Authentic small youthful marketing agency

To get a remote Meta Ads specialist job, you need proof that you can run Facebook and Instagram campaigns that bring in leads or sales at a cost a business can live with. You also need to apply to roles that accept people living in Nigeria. A certificate helps a little. Real campaign results, clean tracking and a short screen-recorded walkthrough of your work help far more.

The work is real and some of it is open to Nigerians. As of October 2026, we found agency ads open to candidates in Africa, including one that names Nigeria, paying roughly $2,000 to $3,000 a month. We also found plenty of "remote" Meta Ads roles limited to the US or South Africa. This guide covers what employers ask for, how to build evidence when nobody has trusted you with a budget yet, the certification question, pay, time zones, the application process and the scams aimed at media buyers.

Quick answer

A remote Meta Ads specialist plans, launches and optimises paid campaigns in Meta Ads Manager for Facebook and Instagram. From Nigeria, the realistic routes are full-time contracts with performance agencies serving US, UK or European clients, and freelance work for small brands. Employers want hands-on campaign results, Meta Pixel and Conversions API tracking, creative testing and clear reporting. Confirm on each ad that Nigeria, Africa or worldwide applicants are accepted.

What a remote Meta Ads specialist actually does

Job titles vary: Meta Ads specialist, Facebook Ads specialist, paid social specialist, media buyer, and sometimes "performance marketer". The day-to-day work is broadly the same, and it's narrower and more numbers-driven than social media management.

Live ads we opened in October 2026 list these duties:

  • Building and managing campaigns in Meta Ads Manager around a goal such as leads, sales or app installs.
  • Setting up and checking conversion tracking with the Meta Pixel and the Conversions API (the server-side connection that sends conversion events to Meta).
  • Running A/B tests on audiences, placements and, above all, creatives (hooks, images, videos, copy).
  • Managing daily budgets and deciding when to scale or kill an ad set.
  • Tracking cost per lead (CPL), cost per acquisition (CPA), click-through rate (CTR) and return on ad spend (ROAS).
  • Reporting results to the client or manager, often on a weekly or fortnightly call.

The Paid Ads Specialist ad from Athena Institute of Business and Technology on Jobnow.ng (remote, Nigeria, posted 21 October 2026) lists almost exactly this, including GA4, Google Tag Manager, Meta Pixel and Conversions API. Its deadline was 27 October 2026, so treat it as an example of the requirements, not a live opening.

How it differs from a social media manager or a general PPC role

A social media manager mostly handles organic posting and community engagement. A Meta Ads specialist is judged on paid results: what each lead or sale cost. If you've been posting for brands and want to move into paid, your gap is usually tracking and budget decisions, not content.

A general PPC (pay-per-click) specialist often works mainly on Google Search. Many agencies want both, and plenty of ads say "Google + Meta". Our PPC specialist career guide covers the wider paid media path. For the Google side, see how to get a remote Google Ads specialist job.

Who hires Meta Ads specialists remotely from Nigeria

Three kinds of employer show up again and again.

Performance and growth agencies serving US clients. These are the most common source of Africa-eligible Meta Ads roles. They run accounts for many small and mid-sized businesses, often in lead generation (home services, financial services, coaching) or e-commerce. You usually join as a full-time contractor.

Talent and staffing platforms. These companies place remote workers with client firms. Read their ads carefully, because each one is often tied to a single country.

Direct brands and Nigerian companies. Some Nigerian firms hire remote paid ads staff in naira. Foreign e-commerce brands also hire freelancers through platforms and direct outreach.

Examples from live ads (checked October 2026)

These aren't endorsements, and eligibility changes. Open the current ad before applying.

Role and employerWho can applyWhat it tells you
Media Buyer & Creative Strategist, Scale ArmyLATAM, Africa, Eastern EuropeAfrica-eligible, but US Pacific hours
Media Buyer roles, Scale Army (via Remote Rocketship)Nigeria named among five countriesPay shown: $2,300 to $2,900 a month
Senior Meta Ads Specialist, HuzzleSouth Africa onlyRemote doesn't mean open to Nigeria
Paid Ads Specialist, Athena InstituteNigeria (remote)Local role needing 2 to 4 years' experience

The Scale Army Media Buyer & Creative Strategist ad says it's "open to candidates based in LATAM, Africa, and Eastern Europe". It also says that because the role supports US-based clients, you must work 9am to 5pm PST. The same ad asks you to record a video showing your skills as part of the application.

The Huzzle Senior Meta Ads Specialist ad (posted 14 March 2026) is listed as remote but only in South Africa. It mentions UK, US, Canadian, European and Australian clients, which describes where the clients are, not who can apply. It also lists the role as full-time while describing an independent contractor engagement, which is common, so read the contract terms.

What employers expect: the Meta Ads skill stack

Across the ads we opened, the requirements fall into five groups. Use them as a checklist against your own experience.

Skill areaWhat "good enough" looks like
Campaign structureYou can explain why you chose an objective, budget setup and audience strategy
TrackingYou can install the Pixel, confirm events in Events Manager and explain the Conversions API
Creative testingYou test hooks and formats on purpose and can show what won
AnalysisYou read CPL, CPA, CTR and ROAS and know which one matters for this client
CommunicationYou write clear reports and explain bad weeks without excuses

Experience levels in the ads

The experience bar is real. Huzzle's senior role wants four or more years managing Meta Ads. The Athena role wants two to four years with both Google and Meta. Scale Army's Media Buyer & Creative Strategist ad gives no minimum years but asks for "proven hands-on experience independently managing and optimizing Meta Ads and Google Ads campaigns", which in practice means you can show past accounts.

Truly entry-level remote Meta Ads jobs paid in dollars are rare. Most beginners get in through a junior agency role, an assistant job on a paid media team, or small freelance clients, and move up from there. If you have no marketing experience at all, start with entry-level remote marketing jobs.

Tools that come up besides Ads Manager

  • Meta Events Manager, Meta Ad Library (for researching competitors' ads) and Meta Business Suite.
  • Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager.
  • A CRM. Huzzle's ad mentions GoHighLevel (GHL) integrations, which are common in US lead-generation agencies.
  • Google Sheets or Excel for reporting, and Looker Studio if you build dashboards.
  • Basic creative tools such as Canva or CapCut. Scale Army lists the ability to edit creative assets yourself as a plus.

Building proof when nobody has given you a budget yet

Hiring managers for media buying roles want to see spend, results and reasoning. If you don't have client accounts, build evidence in this order.

  1. Run your own small campaigns. Promote something real: a friend's shop, a church event, your own digital product. A small budget over two or three weeks gives you real CPL or cost-per-purchase numbers and screenshots.
  2. Offer a short, low-fee trial to a Nigerian small business. Agree the goal, budget and reporting in writing first. The business pays for the ads directly from its own ad account.
  3. Document tracking work. Install the Pixel on a test website, set up standard events and screenshot them firing in Events Manager. Many applicants skip this, so it marks you out.
  4. Write two or three case studies. One page each covering the goal, budget, structure, what you tested, results and what you'd change. Blur client names if you need to.
  5. Record a five-minute walkthrough. Share your screen, open a campaign and explain your decisions. Scale Army already asks for a skills video, so you'll reuse this.

Example (hypothetical): Tola ran ₦150,000 of Instagram lead ads for a Lagos cake business over three weeks. Her case study shows the first creative's cost per WhatsApp lead, the hook that cut that cost, the audience she paused, and a note that sales were tracked by hand because the client had no website. It's a small account, but it shows her reasoning, honesty about tracking limits and a real result.

Is Meta certification worth it?

Meta certification helps, but it won't replace results. Most ads we opened don't require it. A few agency ads on aggregator sites do ask for specific Meta certifications, so it's worth having once you can already run campaigns.

As of October 2026, the Meta certification catalogue lists role-based exams including media buying (410-101), digital marketing (100-101), media planning (400-101), creative strategy (300-101) and marketing science (200-101), plus skill-based exams and specialist badges. For a Meta Ads specialist job, the media buying exam (Meta Certified Media Buying Professional) is the most relevant.

What it costs and how you sit it:

  • Training is free. Meta Blueprint courses cost nothing, but finishing a course doesn't earn the official certificate (Markampus cost guide, reviewed September 2026).
  • The exam is paid. The same guide reports the public US associate voucher at $99 and says prices depend on country and exam level. Meta shows the live price when you register, so check it there. Professional-level exams are widely reported to cost more than associate ones, but we couldn't confirm the current figure on Meta's own pages.
  • You can sit it from home. Pearson VUE runs the exams online with a proctor or at a test centre, and advises booking at least a day ahead.

The Nigerian catch is the online proctored exam. You need stable power and internet for the whole sitting, a working webcam and a quiet room. Charge your inverter or confirm your generator fuel, and keep a MiFi or phone hotspot ready in case your main connection drops. Paying for the exam also needs a card that works for foreign payments, or a dollar card from one of the apps in our guide to receiving and spending dollars in Nigeria.

How much remote Meta Ads specialists earn

Pay depends on the employer's location, your contract type (contractor or employee), your seniority and how much ad spend you'll manage. Figures from the sources we opened:

SourceWhat it showsType of figure
Remote Rocketship, Nigeria media buyer page (Oct 2026)Scale Army media buyer: $2,300 to $2,500 a monthRange from a job ad
Same pageScale Army senior paid media buyer: $2,900 a monthFigure from a job ad
Same pageZipTalents media buyer: $2,000 to $3,000 a monthRange from a job ad
US BLS, May 2025Marketing specialists and market research analysts: $78,760 a year medianUS benchmark

At WorkRemote's house rate of ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN NFEM weighted average, 23 October 2026), $2,300 a month is about ₦3,133,000, $2,500 is about ₦3,405,000 and $2,900 is about ₦3,950,000. These are advertised gross amounts before tax and any withdrawal fees.

The Remote Rocketship page for media buyer jobs in Nigeria showed these listings when we checked in October 2026. It also flagged one long-open listing with no salary as a likely ghost job, which is a good reminder to check posting dates.

The US figure comes from the BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook and is a median for US-based workers in a broad occupation group. That works out to roughly $6,560 a month. It's a ceiling to aim towards over a career, not what an agency will offer someone in Nigeria. Africa-based contractors are usually paid well below US local salaries, and the ads above reflect that.

Locally advertised Nigerian roles usually pay in naira and well below the dollar figures above. For more on pay, see the PPC specialist salary guide.

The time-zone question: can you work US hours from Lagos?

Many Africa-eligible Meta Ads jobs serve US clients and expect US business hours. Work that out before you apply.

Scale Army's ad specifies 9am to 5pm PST. US Pacific is 9 hours behind Lagos in winter and 8 hours behind in summer. That means:

  • Winter (US standard time): 6pm to 2am in Lagos.
  • Summer (US daylight time): 5pm to 1am in Lagos.

US Eastern roles are easier: 9am to 5pm EST is 3pm to 11pm in Lagos in winter (from 1 November 2026), and 2pm to 10pm in summer.

UK and European agencies fit Lagos much better. London is one hour behind Lagos from late October to late March and on the same time in summer. Central Europe is on the same time as Lagos in winter. If evenings and late nights don't suit your household, filter for UK and EU employers. See how to find remote employment with European companies.

Night work in Nigeria brings practical costs. Your power backup has to last through the evening peak, and your internet has to hold up for late calls. Plan for an inverter or solar setup and two connections (a fixed provider or Starlink, plus a MiFi or hotspot) before you accept a US-hours role.

How to apply for a remote Meta Ads specialist job

  1. Filter for eligibility first. Read the location line and the body of the ad. "Remote, South Africa" or "Remote, US" excludes you. "LATAM, Africa, Eastern Europe", "EMEA" or "worldwide" may include you. If an ad is unclear, ask the recruiter in one line before spending an hour on it.
  2. Tailor your CV to Meta work. Lead with spend managed, results and verticals, for example: "Managed $4,000 a month across three lead-gen accounts; reduced CPL by 28% through hook testing". Use only numbers that are true and that you can show.
  3. Attach evidence. Link your case studies, a few creatives you made or briefed, and a tracking screenshot. The Athena ad asks for a CV highlighting Meta and analytics experience. Agency ads often ask for campaign examples and creative samples.
  4. Record the skills video properly. Keep it under five minutes. Show one real campaign, explain why it was set up that way, one test you ran and what you'd do next. Use a headset microphone and good light.
  5. Prepare for a practical test. Agencies often send an audit task ("here are screenshots from an account, what would you change?") or ask you to plan a campaign for a sample brand. Answer with a clear structure: goal, tracking check, audience and creative plan, budget and the metric you'll judge it on. Our guide on how to complete a remote marketing assessment covers the format.
  6. Practise the interview. Expect questions about scaling, falling ROAS and tracking problems. See the PPC specialist interview questions.

Example (hypothetical) opening for a cover message: "I run Meta lead-generation campaigns for small service businesses. In my last account I cut cost per booked call from $41 to $27 in five weeks by testing UGC-style hooks against static offers. My walkthrough video and two case studies are linked below. I'm based in Lagos and available for US Eastern hours."

Getting access to client ad accounts and paying for ads

Specialists normally work inside the client's ad account, paid with the client's card or invoice. You don't pay for the ads yourself. The client or agency grants you or your business portfolio access through Meta Business Suite, with a role suited to the work.

This matters in Nigeria for two reasons:

  • You avoid funding foreign ad spend. Naira cards often have tight limits on foreign transactions, and nobody should be fronting a client's budget.
  • It protects you from a common scam. A "client" or "agency" asks you to load ads onto your own card or to buy an ad account or business portfolio, promising to reimburse you. That's a red flag. Real employers don't ask staff to pay ad spend, buy accounts or pay "training fees". Our guide to spotting remote job scams in Nigeria covers the wider pattern.

Avoid renting or buying ad accounts in your own work too. Accounts linked to flagged assets can be restricted, and a ban on your personal profile can stop you working for every client.

Contractor or employee?

Most Africa-eligible Meta Ads roles we saw are contractor agreements paid monthly in dollars. Some companies hire through an employer of record. The difference affects benefits, notice periods and tax, so read our explainer on contractor versus employee arrangements before you sign.

Mistakes that cost Meta Ads applicants interviews

  • Showing likes and reach instead of business results. Media buying is judged on cost per lead, cost per purchase and ROAS.
  • No tracking evidence. If you can't explain how conversions are recorded, hiring managers assume the results aren't reliable.
  • Applying to US-only or South Africa-only ads. It wastes your time and theirs.
  • Inflated spend figures. Agencies ask follow-up questions and sometimes ask to see the account. Small, honest numbers beat big ones you can't back up.
  • Only knowing organic Instagram. If that's your background, learn the paid side before applying. Our guide on Instagram marketing jobs covers organic-focused roles.
  • Ignoring creative. Many current roles combine media buying with creative strategy, and creative testing is often what moves results most.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a remote Meta Ads specialist job from Nigeria without experience?

Rarely, for dollar-paid roles. The ads we opened ask for two to four or more years, or proven independent campaign management. Most people start with their own small campaigns, low-fee local clients or a junior agency role, then apply abroad once they have case studies.

Do I need Meta Blueprint certification to get hired?

No, most ads we saw don't require it. Results and tracking skills matter more. The certificate is a useful extra once you're competent, and a few agency ads list specific Meta certifications as required. Blueprint training is free, but the exam is paid, and Meta shows the live price when you register.

How much does a remote media buyer in Nigeria earn?

Africa-eligible agency ads we found in October 2026 advertised $2,000 to $3,000 a month, about ₦2,724,000 to ₦4,086,000 at ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN, 23 October 2026). Local naira-paid roles are usually much lower. Senior specialists managing large budgets can earn more, but US salary medians aren't a guide to offers for Nigeria-based contractors.

Is a Meta Ads specialist the same as a media buyer?

Mostly, yes. "Media buyer" often means someone managing paid budgets across several platforms, such as Meta, Google and TikTok. "Meta Ads specialist" means someone focused on Facebook and Instagram. Many job ads use the titles interchangeably, so read the duties rather than the title.

Should I learn Google Ads or TikTok Ads as well?

Adding Google Ads widens your options a lot, because many ads ask for "Google + Meta". TikTok helps for e-commerce and consumer brands. Get strong on Meta first, then add one platform. See remote TikTok marketing jobs if that's your direction.

How will I get paid by a foreign agency?

Usually monthly, in dollars, by bank transfer to a dollar account, through Payoneer or Wise, or through a platform such as Deel. Our guide to getting dollar payments into Nigeria compares the options and fees.

What test do agencies give Meta Ads applicants?

Usually an account audit or a campaign plan for a sample business, sometimes with a skills video. Show a clear structure (goal, tracking, audiences, creatives, budget, success metric) and explain your reasoning. A tidy, honest answer beats a long list of tactics.

Key takeaways

  • Remote Meta Ads specialist jobs open to Nigerians exist, mainly with agencies serving US clients, and some ads in October 2026 offered $2,000 to $3,000 a month.
  • Many "remote" Meta Ads roles are limited to one country, so check the location line and the ad text before applying.
  • Employers hire on proof: real campaign results, Pixel and Conversions API tracking, creative testing and clear reporting.
  • Meta certification is optional for most roles. Blueprint training is free and the exam is paid, sat online with Pearson VUE or at a test centre.
  • US-client roles can mean working from evening to 2am in Lagos. UK and EU employers fit WAT better.
  • Never pay ad spend from your own card or buy ad accounts for a "client". Real employers provide account access.
