Remote SAP Consultant Jobs for International Applicants: What Nigerians Should Know
Can Nigerians get remote SAP consultant jobs? What 2026 ads require, how to read location tags, UK pay benchmarks and free routes into SAP.

Yes, people living in Nigeria can land remote SAP consultant jobs, but most of the work is senior, freelance contract work, and plenty of ads that look global are really limited to one country. Your chances depend on three things: the SAP module you know, how many years of real project experience you have, and whether the ad accepts contractors based outside the client's country.
SAP is the business software that big manufacturers, utilities, retailers and public bodies use to run finance, procurement, production and HR. When a company moves to SAP S/4HANA or adds a module, it hires consultants, and many of those projects now run remotely. This guide covers the kinds of SAP roles you'll see advertised, what remote SAP ads looked like in October 2026, how to tell whether "remote" includes you, what the pay evidence shows, and the routes into SAP for Nigerians who are still at the start.
Quick answer
Remote SAP consultant jobs are open to international applicants when the ad accepts contractors or employees in your country. As of October 2026, most remote SAP ads ask for 5 to 10 years of module experience (FICO, MM, PP, EWM, SuccessFactors, Basis, BTP) and are freelance contracts. Juniors usually get in through programmes like SAP's free Young Professionals Program or an in-house SAP role in Nigeria. Always check the original ad's location rules.
What a remote SAP consultant actually does
An SAP consultant configures, builds, supports or upgrades SAP systems for a client. The job splits into two broad tracks, and SAP's own graduate programme uses the same split.
- Functional consultants know a business process (finance, procurement, production, warehousing, HR) and set SAP up to match it. They run workshops, write specifications, configure the system, test it and train users.
- Technical consultants handle the system underneath: ABAP development, Basis (installation, performance, transports), integration with SAP Integration Suite (CPI), security and authorisations, and data migration.
Remote work fits SAP well because the systems are cloud-hosted or reached over VPN, and the project tools (Jira, Solution Manager, Teams, SharePoint) are online anyway. Go-live weeks and some client workshops can still involve travel, so ads sometimes say "remote with occasional travel". As a Nigerian passport holder, that can mean a visa application, so ask early.
SAP modules you'll see in remote ads
The table below lists modules and areas that showed up repeatedly in remote SAP listings we reviewed in October 2026.
| Module or area | What it covers | Track |
|---|---|---|
| FICO (FI and CO) | Finance and controlling, general ledger, costing | Functional |
| MM / Sourcing and Procurement | Purchasing, inventory, procure-to-pay | Functional |
| PP / PM / QM | Production planning, maintenance, quality | Functional |
| EWM | Extended warehouse management | Functional |
| SuccessFactors | Cloud HR: Employee Central, recruiting, learning | Functional |
| Ariba | Cloud procurement and supplier management | Functional |
| Basis | System administration and upgrades | Technical |
| ABAP | SAP's programming language | Technical |
| BTP and CPI | Cloud platform and integrations | Technical |
| SAC, BW/4HANA, Datasphere | Analytics and data warehousing | Technical |
If you're choosing a module, start from your background. An ICAN-trained accountant is closer to FICO. Someone from supply chain or a factory floor fits MM, PP or EWM. HR people fit SuccessFactors, and developers fit ABAP or BTP. For how SAP compares with other ERP systems such as Oracle and Microsoft Dynamics, see our upcoming guide to remote ERP consultant jobs.
Can international applicants get remote SAP jobs?
Yes, but you're competing mainly for contract work, and the bar is experience. We opened Jobgether's remote SAP consultant listings filtered for EMEA and for Kenya (the closest African filter we found) on 27 October 2026. Here's what they showed:
- Mostly freelance. Most cards were labelled "Freelance". Only a minority were full-time employment.
- Mostly senior. The most common label was "Senior (5 to 10 years)". Some asked for over 10 years, a smaller group asked for 2 to 5 years, and we saw almost nothing at entry level.
- Many non-English ads. A noticeable share were in German or Portuguese (for example "SAP Berater" or "Consultor SAP MM Sênior"). These usually expect you to speak that language.
- S/4HANA work is common. Rollouts, migrations and S/4HANA public cloud projects came up again and again.
That pattern tells you how SAP hiring works. The client (say, a German manufacturer) hires an SAP partner or consulting firm. That firm fills gaps with freelancers, often through staffing agencies. A Nigerian consultant who can invoice as a contractor fits that chain well. A Nigerian who needs to be put on payroll in Germany usually doesn't.
Why "Remote from Anywhere" on an aggregator is not enough
Aggregators re-publish ads from other sites, and their location tags can be wrong. On 27 October 2026, Jobgether's Kenya-filtered page showed several mindsquare AG SAP roles tagged "Remote from Anywhere". The same day, ITJobsWatch listed mindsquare AG's SAP FI roles as "Home office, Germany". Those are not the same thing. "Home office, Germany" means you work from home, but your home must be in Germany.
The rule: open the original ad on the employer's or agency's own site and read the location line, the contract type and any line about work authorisation. If it still isn't clear, ask the recruiter one direct question before you put time into the application: "Can you engage a contractor based in Nigeria (WAT, UTC+1) for this role?"
The four kinds of "remote" in SAP ads
SAP ads use "remote" loosely. This table shows what each version usually means for someone in Nigeria.
| What the ad says | What it usually means | Open to Nigeria? |
|---|---|---|
| "Remote, UK" or "Home office, Germany" | Remote inside one country | No, unless you live there with the right to work |
| "Remote, EMEA" or "Europe time zones" | Region-based, often tied to time zones | Sometimes; check for listed countries |
| "Remote from anywhere, freelance" | Contractor paid against invoices | Often, if confirmed in the original ad |
| Project on a freelance platform | Fixed scope or hourly gig | Usually, subject to platform rules |
EMEA stands for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, so Nigeria is technically inside it, but many "EMEA" ads only hire in countries where the company has an entity. Our planned explainers on what EMEA means in a remote job ad and what worldwide remote really means from Nigeria go into more detail.
Watch for these restriction phrases in SAP ads in particular:
- "W2 only" or "US citizens or green card holders": US employment only. You can't apply from Nigeria.
- "SC cleared" or "security clearance required": UK or US government work, closed to non-citizens in practice.
- "Outside IR35": a UK contractor tax status. It tells you the role is a UK contract. It doesn't automatically mean they'll pay an overseas company or individual, so ask.
- "Must be able to travel to client site": you may need a Schengen, UK or US visa on short notice.
How much do remote SAP consultants earn?
No reliable public source gives pay for SAP consultants based in Nigeria and working for foreign clients. What we can show is what foreign markets advertise, which works as a ceiling and a negotiation reference, not as what you'll be offered.
| Source (checked 27 October 2026) | Figure | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| ITJobsWatch, UK remote or hybrid SAP FI ads | Median £75,000 a year (10th to 90th percentile £71,750 to £91,250) | Advertised UK permanent salaries |
| ITJobsWatch, UK SAP Funds & Grants BA contract | Up to £600 a day, outside IR35 | One UK contract ad |
| ITJobsWatch, UK SAP FICO Project Manager | £750 a day | One UK contract ad |
| Jobgether remote SAP consultant pages | $88,000 to $135,000 "average salary" | Aggregator's figure; method not stated |
Treat these carefully:
- The UK figures come from UK roles that generally need UK residence. They show what clients pay a local consultant, not what a contractor in Lagos gets.
- Remote pay for Nigeria-based workers is usually below UK, German or US local pay, especially when an agency sits between you and the client and takes its margin.
- Pay depends on module scarcity (BTP, integration, EWM and SAP for Utilities tend to be harder to fill than general support), S/4HANA project experience, English plus German or French, and whether you can work the client's hours.
Example (hypothetical): turning a day rate into naira
Say a European agency offers you a freelance FICO support contract at $250 a day for 20 days a month. That figure is chosen to show the maths. It isn't a market rate.
- Gross monthly invoice: $250 × 20 = $5,000
- At ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN NFEM weighted average, 23 October 2026), that's about ₦6,810,000 before any fees or tax.
- Then subtract withdrawal or conversion fees from whatever payment route you use, plus your Nigerian tax.
The first number you'll see is a day rate. What lands in your account is smaller. For the payment side, our guide on how to receive dollar payments in Nigeria compares the usual apps and accounts. For what you owe at home, see tax for remote workers in Nigeria.
How to break into SAP from Nigeria if you're not senior yet
Honestly, remote SAP jobs for beginners with no SAP project history are rare. The realistic plan is to get real SAP experience first, usually in a local or on-site role, then move to remote contracts once you have projects to point to.
Route 1: SAP's Young Professionals Program (free)
SAP runs a Young Professionals Program in Nigeria through its Digital Skills Center. According to SAP's announcement for the Nigeria 2026 cohort, it is:
- free, two months long, and taught online in a live virtual classroom
- for graduates with a bachelor's degree in a related field (the announcement names business administration, MIS, engineering, data science and AI) who are unemployed or in unrelated part-time or non-permanent work, with graduation in the last three years and a top-quartile GPA preferred
- full-time, 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday, with a strong home internet connection required
- aimed at associate-level SAP certification, with functional and technical tracks
SAP says it introduces graduates to SAP customers and partners afterwards, but the programme does not guarantee a job. The 2026 cohort started in mid-May 2026, so watch SAP's Africa news pages and careers site for the next intake (as of October 2026, we haven't seen dates for 2027).
Route 2: an in-house SAP role in Nigeria
Many large companies in Nigeria run SAP for finance, procurement and manufacturing, and they hire "SAP super users", SAP analysts and support staff. Search Nigerian job boards for "SAP FICO", "SAP MM" or "SAP super user". A year or two of hands-on support, month-end close in SAP or an S/4HANA upgrade is exactly what remote clients look for. An on-site job in Lagos or Ogun can be the bridge to a remote contract later.
Route 3: certification plus a practical portfolio
SAP certification helps an application get past the first screen, but it doesn't replace project experience. SAP Learning offers free learning journeys that prepare you for certification exams. The exam itself is paid. As of October 2026 we couldn't open an official SAP page showing the current price for Nigeria, so check the live price on SAP Learning before you budget, and convert at the current rate.
Two cautions:
- Be careful with cheap "SAP server access" sellers and unofficial training institutes. Some use unlicensed systems. Before you pay any provider, ask what hands-on access comes with the course.
- Don't buy exam "dumps". They break SAP's exam rules, and you'll be found out in the first technical interview anyway.
For how SAP certificates compare with cloud and security certificates, see our planned guide to the IT certifications that help most for remote jobs.
How Nigerian SAP consultants find and apply for remote roles
This is the workflow we'd suggest for someone with at least two to three years of SAP experience.
- Pick one module headline. "SAP S/4HANA FICO consultant, 6 years, 2 full-cycle implementations" works better than "SAP consultant (FI, MM, SD, PP, ABAP)".
- Write a project-based CV. For each project, list the client industry (you can anonymise the client), the SAP version (ECC or S/4HANA), the phase (blueprint, realisation, go-live, hypercare), your scope and a result. Something like "configured asset accounting for 14 company codes" is the kind of detail SAP recruiters scan for.
- Search the right places. Look at SAP partner and consulting firms' careers pages, specialist SAP freelance agencies, freelance platforms, LinkedIn (filter by "Remote" and then read the location line), aggregators such as Jobgether (use them for leads, never as proof of eligibility) and tech listings on WorkRemote.ng. Our planned guide on finding jobs on company career pages shows how to check original ads.
- Confirm eligibility before applying. Open the original ad. Look for "freelance", "contract", "worldwide" or a country list that includes Nigeria. If it's vague, ask the recruiter directly.
- State your working hours up front. "Based in Lagos, WAT (UTC+1): same time as Central Europe in winter, one hour behind in summer" removes a common worry.
- Prepare for a technical screen. Expect scenario questions such as "walk me through configuring a new company code" or "how would you handle a failed IDoc in production". Our business analyst interview questions cover the requirements-gathering side that functional SAP interviews also test.
- Agree the contract terms in writing. Pin down the rate, invoicing currency, payment schedule, notice period and who pays for SAP system access or VPN.
German and Central European clients are a natural fit, because Lagos is on the same clock as Berlin in winter and one hour behind in summer. If you speak German, you can apply to a much larger pool of ads. Our planned article on remote jobs with German companies covers that market.
Contracts, time zones and working setup
Contractor or employee?
Most remote SAP work you'll get from Nigeria will be as an independent contractor. You invoice, you're paid against the invoice, and you handle your own tax, equipment and downtime. Some firms instead hire you through an employer of record (EOR), which gives you an employment contract and payroll. Each option has different rights and costs, which we cover in contractor versus EOR employee.
Time zones
Nigeria is on WAT (UTC+1) all year. For SAP clients, that works out as:
- Germany, Netherlands and most of Europe: same time as Lagos in winter, one hour ahead in summer. Easy.
- UK: Lagos is one hour ahead in winter (UK clocks went back on 25 October 2026) and on the same time in summer.
- US East Coast: 5 hours behind Lagos in summer, 6 in winter (from 1 November 2026). Expect late evenings, especially during go-live.
- Dubai: 3 hours ahead, so your mornings overlap with their working day.
Power and internet during go-live
Cutover weekends and hypercare are when SAP projects go wrong, and a client won't accept "NEPA took light" when the payment run is failing. Budget for an inverter or solar backup, plus a generator if your area's supply is poor. Keep two internet connections, such as a fixed line or Starlink plus a MiFi or phone hotspot on another network. Many SAP clients require their VPN, so test it on both connections before your first critical day.
Red flags in SAP job hunting
SAP's high rates attract scams aimed at people trying to break in. Watch for these:
- "Training plus guaranteed placement" for a fee. A legitimate employer doesn't charge you to be hired. Paying for a course is your choice, but a "placement guarantee" attached to it is a warning sign.
- Offers to fake your experience. Some "consultancies" offer to invent SAP project history on your CV or sit interviews for you. Clients find out on the project, and it ends your name in a small industry.
- Interviews only on Telegram or WhatsApp, with no video call, no technical questions and an instant offer.
- Requests for your passport, BVN or bank login before you've seen a written contract from a firm you can verify.

Frequently asked questions
Can a Nigerian work remotely as an SAP consultant for a European company?
Yes, if the company or its agency can engage a contractor based in Nigeria. Many European SAP ads are restricted to one country ("Home office, Germany"), so read the original ad and ask about contractor engagement before applying. Freelance contracts through SAP partners and agencies are the most common route.
Which SAP module is best for remote work?
No single module guarantees remote work. In the remote ads we reviewed in October 2026, FICO, MM, PP, EWM, SuccessFactors, Basis and BTP or integration roles came up most often. Choose the module closest to your background, because your domain knowledge counts as much as the configuration skills.
Can I get a remote SAP job with no experience?
It's very unlikely. Almost all remote SAP ads we saw asked for at least 2 to 5 years, and most asked for 5 to 10. Beginners usually start with SAP's Young Professionals Program, an in-house SAP support role in Nigeria or a junior role at an SAP partner, then move to remote contracts.
Is SAP certification enough to get hired?
No, but it helps. Certification shows you know the module, while clients pay for project experience. Use SAP Learning's free learning journeys to prepare, check the current exam price on SAP Learning, and pair the certificate with real system work.
How much does a remote SAP consultant earn?
There's no reliable public figure for Nigeria-based SAP contractors. As a benchmark, UK remote or hybrid SAP FI job ads showed a median salary of £75,000 a year on ITJobsWatch in October 2026, and some UK contracts advertised £600 to £750 a day. Nigeria-based contractors are usually offered less than these local UK rates.
What does "outside IR35" mean in an SAP contract ad?
It's a UK tax status for contractors. It means the client treats the engagement as genuine self-employment for UK tax purposes. It shows the role is a UK contract, but it doesn't tell you whether they'll pay someone in Nigeria, so ask the agency.
Do I need to travel for remote SAP projects?
Sometimes. Some SAP projects want consultants on site for workshops or go-live. If an ad mentions travel, ask how often and where, because you may need a UK, Schengen or US visa in time for it.
Key takeaways
- Remote SAP consultant jobs are open to international applicants mainly as freelance contracts through SAP partners and agencies, and most ask for 5 to 10 years of module experience.
- Aggregator tags like "Remote from Anywhere" can conflict with the original ad, so always check the source ad and ask about engaging a contractor in Nigeria.
- UK ads show a median of £75,000 a year for remote or hybrid SAP FI roles (ITJobsWatch, October 2026). That's a benchmark, not a Nigeria-based offer.
- Beginners should get real SAP experience first through SAP's free Young Professionals Program, an in-house role in Nigeria or a junior partner role.
- European clients fit Lagos hours well. Go-live work demands reliable power and two internet connections.
Next steps
If you already have SAP project experience, rewrite your CV around one module and your S/4HANA projects, then search the WorkRemote.ng job listings for "SAP" and read where each role lets applicants live. Save that search with "Get email updates for the latest SAP jobs" to get a free daily digest of new matching jobs. Applying through WorkRemote is always free.
