Africa or worldwide. Agencies, placement firms and freelance platforms are the most common routes. Many direct brands limit hiring to the US or EU, so check the location line and application form before applying.
Which e-commerce marketing role is easiest to start in?
Email and SMS marketing is usually the most accessible. You can build sample flows in a free account, the results are easy to show, and tools like Klaviyo offer structured training. Amazon PPC is another common entry point, through placement firms, if you enjoy data work.
How much do remote Amazon PPC specialists earn from Nigeria?
One global placement firm, EverestX, advertised $600 to $1,200 a month for full-time Amazon PPC placements as of October 2026. That is about ₦817,000 to ₦1,634,000 at ₦1,362 to $1. It is an advertised range from one firm, not a market average. Pay rises with proven results and direct client contracts.
Do I need a degree for remote e-commerce marketing jobs?
Usually not for specialist roles such as email, PPC or marketplace management. Employers want evidence of results. According to the BLS, senior marketing manager roles in the US typically expect a bachelor's degree.
Is the Klaviyo certification free?
The Klaviyo Academy certification page showed no price when we checked in October 2026. It consists of nine courses and a final exam. Confirm the cost on the Klaviyo Academy site when you sign up.
Will I need my own dollar card to run ads for a client?
No. A legitimate client gives you access to its own ad accounts and pays for the ad spend. If anyone asks you to fund ads, buy products or pay a deposit to start, treat it as a scam.
Are e-commerce marketing jobs full-time or freelance?
Both exist. Agencies and placement firms often offer full-time or part-time contractor roles. Freelance platforms offer project work. Full-time employee status through an employer of record is less common for Nigeria-based hires, but some direct brands offer it.
