Entry-Level Remote Marketing Jobs With No Experience
Which entry-level remote marketing jobs Nigerians can get with no experience, how to find them, read the ads, build proof of skill and avoid scams.

Yes, you can get a remote marketing job with no experience, but most of the openings are small: assistant, coordinator, intern and social media support roles, often on contract and often for startups or agencies. Real "zero experience" ads are rarer than job boards make them look, because plenty of ads titled "entry-level" still ask for a year or two of work.
This guide is for Nigerians trying to land a first remote marketing role without a paid marketing job behind them. It covers which entry-level remote marketing jobs beginners actually get, how to find them (including the search terms that work on job boards), how to read an ad so you don't waste applications, what pay to expect, and how to build proof of skill in about a month. It also covers the Nigerian side: US-hours shifts, power and internet backup, and getting paid. The aim is a realistic plan, not a list of job titles.
Quick answer
Entry-level remote marketing jobs open to beginners are usually marketing assistant, social media assistant, content or email marketing assistant, marketing coordinator and marketing intern roles. Employers hiring without experience want proof instead: a small portfolio, a free certificate such as HubSpot's Inbound course, and clear writing. Check every ad's location line and experience requirement, because many "entry-level" roles need 2+ years or residence in a specific country.
Which entry-level remote marketing jobs beginners can get
These are the roles where we see employers most willing to take someone without a marketing job on their CV. Most sit inside a team, where a manager hands you tasks and checks your work. That is exactly why they suit beginners.
| Role | What you actually do | Proof that helps |
|---|---|---|
| Marketing assistant | Scheduling posts, updating spreadsheets, briefing designers, simple reports | Organised sample tracker, writing samples |
| Social media assistant | Drafting captions, scheduling, replying to comments | A page you grew or ran |
| Content assistant | Blog drafts, editing, uploading to WordPress | Three published articles |
| Email marketing assistant | Building emails in Mailchimp or Klaviyo, list clean-up | A sample newsletter you sent |
| Marketing intern | Mixed support across a team | Course certificates, eagerness, availability |
| Marketing coordinator | Keeping campaigns on schedule, chasing deliverables | Project you ran end to end |
| Community moderator | Running a Discord, Telegram or Facebook group | A community you moderated |
Roles that sound beginner-friendly but usually aren't
Paid ads roles (Google Ads, Meta ads) rarely go to complete beginners, because a mistake costs the client real money. The same goes for "growth marketer", "performance marketer" and "marketing manager". You can learn the skills now, but expect to start as an assistant on a team that runs ads, not as the person holding the budget.
SEO is in between. Link-building outreach and SEO content roles do hire beginners. Technical SEO roles usually don't. Our SEO specialist career guide explains the path.
Adjacent roles that lead into marketing
If marketing ads keep rejecting you, a nearby role can get you in. Appointment setting and sales development involve the same research and messaging skills; see lead generation jobs for beginners. Social media virtual assistant work is another common route, covered in finding social media VA jobs. A year in either gives you something real to put on a marketing CV.
How to find entry-level remote marketing jobs
This section answers the question most beginners actually type: where are these jobs, and how do you search for them?
Use the words employers use in job titles
Searching "marketing jobs no experience" mostly returns spam pages and ads for courses. Search instead for the titles and phrases employers actually write:
- "marketing assistant", "marketing coordinator", "marketing intern"
- "junior" plus a channel: "junior content", "junior social media", "junior email marketing"
- "associate" (in marketing, an associate can be anything from new graduate to mid-level, so read the ad)
- "graduate", "trainee", "0 to 1 years"
- Location words: "worldwide", "anywhere", "EMEA", "Africa", "Nigeria", "WAT"
Know which kind of board you're on
There are three main sources, and each has a catch.
- Company applicant tracking systems (ATS). Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby and Workable host the original ads. They are the most accurate source because the employer writes the location and requirements there. Searching Google with
site:job-boards.greenhouse.ioorsite:jobs.lever.coplus "marketing intern remote" brings them up. - Remote job aggregators. Sites such as Jobgether copy ads from many sources. When we checked Jobgether's Nigeria email marketing page in October 2026, it showed several internships and junior roles tagged "Remote from Anywhere", but all were dated "30+ days ago" and none showed pay. Aggregators are useful for discovery, but always click through to the original ad before applying.
- Nigerian boards and newsletters. Jobberman, MyJobMag and email newsletters list remote roles with Nigerian and African companies. These are often easier to get as a first job, because the employer already works in your time zone.
On WorkRemote, marketing roles sit under business and marketing listings and content and social media listings. Each listing shows where applicants may live, and you can filter by experience level.
Example: an "entry-level" ad that wasn't
A careers newsletter for Africa, Africa Rising, listed an "Entry-level Marketing Coordinator" role at Interdependence, a PR and marketing agency, as "fully remote, work from anywhere" (edition dated 27 October 2026). The original Greenhouse ad, checked the same day, tells a different story. It asks for 2 to 5 years of experience in marketing, startup or growth roles. The application form asks about US work authorisation and visa sponsorship, and the location reads only "Remote".
This doesn't mean the company is doing anything wrong. It means the newsletter's "entry-level" label and "anywhere" description came from somewhere other than the ad itself. Always read the original.
A 60-second check before you apply
Run every ad through these questions:
- Where may applicants live? "Remote (US)" or "Remote, UK" usually means residence in that country. "EMEA" may include Nigeria, but often doesn't in practice. See our explainer on what EMEA means in a job ad.
- Does the form ask about work authorisation? A required question about US or UK work rights is a strong sign the role isn't open to you, even if the title says "remote".
- What experience does the body of the ad ask for? Ignore the title. Look for "1+ years", "2 to 5 years" or "proven track record".
- Is it paid? Unpaid "internships" that last months, or commission-only "marketing" roles, are not entry-level jobs.
- Are the hours stated? "US Eastern business hours" changes your life a lot from Lagos (see the time-zone section below).
Our guide on checking whether a remote job accepts Nigerian residents goes through this in more detail.
What employers want when you have no experience
Hiring managers taking on a beginner aren't really asking "has this person done the job?" They're asking whether you'll be reliable, whether you can write, and whether you'll learn quickly. You answer that with evidence, not adjectives.
Proof of skill beats a long CV
For marketing, proof usually looks like:
- A small portfolio: three to five pieces such as a social media calendar, a sample email, a short blog post and a one-page campaign plan for a real brand.
- Results, even tiny ones: "Grew my church's Instagram from 200 to 650 followers in three months" beats "passionate about social media".
- Tools named honestly: Canva, Google Sheets, Meta Business Suite, Mailchimp, WordPress, Google Analytics. Only list a tool you could use in a test tomorrow.
- Clean written English: your application email is your first writing sample.

Certificates worth your time (and what they cost)
Certificates won't get you hired alone, but they help when your CV is thin, and some cost nothing. As of October 2026:
| Certificate | Provider | Cost | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inbound | HubSpot Academy | Free | About 2 hours 45 minutes |
| Google Digital Marketing & E-commerce | Google on Coursera | $49 a month in the US and Canada after a 7-day trial; financial aid available | About 6 months at 10 hours a week |
| Google Ads training | Google Skillshop | Check current terms on Skillshop | Self-paced |
HubSpot's Inbound course has 7 lessons, 15 videos and 4 quizzes, and covers buyer personas, the buyer's journey and the flywheel model. That is a sensible first step because the vocabulary turns up in interviews. The Google certificate on Coursera is listed as beginner level with no degree or prior experience needed. Coursera shows prices by location, so check what it shows you from Nigeria and apply for financial aid if the cost is a barrier. Skillshop's training covers Google Ads Search, Display, Video, Shopping, Apps and Measurement. We couldn't confirm current pricing on its home page, so check before you start.

Writing is the skill that decides most applications
Nearly every remote marketing role involves writing: captions, emails, briefs, Slack updates to a manager in another country. Employers screening beginners often set a short writing task. Practise writing short and plain: one idea per sentence, no filler, a clear call to action.
Do you need a degree for entry-level remote marketing jobs?
Not always, but it helps more than people admit. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics says a bachelor's degree is typically required for market research analysts and marketing specialists, and that is the norm many US employers use for in-house roles.
Startups, agencies and small businesses are more flexible, especially for social media, content and assistant roles, where a portfolio counts for more. If you have an HND, an OND or no degree, aim at those employers first and let your samples do the talking.
How much entry-level remote marketing jobs pay
There's no reliable published average for beginner remote marketing pay for Nigeria-based workers, so we won't invent one. Here's what we can say with sources, and what drives the number.
The US benchmark (not what you'll be offered)
The BLS reports that market research analysts and marketing specialists in the US had a median pay of $78,760 a year in May 2025, and the lowest 10 percent earned under $43,390. Those are US figures for US-based workers, many of them experienced. A remote employer hiring a beginner in Nigeria will almost always pay well below them.
What changes the offer
- Who hires you. A Nigerian startup pays in naira at local rates. A foreign agency or startup may pay in dollars, but usually below its home-country pay.
- Contract type. Interns and part-time contractors are often paid a fixed monthly fee or an hourly rate, without benefits.
- Hours. Roles that cover US hours sometimes pay more because fewer people want the shift.
- The channel. Email, paid ads and marketing operations tend to pay more than general social media support.
Example (hypothetical): turning a dollar offer into naira
Say a foreign agency offers you $600 a month as a part-time marketing assistant. This is an illustration, not market data. At WorkRemote's house rate of ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN NFEM weighted average, 23 October 2026), $600 is about ₦817,200 a month before any withdrawal fees or tax. Whether that is a good offer depends on the hours, the shift and how you get paid. For actual digital marketing pay figures, see our digital marketing specialist salary guide.
A 30-day plan to become hireable
This plan assumes about two hours a day. It gives you a portfolio, a certificate and your first applications within a month.
- Days 1 to 3: pick one channel. Social media, email or content. "Digital marketing" is too broad for a beginner CV.
- Days 4 to 7: finish HubSpot's Inbound course and add the certificate to LinkedIn.
- Days 8 to 14: make three samples for a real brand you like: a two-week content calendar in Google Sheets, five designed posts in Canva, and one email or blog post.
- Days 15 to 21: get one real result. Offer to run a small business's page or your department's newsletter for free for a short, fixed period, with a clear end date. Track the numbers.
- Days 22 to 25: rewrite your CV around those samples and that result, with links. Our digital marketing specialist career guide shows the skills employers list.
- Days 26 to 30: apply to 10 to 15 carefully chosen roles, each with a short tailored note naming one idea for their brand.
Keep going after day 30: add one new sample a week and keep track of where you applied.
Nigeria-specific things that decide whether you can do the job
Time zones and shifts
Nigeria is on West Africa Time (UTC+1) all year. For UK employers in winter (from 25 October 2026), a 9am to 5pm London day runs from 10am to 6pm in Lagos. In summer it matches Lagos exactly. US Eastern roles are harder: from 1 November 2026, 9am to 5pm Eastern is 3pm to 11pm in Lagos. US Pacific is 9 hours behind in winter, which means working past midnight. If an ad says "overlap with EST", be honest with yourself about evenings before you apply.
Power and internet
Marketing work means uploading videos, joining calls and posting at fixed times, so a power cut at 7pm can cost you a deadline. Before you start, sort out an inverter or solar backup for your laptop and router, and use two internet options (for example, a home connection plus a MiFi or phone hotspot on a different network). Employers rarely ask about this up front, but they notice when you miss calls.
Contract type and payment
Most foreign employers hiring a beginner in Nigeria take you on as an independent contractor, not an employee. Sometimes they use a platform such as Deel or Remote. The difference affects leave, notice and tax; see contractor vs employee when a foreign company hires you. For getting the money into your account, our guide on receiving dollar payments in Nigeria compares Payoneer, Grey, Wise and others.
Mistakes and scams to avoid
Common beginner mistakes
- Applying to every "remote marketing" ad, including US-only and senior roles, then deciding nobody hires Nigerians.
- Listing "social media marketing" as a skill with no link to anything you've run.
- Sending one generic cover letter everywhere.
- Paying for an expensive bootcamp before trying the free courses.
- Accepting months of unpaid "trial" work.
Marketing-specific scams
Fake marketing jobs often ask you to "promote" products by paying to join, buy starter kits or recruit others. Others are "task" schemes on Telegram or WhatsApp where you like posts for small payouts until you're asked to deposit money. A real employer never charges you to get a job, and WorkRemote never charges anyone to apply. If an ad promises high dollar pay for "no experience, just a phone", treat it as a scam until proven otherwise. Our guide to spotting remote job scams in Nigeria lists the warning signs.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get a remote marketing job in Nigeria with no experience?
Yes, but usually in assistant, intern, social media or content support roles rather than specialist roles. Expect to need a small portfolio and some free certificates to make up for the lack of work history. Nigerian and African startups and small foreign agencies are often the easiest first employers.
What is the easiest remote marketing job for a beginner?
Social media assistant and content assistant roles are usually the easiest to enter, because you can prove the skill with samples you make yourself. Community moderation is another accessible route. Paid ads roles are among the hardest, because employers rarely hand a budget to a beginner.
Are free marketing certificates worth it?
They're worth it as supporting evidence, not as a ticket to a job. HubSpot's Inbound course is free and takes under three hours as of October 2026, so the cost is only your time. Pair any certificate with work samples, because employers hire on proof.
Can Nigerians apply for "remote, US" marketing jobs?
Usually not. "Remote, US" normally means you must live in the US and have the right to work there, and many application forms ask about US work authorisation. Look for "worldwide", "anywhere" or roles that explicitly name Nigeria or Africa.
How much does an entry-level remote marketing job pay?
There's no reliable published average for Nigeria-based beginners. Pay depends on the employer's country, the hours and the contract type. US benchmarks, such as the BLS median of $78,760 a year in May 2025 for marketing specialists, apply to US-based workers and are well above what remote beginners abroad are typically offered.
Do I need my own laptop for a remote marketing job?
Yes, in almost all cases. Contractors are expected to provide their own laptop, internet and power backup. A mid-range laptop that runs a browser, Canva and video calls smoothly is enough for most entry-level marketing work.
Is a remote marketing internship worth doing?
A paid or clearly time-limited internship with real tasks and a named supervisor is worth it, because it gives you the experience line your CV lacks. Be wary of open-ended unpaid internships and anything that asks you to pay a placement fee.
Key takeaways
- Entry-level remote marketing jobs exist, mostly as assistant, coordinator, intern, social media and content roles.
- Many ads labelled "entry-level" still ask for 1 to 5 years of experience or US work authorisation, so read the original ad, not the aggregator summary.
- Search with real job-title words ("marketing assistant", "junior", "intern") plus location words ("worldwide", "Africa", "Nigeria").
- A few samples and one small real result count for more than a long list of skills.
- Free certificates such as HubSpot Inbound help, but they back up a portfolio; they don't replace one.
- Plan for US or UK hours, backup power and internet, contractor terms and how you'll get paid.
