Remote Amazon virtual assistant jobs are real, and some are open to people in Nigeria. You won't be working for Amazon itself, though. An "Amazon VA" works for independent sellers and brands that sell on Amazon. The work covers their listings, stock, ads, account health and customer messages inside Amazon Seller Central. Most of these jobs are contractor roles with US, UK, Canadian or Australian sellers or the agencies that serve them, and they pay in dollars.
The catch is that sellers want you to know Seller Central before they hire you, and they're nervous about handing account access to a stranger. This guide explains what the job involves, using duties from live ads we opened in October 2026. It covers the skills and tools that come up again and again, how to build proof of those skills from Nigeria for free or cheaply, where to find openings, and the scams that use Amazon's name.
Quick answer
An Amazon virtual assistant manages back-office work for third-party Amazon sellers: listings, shipment plans, inventory, PPC ads, Seller Central cases and reports. Nigerians can do this work remotely, usually as contractors. Clients mostly want Seller Central experience, strong written English, spreadsheet skills and familiarity with tools like Helium 10. Always check each ad's location rules, and never pay to get an "Amazon" job.
What an Amazon virtual assistant actually does
The name confuses people, so start here. Amazon runs a marketplace where independent businesses ("third-party sellers") list and sell their products. Those sellers run their businesses through a dashboard called Amazon Seller Central. A busy seller can't do everything in it themselves, so they hire help. That help is the Amazon VA.
Your client is the seller or an agency managing several sellers. Amazon is the platform you work inside, not your employer. If a message says Amazon itself wants to hire you as a "home-based VA" through WhatsApp, treat it as a likely scam (more on that below).
Duties taken from live ads (checked October 2026)
We opened two live Amazon VA ads on 27 October 2026 to see what clients ask for, rather than relying on generic lists.
A full-time Amazon E-commerce Assistant role at Catch Creation, LLC, posted on Greenhouse, lists these duties:
- creating Amazon shipment plans
- running Deals and Coupons
- forecasting inventory
- managing Amazon Creator Connections
- helping with PPC campaigns
- resolving account health issues
- creating and optimising listings
- opening and tracking Seller Central cases
- A/B testing listings
- doing flat-file and bulk listing uploads
The ad says the role is remote but doesn't state which countries are eligible, and pay is "competitive, based on experience".
A part-time Amazon & Dropshipping Virtual Assistant contractor role (CPT-11350) from the staffing firm 20four7VA, listed on EU Remote Jobs as worldwide, involves:
- product research and supplier vetting
- calculating margins
- writing listing titles, bullet points and backend search terms
- processing orders
- handling returns
- watching account health
- basic PPC tracking
- weekly reporting
It's 10 hours a week, Monday to Friday, with working hours to be agreed in US Eastern time. Pay is weekly at "competitive rates" (no figure given), and the ad asks for near-native English.
Both ads may close at any time, and eligibility can change. Read the live ad before you apply.
Amazon VA specialisations
Most ads mix several of these, but clients who pay more usually want depth in one or two.
| Specialisation | Typical work | Entry difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Listing and catalogue | Titles, bullets, keywords, flat files, images briefs | Moderate |
| Inventory and FBA operations | Shipment plans, restock forecasts, inbound problems | Moderate |
| Account health and cases | Policy warnings, suppressed listings, support cases | Harder |
| PPC (Amazon Ads) | Sponsored Products campaigns, bids, search-term reports | Harder |
| Product research and sourcing | Finding products, vetting suppliers, margins | Moderate |
| Buyer messages and reviews | Replying to customers, returns, feedback requests | Easier |
The "easier" end is a reasonable first step if you already do customer service. PPC and account health take longer to learn, but a mistake there costs the seller real money, which is why clients pay more for those skills.
Skills clients ask for
The skills below come up in both ads we opened, and in the Seller Central knowledge that every one of those duties depends on.
Seller Central knowledge
Both ads ask for Seller Central experience. Catch Creation says it is open to people "willing to learn new platforms and tools", but you still need to know the basics before you apply:
- How listings work: a single product page (ASIN) that several sellers can sell on, parent and child variations, and backend search terms.
- FBA (Fulfilment by Amazon): the seller sends stock to Amazon's warehouses and Amazon ships the orders. FBM means the seller ships the orders themselves.
- Shipment plans and how to read inventory and restock reports.
- The Account Health dashboard and what a policy warning means.
- How to open a case with Seller Support and write it clearly.
Fee and margin literacy
The 20four7VA ad asks VAs to calculate margins, and sellers value a VA who can spot an unprofitable product. Amazon publishes its fees on its pricing page. As of October 2026 on Amazon.com, the Individual plan charges $0.99 per item sold, and the Professional plan costs $39.99 a month plus selling fees. Referral fees are the greater of a category percentage or a minimum, for example 15% with a $0.30 minimum in Home and Kitchen and 8% in Computers. Fulfilment fees for FBA depend on size and weight, and Amazon points sellers to its Revenue Calculator for those.
Example (hypothetical): a kitchen gadget sells for $25.00 on Amazon.com. The Home and Kitchen referral fee at 15% is $3.75. Suppose the FBA fee (from the Revenue Calculator) is $6.00, the landed cost of the product is $7.00 and ad spend works out at $3.00 per unit sold. The seller keeps $25.00 − $3.75 − $6.00 − $7.00 − $3.00 = $5.25 per unit before the monthly plan fee and returns. Every figure other than the referral fee is invented for this exercise. A VA who can build this sheet in Google Sheets for every product is more useful than one who only uploads listings.
Writing that sells, in US or UK English
Listing work is copywriting with rules. You write keyword-rich titles that still read naturally, bullet points that answer buyer objections, and descriptions that stay within Amazon's style guidelines for that category. The 20four7VA ad asks for near-native English. Write in the client's market spelling: "color" for Amazon.com and "colour" for Amazon.co.uk.
Spreadsheets and data
Flat files are big spreadsheet templates used to create or edit many listings at once. They appear in the Catch Creation ad. You'll also read search-term reports, inventory exports and business reports. You need to be comfortable with Excel or Google Sheets: VLOOKUP or XLOOKUP, filters, pivot tables and basic charts.
Working from SOPs and reporting
Catch Creation asks for the "ability to follow SOPs". 20four7VA wants weekly reports. A standard operating procedure (SOP) is the client's written checklist for a task. Sellers hire VAs so they don't have to explain everything twice. A short end-of-day update in Slack or email (what you did, what's blocked, what needs a decision) builds trust faster than anything else.
Tools Amazon VAs use
| Tool | What it's for | Cost to you |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Seller Central | Everything: listings, stock, cases, reports | Client's account |
| Helium 10 | Keyword research, listing analysis, product research | Client usually pays; free plan has limits |
| Jungle Scout, Keepa | Product research, price and sales-rank history | Usually client-paid |
| Google Sheets or Excel | Flat files, forecasts, margin sheets | Free (Sheets) |
| Amazon Ads console | Sponsored Products and Brands campaigns | Client's account |
| Slack, email, Loom | Updates and handovers | Free tiers |
Helium 10 is named in both ads. As of October 2026, its pricing page lists Platinum at $129 a month billed monthly ($99 a month billed yearly) and Diamond at $359 a month ($279 billed yearly), plus a free plan with limited Chrome extension access. That's too expensive for most beginners in Nigeria to pay out of pocket. Learn on the free plan and the client's account, and don't buy a subscription just to apply. For a wider comparison of task and project tools, see the tools for managing VA work.
Can someone in Nigeria get Amazon VA work?
Yes, when the client or agency accepts contractors from Nigeria. The 20four7VA ad above is listed as worldwide. Plenty of other Amazon VA ads are restricted to the US, the Philippines or Latin America, and the third-party listings we found in research often had no location stated at all. Treat "remote" on its own as unknown and check the ad or ask before you put in hours.
How these jobs are usually structured
- Freelance contracts on marketplaces like Upwork, paid hourly or by project. Upwork charges freelancers a variable service fee of 0% to 15% on earnings, including bonuses, according to its fee calculator page (as of October 2026).
- Staffing agencies like 20four7VA that place contractors with sellers. You're a contractor, not an employee of the agency or the seller, as that ad states.
- Direct contracts with a brand or Amazon agency, sometimes full time.
Nearly all of these are contractor arrangements: no paid leave, no pension and you handle your own tax. Contractor versus employee status explains what that means for you, and our tax guide for remote workers covers the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 side.
Time zones
Most Amazon sellers who hire VAs are in the US, and Amazon.com is their main marketplace. That shapes your hours.
| Client location | Their 9am to 5pm in Lagos time |
|---|---|
| US Eastern (winter, from 1 November 2026) | 3pm to 11pm |
| US Eastern (summer) | 2pm to 10pm |
| US Pacific (winter) | 6pm to 2am |
| UK (winter, GMT) | 10am to 6pm |
| UK (summer, BST) | 9am to 5pm |
Lagos stays on WAT (UTC+1) all year, so these shifts change when the client's clocks change. Much Amazon VA work doesn't need live overlap, because shipment plans, listing edits and reports can be done in your morning. Agree a short overlap window, perhaps 3pm to 6pm Lagos time for an East Coast client, and keep it.
Seller Central access and account safety
A seller's Amazon account is their whole business, so expect caution. Good practice protects both of you:
- Ask the client to add you as a user with your own login and only the permissions your tasks need, rather than sending you their password.
- Use one dedicated laptop and browser profile for client work, with two-factor authentication turned on.
- Don't use a VPN or log in from other people's devices unless the client asks you to. Unusual access patterns worry sellers.
- Never copy a client's sales data into your public portfolio.
Power and internet
Seller Central, Helium 10's browser extension and big flat files all need a stable connection. Plan for an inverter or solar backup for your laptop and router, and a second connection (a MiFi plus your phone hotspot on a different network) so a cable cut doesn't make you miss a client's overlap window.
Getting paid
Clients pay in dollars through Upwork, Payoneer, Wise, Deel or bank transfer, depending on the setup. Our guide to receiving dollar payments in Nigeria compares Grey, Raenest, Cleva, Payoneer and the rest, including their fees.
How much Amazon VAs earn
We couldn't find a reliable, published source for Amazon VA pay for Nigeria-based contractors. Neither ad we opened stated a figure. Rates you see in individual ads vary widely, and remote pay for Nigeria-based workers is usually below what the same job pays someone living in the US. What moves your rate:
- Specialisation. PPC and account health work usually pays more than general listing or data work.
- Proof. Before-and-after listings, a campaign you improved, a forecast sheet.
- Hours and commitment. Part-time contracts like the 10-hour 20four7VA role are common. Full-time roles are fewer.
- Platform cut. Upwork's 0% to 15% service fee comes off your gross.
Example (hypothetical): if a client paid $8 an hour for 20 hours a week, that's about $693 a month (20 × 4.33 weeks × $8). At ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN NFEM weighted average, 23 October 2026), that's roughly ₦944,000 before fees. After a 10% Upwork fee, it's about $624, or roughly ₦850,000, before withdrawal costs and tax. The $8 rate is an assumption for the arithmetic, not a market figure.

How to become an Amazon VA from Nigeria: a practical plan
This route assumes you can already use a computer well and write clean English. If you're new to VA work generally, start with our virtual assistant career guide.
- Learn the platform from Amazon itself. Amazon's seller learning pages cover how to list, price, fulfil and advertise. For ads, the Amazon Ads Academy is free to join and offers self-paced courses and certifications you earn by passing an assessment (as of October 2026). A Sponsored Ads certification is a credible line on your CV for PPC work.
- Pick a lane. Choose listings, inventory/FBA operations or PPC as your main skill, and learn the others well enough to help.
- Build three proof pieces without a client.
- A rewritten listing for a real product: original title and bullets alongside your version, with your keyword reasoning (use Helium 10's free plan).
- A Google Sheets margin calculator using Amazon's published referral fees, like the example above.
- A 90-day restock forecast sheet with made-up sales data, clearly labelled as sample data.
- Record a two-minute Loom walkthrough of one piece. Clients hiring remote help like hearing you explain your thinking.
- Write a CV and profile in the client's language. Use "Seller Central", "FBA shipment plans", "flat files", "Sponsored Products" and "account health" if you can genuinely back them up. Don't claim Seller Central experience you don't have, because a short trial task will expose it quickly.
- Apply where the ad states your location is eligible, and offer a small paid trial task.
- Do the first contract exceptionally well and ask for a written testimonial you can quote.
For more on proof pieces, see building a virtual assistant portfolio.
Example (hypothetical) application opener: "I manage listings and FBA shipment plans in Seller Central and build margin sheets using Amazon's current referral fees. Attached is a rewrite of one of your bestsellers' bullet points with the keywords I'd target, plus a two-minute video explaining why. I'm in Lagos and can overlap 3pm to 6pm with US Eastern time every weekday."
Where to find remote Amazon VA jobs
- WorkRemote job listings. Search "Amazon" or "ecommerce" on WorkRemote's remote job board. Each listing shows the company, its website and where applicants may live. WorkRemote reviews listings and aims to publish genuine remote roles open to applicants from Nigeria, but can't check every detail, and employers decide who they hire.
- Applicant tracking systems. Search Greenhouse, Lever and Workable boards for "Amazon e-commerce assistant", "Amazon PPC" or "Seller Central". The Catch Creation ad above came from Greenhouse.
- Freelance marketplaces. Upwork has many Amazon VA contracts. Filter for worldwide eligibility and read client history before you send a proposal.
- VA staffing agencies that state worldwide hiring, such as the 20four7VA ad above (as of October 2026). Read the contract terms carefully.
- Amazon seller communities and LinkedIn. Sellers and agency owners post openings in seller groups. A visible profile that says "Amazon Seller Central VA, Nigeria, US-hours overlap" gets found.

Scams and mistakes to avoid
Amazon's name is popular with scammers. Watch for these:
- "Amazon is hiring work-from-home assistants" messages on WhatsApp or Telegram that lead to "task" or "order boosting" schemes where you deposit money before you can withdraw your earnings. Real Amazon jobs are posted on Amazon's own careers site, and real seller clients don't ask you to fund orders.
- Paid "Amazon VA certificate plus guaranteed client" packages. Amazon's own seller and ads training is free. No course can guarantee you a client.
- Clients who ask you to open a seller account in your name or use your BVN, NIN or bank details for their business. Don't.
- Fake review work. Writing or buying reviews breaks Amazon's rules and can get the client's account suspended. Turn it down.
Common mistakes that cost Nigerian applicants contracts:
- Saying "I'm an expert" with no sample to back it up.
- Applying to US-only or Philippines-only ads anyway.
- Missing the agreed overlap window during a power cut because there's no backup.
- Changing live listings without the client's approval.

Frequently asked questions
Do Amazon virtual assistants work for Amazon?
No. Amazon VAs work for independent sellers, brands or agencies that sell on Amazon's marketplace. Amazon's own jobs are advertised on its official careers site, and each listing there states its location.
Can I become an Amazon VA in Nigeria without experience?
Yes, but you need proof of skill before clients trust you with their account. Learn from Amazon's free seller and Amazon Ads Academy training, build sample listings and spreadsheets, and start with smaller, lower-risk tasks such as buyer messages or listing edits.
Do I need my own Amazon seller account to practise?
No. You can learn from Amazon's training, the Helium 10 free plan and public product pages. Opening a seller account just to practise means paying fees and handling account verification you don't need.
What is the most valuable Amazon VA skill to learn?
PPC (Amazon Ads) and account health management usually command more than general admin, because mistakes in either cost sellers money. Listing optimisation is the easiest high-value skill to demonstrate with samples.
Is an Amazon Ads certification worth it?
It's worth getting because it's free and shows you've done structured learning. As of October 2026, the Amazon Ads Academy offers self-paced courses and certifications earned by passing an assessment. On its own it won't get you hired, so pair it with a sample campaign plan.
What hours will I work for a US Amazon seller?
Usually afternoon and evening in Nigeria. From 1 November 2026, 9am to 5pm US Eastern is 3pm to 11pm in Lagos. In US summer it's 2pm to 10pm. Many tasks can be done outside overlap hours if you agree a regular check-in window.
How do Amazon VAs in Nigeria get paid?
Usually in dollars through Upwork, Payoneer, Wise, Deel or direct transfer to a dollar account, depending on the client. Compare withdrawal fees and naira conversion costs before choosing a method.
Key takeaways
- An Amazon VA works for third-party sellers inside Seller Central, not for Amazon.
- Live ads (October 2026) ask for shipment plans, listings, flat files, PPC, account health and case handling, plus Helium 10 familiarity.
- Some Amazon VA ads are open worldwide and many are not. Check each ad's location before applying.
- Amazon's seller learning pages and the Amazon Ads Academy are the cheapest place to learn. Build proof pieces before you apply.
- Most roles are contractor work in US hours. Plan power and internet backup, and price in platform fees.
