How to Find Remote Enterprise Architect Jobs
How Nigerian architects can find remote enterprise architect jobs: titles to search, where ads appear, eligibility checks, pay benchmarks and TOGAF.

You find remote enterprise architect jobs by searching several job titles, not just one, and by checking every ad's location rules before you apply. Most remote enterprise architect vacancies are open only to people in one country. For a Nigeria-based architect, the realistic openings are EMEA-wide roles, "worldwide" contracts, consultancies and vendors that hire across regions, and companies whose ads name Nigeria or Africa.
Enterprise architecture is a senior field. Employers rarely hire for it remotely unless you can show you have shaped technology decisions across a whole organisation, not just one system. That makes the search harder than for developer roles, and the honest message of this guide is that it takes patience.
Below, we cover which titles to search, where these ads appear, how to read eligibility fields that contradict themselves, what the pay benchmarks really tell you, and how to present enterprise-level work from a Nigerian bank, telco or fintech so international hiring managers take it seriously.
Quick answer
Search for "enterprise architect" alongside related titles such as principal architect, domain architect, business architect and head of architecture. Search EMEA-focused and worldwide remote boards as well as company career pages. Apply only where the ad accepts Nigeria, Africa, EMEA or worldwide applicants without requiring local work authorisation. Expect to need about 8 to 10 years of experience, TOGAF or cloud architect certification, and written proof of organisation-wide decisions.
What a remote enterprise architect actually does
An enterprise architect designs how an organisation's business processes, data, applications and technology fit together over several years. A solutions architect designs one solution for one problem. An enterprise architect decides which solutions the organisation should have at all, and how they connect.
Typical work includes:
- Mapping current systems and the target state (what the business needs in two to five years)
- Writing architecture principles and standards, then running an architecture review board
- Producing roadmaps that sequence migrations, such as moving a core banking system or consolidating CRMs
- Advising executives on build-versus-buy decisions and vendor selection
- Modelling capabilities and value streams in tools such as LeanIX, Ardoq, Bizzdesign or Sparx Enterprise Architect
Most of this work happens through documents, diagrams and meetings, so it can be done remotely. The catch is that it relies on trust and influence with senior stakeholders. Companies often prefer someone who can attend the occasional workshop in person, and that is one reason fully remote, international enterprise architect roles are less common than remote engineering roles.
If you are still choosing between the two architecture paths, our planned guide to solutions architect career requirements covers the solution-level route in detail.
Why many remote enterprise architect jobs exclude Nigeria
"Remote" in an enterprise architect ad usually means "remote within our country". There are a few reasons for this:
- Employment law and payroll. A US or UK company that hires an employee in Nigeria needs a Nigerian entity or an employer of record (EOR). Many companies only set this up for a few countries.
- Data and security access. Enterprise architects see sensitive system designs. Banks, insurers and government suppliers often limit that access to staff in approved countries, sometimes with security clearance.
- Stakeholder hours. The role involves many meetings with executives. A company in California may decide nine hours of time difference is too much.
- Language. Regional roles often require the local language. As of October 2026, one aggregator's Africa page for senior enterprise architect jobs showed ads limited to Egypt (Arabic required) and Morocco (French required) (Remote Rocketship).
This doesn't mean the door is closed. It means your filtering step matters more than in junior roles. Our planned article on why some remote jobs are not available to Nigerians explains the legal reasons in more depth.
The location types you will see in ads
| Ad says | What it usually means for you |
|---|---|
| Remote, US / UK / Canada | Needs existing right to work there. Skip. |
| Remote, EMEA | Often open to Nigeria. Check the country list or ask. |
| Remote, Africa | Usually open, but may need a language or a specific country. |
| Remote worldwide / anywhere | Open in principle. Confirm with the recruiter. |
| Contract, B2B, anywhere in EMEA | Open to contractors. You invoice as a business. |
For a fuller explanation of the regional label, see our planned guide on what EMEA means in a remote job description.
Job titles to search besides "enterprise architect"
Searching one title is the most common mistake in this field. Organisations label the same work in many ways, and the label often depends on how mature their architecture practice is.
| Title | What it often signals |
|---|---|
| Enterprise Architect | Classic EA role. Often in-house at a large company. |
| Principal / Lead Architect | Senior architect, sometimes with EA scope. |
| Domain Architect (data, security, integration) | EA work limited to one domain. |
| Business Architect | Capability and process side of EA. |
| Head of Architecture / Chief Architect | Leads an EA team. |
| Enterprise Solutions Architect | Bridge role between solution and enterprise level. |
| Technology Architect / Technical Architect | Varies a lot, so read the duties. |
Also search vendor and consulting titles. Software vendors that sell to large companies hire "enterprise architects" or "customer architects" into presales and customer success teams, where the job is to design how the product fits into a customer's estate. These roles are more often regional (EMEA) than in-house EA roles, because the vendor already sells across many countries.
If your background is in SAP, Oracle or Microsoft Dynamics, the ERP route is also worth a look. See the planned guides to remote ERP consultant jobs and remote SAP consultant jobs.
Where remote enterprise architect jobs are advertised
No single board has them all. Spread your searching across these source types.
Company career pages and applicant tracking systems
Many employers post on their own careers page, which is often hosted on Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workable or SmartRecruiters. You can search these hosts directly in Google, for example:
site:job-boards.greenhouse.io "enterprise architect" EMEAsite:jobs.lever.co "principal architect" remotesite:apply.workable.com "enterprise architect" worldwide
The results are patchy and some will have expired, but they take you straight to the employer's ad rather than to a copy on an aggregator. Our planned guide to finding remote jobs on company career pages covers this method step by step.
Remote and regional job boards
General remote boards and EMEA-focused boards list architect roles alongside everything else. Aggregators gather ads from many career pages, which helps you discover companies. Always click through to the original ad, because aggregators sometimes keep a listing up after it has closed or summarise the location wrongly.
Freelance and contract platforms
Enterprise architecture suits contracts: a company needs a target-state design or a vendor assessment for six months, not a permanent hire. European contract boards often list EA engagements described as "anywhere in EMEA" or "B2B". As a contractor you invoice the client and handle your own tax. Read contractor or employee: how foreign companies hire from Nigeria before you agree terms.
Consultancies and systems integrators
Global consultancies and integrators with delivery centres in Africa or Europe hire architects to serve clients in several countries. Their roles may be "remote within Nigeria" with international clients. That can be a stepping stone to fully international roles.
Your network
At this level, many roles are filled through referrals or recruiters before they are ever advertised. A LinkedIn profile that clearly says "Enterprise Architect, open to remote EMEA roles" and lists frameworks, industries and tools does a lot of passive searching for you.
How to check an enterprise architect ad accepts Nigerian applicants
Ads sometimes contradict themselves, so check more than the title. As of October 2026, an Enterprise Architect ad from WorkNomads on Workable was titled "Remote Worldwide", but the job data behind the page listed a single country (Bulgaria), with no description of requirements (Workable job data, WorkNomads). The title and the location field told different stories, and the only way to know for sure is to ask.
Use this checklist before you spend an hour on an application:
- Read the location line, the title and the body text. If any of them names a country you don't live in, note it.
- Search the ad for "authorised to work", "right to work", "clearance" and "visa sponsorship". Any of these usually means the role is restricted.
- Look at the application form. A country dropdown without Nigeria, or a question about US work authorisation, tells you a lot.
- Check the salary currency and hours. A range in US dollars "for candidates in the US" doesn't apply to you.
- If it is still unclear, send the recruiter a short message: "I'm based in Lagos, Nigeria (WAT, UTC+1). Is this role open to candidates there, as an employee via EOR or as a contractor?"
Our planned guide on verifying whether a remote job accepts Nigerian residents goes further into application forms and EOR clues.
What remote enterprise architects earn
There is no reliable published salary figure for Nigeria-based remote enterprise architects working for foreign companies, so we won't invent one. What we can give you are benchmarks from other markets, with their limits stated.
| Benchmark | Figure | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| UK, remote/hybrid enterprise architect, permanent | £105,000 median | ITJobsWatch, job ads, 6 months to 27 October 2026 |
| UK, same, 25th to 75th percentile | £83,750 to £142,500 | Same source |
| US computer network architects (related occupation) | $134,050 a year median | BLS, May 2025 |
Sources: ITJobsWatch (salaries quoted in UK job ads, so asking pay, not confirmed pay) and the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. BLS doesn't publish a separate category for enterprise architects. Network architect is the nearest related occupation, so treat it as a rough reference.
For scale, $134,050 is about ₦182.6 million a year at ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN NFEM weighted average, 23 October 2026). We have not converted the pound figures because we haven't sourced a pound-to-naira rate.
Don't expect those numbers. They are what employers pay people living in the UK and US. Companies hiring from Nigeria usually pay less than US local rates, and many set pay by location band. Contract day rates vary widely by client and by your track record. What tends to push your offer up:
- Hiring as a regional (EMEA) employee through an EOR rather than as a low-cost contractor
- Industry depth that is scarce, such as core banking, payments, telecoms billing or insurance platforms
- Recognised certification (TOGAF, a cloud professional-level architect certificate)
- Evidence of running architecture governance, not only drawing diagrams
To compare offers properly, see our planned guides on comparing international salary offers and high-paying remote jobs for experienced professionals.
What employers expect before they shortlist you
Remote enterprise architect ads tend to ask for the same core items. You don't need every one, but you need most of them.
Experience
Expect asks of roughly 8 to 12 or more years in IT, with several years in an architect role. For context, BLS describes the related network architect occupation as typically needing 5 or more years in a related role on top of a bachelor's degree (BLS). Enterprise roles usually ask for more than that.
Frameworks and certification
TOGAF, from The Open Group, is the framework most often named in EA ads. The current TOGAF Standard, 10th Edition, has an EA Foundation level (exam OGEA-101) and an EA Practitioner level (OGEA-102, or the combined OGEA-103). There is a bridge exam (OGEA-10B) for holders of the older TOGAF 9 Certified credential. Exams are delivered through Pearson VUE, including online proctored exams taken at home (The Open Group TOGAF certification portfolio). Fees change, so check The Open Group's current fee schedule before you budget. Your card's foreign-transaction charges apply on top.
Cloud architect certification often matters as much, because most EA roadmaps now involve cloud migration. The AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional exam costs $300 (about ₦408,600 at ₦1,362 to $1, 23 October 2026). It is 180 minutes long, can be taken online with a proctor, and AWS recommends at least 2 years of hands-on AWS design experience. AWS also notes that the current exam version (SAP-C02) is available until 16 November 2026, after which an updated version replaces it, as of October 2026 (AWS). Microsoft and Google offer comparable architect certifications.
Our planned roundup of the best IT certifications for landing remote jobs compares the options.
Modelling and tooling
You should be comfortable with ArchiMate notation, an EA repository tool (LeanIX, Ardoq, Bizzdesign, Sparx or similar), diagramming in draw.io or Lucidchart, and writing architecture decision records (ADRs). A good ADR states the context, the options considered, the decision and its consequences in about one page.
How to present Nigerian enterprise experience to international employers
Many Nigerian architects have worked on exactly the problems international employers care about: core banking migrations, instant-payment integrations, telco billing, KYC platforms and multi-country rollouts. The problem is usually how that work is written up, not the work itself.
Write outcomes, not job descriptions
Weak: "Responsible for enterprise architecture across the bank."
Stronger: "Designed the target-state integration architecture for a tier-one bank's move from point-to-point links to an API gateway, cutting 40 interfaces to 12 and setting the standard later used for three new channels."
Only use numbers you can defend in an interview. If your employer is confidential, describe it: "a Nigerian commercial bank with operations in four countries".
Build a short architecture portfolio
Engineers have GitHub. Architects need a portfolio of artefacts with confidential details removed. A strong portfolio has three to five items:
- A capability map for a real or realistic organisation
- A current-state and target-state view with a phased roadmap
- Two or three ADRs showing how you weighed trade-offs
- A one-page architecture principles document
- A short write-up of a governance process you ran
Example (hypothetical): Tunde, a solutions architect at a Lagos fintech, wants to move into enterprise roles. He has no EA title, so he rebuilds his company's payment-platform roadmap as a sanitised case study, with a capability map, a target state that consolidates three ledgers, and the ADR explaining why the team chose event streaming. He links it from his CV and LinkedIn. In interviews he walks through the trade-offs instead of listing technologies.
Show you can run remote stakeholder work
Hiring managers worry about whether a remote architect can influence executives they never meet in person. Give examples of written proposals that got approved, review boards you ran over video, and decisions you got through without being in the room.
For CV structure, see our planned guide on writing a CV for international remote jobs.
Time zones, contracts and Nigerian practicalities
Time-zone fit
Nigeria is on West Africa Time (WAT, UTC+1) all year. That fits European roles very well. As of late October 2026, London is on GMT and Lagos is one hour ahead, so a 9am to 5pm London day runs from 10am to 6pm in Lagos. Central Europe is on the same time as Lagos in winter.
US roles are harder. From 1 November 2026, US Eastern time is six hours behind Lagos, so a 10am New York steering committee meeting is 4pm in Lagos, and an afternoon meeting runs into your evening. US Pacific is nine hours behind in winter. Mention your overlap hours clearly in applications. For more, see the planned guide on answering questions about working across time zones.
Power and internet
Architecture roles involve long video workshops and sharing diagrams on screen. A dropped call during an executive review hurts your credibility more than it would in a junior role. Have inverter or solar backup sized for a full working day, and two internet routes, for example fibre plus a MiFi or a phone hotspot on a different network. Starlink is available in Nigeria if your area has poor fixed broadband. Check the current price before you commit.
Contract type and payment
You'll be hired in one of three ways: as an employee through an EOR such as Deel or Remote, as a direct contractor, or through a consultancy. Each affects pay, benefits and tax differently. Read our guides on how to receive dollar payments in Nigeria and tax for remote workers in Nigeria before you sign.
Mistakes and risks to avoid
- Applying to every "remote" ad. Sending fifty applications to US-only roles wastes weeks and teaches you nothing. Filter first.
- Searching only "enterprise architect". You'll miss domain, principal and vendor roles.
- Listing frameworks without evidence. "TOGAF, ArchiMate, Zachman" on a CV means little without artefacts or outcomes.
- Overstating scope. Interviewers for EA roles test depth. If you led integration architecture but not the whole enterprise, say so and show the impact.
- Ignoring the contract details. A "worldwide" contract with no notice period or payment terms is a real risk at senior day rates.
- Falling for fake senior roles. Scammers also post high-paying "architect" roles and then ask for fees for "certification", "equipment" or "visa processing". No genuine employer asks you to pay to be hired. See how to spot remote job scams in Nigeria.
A weekly search routine that works
- Save searches for five or six titles on two remote boards and on LinkedIn, filtered to remote and EMEA or worldwide where the board allows it.
- Run two or three
site:searches on applicant tracking systems each week for new ads. - Keep a list of 20 to 30 target companies (vendors, consultancies, fintechs and multinationals with African operations) and check their careers pages every fortnight.
- Read each ad's location rules before reading anything else.
- For roles that pass, tailor your CV summary and pick the two portfolio items that match the company's industry.
- Message one recruiter or architect a week with a specific, short note. Don't send a generic "please refer me".
- Track applications, replies and outcomes in a spreadsheet so you can see which titles and sources actually produce interviews.
Frequently asked questions
Can a Nigerian get a remote enterprise architect job with a foreign company?
Yes, but only where the employer accepts applicants in Nigeria. That usually means EMEA-wide, Africa-wide or worldwide roles, or contracts. Many remote enterprise architect ads are limited to one country, so check the location rules and application form before applying.
Is TOGAF required for enterprise architect jobs?
It isn't always required, but it is the framework most often named in EA ads. The current track is TOGAF EA Foundation and EA Practitioner, with exams taken through Pearson VUE, online or at a test centre. Strong experience can outweigh a missing certificate, but certification helps when the hiring manager can't easily check your employers.
How many years of experience do remote enterprise architect roles need?
Most ads ask for senior experience, often around 8 to 12 years in IT with several years in architecture roles. Entry-level remote enterprise architect jobs effectively don't exist. People usually move into EA from solutions architecture, senior engineering, business analysis or IT leadership.
How much does a remote enterprise architect earn?
UK remote and hybrid enterprise architect ads had a median of £105,000 in the six months to 27 October 2026, according to ITJobsWatch. Those figures reflect UK-based hiring. Pay offered to Nigeria-based architects is usually lower and depends on contract type, industry depth and the employer's location bands.
What is the difference between a solutions architect and an enterprise architect?
A solutions architect designs a specific system or project. An enterprise architect sets the long-term structure and standards that all those systems follow, across the whole organisation. Remote solutions architect roles are more common, so many people use them as a route into EA.
Which job titles should I search besides enterprise architect?
Try principal architect, lead architect, domain architect (data, security or integration), business architect, enterprise solutions architect, head of architecture and chief architect. Vendor presales roles titled customer architect or enterprise architect are also worth searching, as they are often regional rather than single-country.
Are contract enterprise architect roles better for Nigerians?
They are often easier to get, because the client doesn't need to employ you in Nigeria. The trade-off is no employee benefits and full responsibility for your own tax and invoicing. Compare the day rate with what an EOR employee package would give you before you choose.
Key takeaways
- Most remote enterprise architect ads are limited to one country. EMEA, Africa, worldwide and contract roles are where Nigerians have a real chance.
- Search several titles, including principal, domain and business architect, and vendor presales architect roles.
- Check the location line, body text and application form. Titles and location fields can contradict each other.
- UK and US pay figures are benchmarks, not what a Nigeria-based architect will usually be offered.
- TOGAF and a professional-level cloud architect certificate help, but a sanitised portfolio of roadmaps and ADRs does more to prove enterprise scope.
- The WAT time zone suits European roles well. US roles mean afternoon and evening meetings.
Next steps
Start with your evidence: put together two or three sanitised architecture artefacts and rewrite your CV around outcomes. Then search the remote tech listings on WorkRemote. Each listing shows the company, its website and where applicants may live. WorkRemote reviews listings and aims to publish genuine remote roles open to applicants from Nigeria, but it can't check every detail, so confirm eligibility on the employer's own ad. After running a search on /jobs, use "Get email updates" to receive a free daily digest of new matching roles.
