A remote sales analyst turns a company's sales data into reports, forecasts and recommendations that sales leaders act on. Nigerians can get these jobs when the employer hires in EMEA, Africa or worldwide, and they usually need strong spreadsheet and SQL skills plus a working knowledge of a CRM such as Salesforce or HubSpot.
The role sits in an odd spot. It isn't selling and it isn't pure data science, so job boards scatter it across titles like "sales operations analyst", "revenue operations analyst" and "commercial analyst". That makes it hard to search for, and many people who'd suit it never find it.
This guide explains what remote sales analyst jobs involve day to day, which titles to search for, how to read location rules in the ads, what pay benchmarks look like and what's realistic from Nigeria. It also covers the skills and portfolio work that get you shortlisted. Facts that can change are dated as of October 2026.
Quick answer
Remote sales analyst jobs involve tracking pipeline, forecasting revenue, building dashboards and keeping CRM data clean for a sales team. People in Nigeria can apply when the ad says EMEA, Africa, Nigeria or worldwide, rather than one country such as the US. Employers usually want Excel or Google Sheets, SQL, a BI tool (Power BI, Tableau or Looker), CRM experience and clear written English. Most roles ask for one to three years of analyst or sales operations experience.
What a remote sales analyst actually does
The job is to answer one question for sales leaders: are we going to hit the number, and if not, why not? Everything else follows from that.
A typical week for a sales analyst covers:
- Pipeline reporting: how many deals are open, at what stage, how much they're worth and which are stuck.
- Forecasting: predicting the month's or quarter's revenue from the pipeline and past win rates.
- Performance analysis: quota attainment by rep, team, region or product.
- Territory and quota support: helping managers decide who covers which accounts and what targets are fair.
- CRM data hygiene: finding duplicate accounts, missing close dates and deals marked at the wrong stage.
- Ad hoc questions: "Why did renewals drop in Germany last month?" with an answer due by tomorrow's call.
Canonical's live Sales Operations Analyst ad gives a good picture of the real scope. As of October 2026, it lists improving data quality through opportunity checks, order processing, reporting and data cleansing, supporting dashboards and ad hoc analysis, and monitoring leads, pipeline, sales velocity, productivity and renewals. Expect a mix of analysis and operations admin. Very few sales analyst jobs are 100% modelling.
The metrics you'll live with
Interviews for these roles often test whether you understand the numbers, not only whether you can chart them. Know these before you apply:
| Metric | What it tells the sales team |
|---|---|
| Pipeline coverage | Open pipeline value divided by the remaining target |
| Win rate | Share of closed deals that were won |
| Sales cycle length | Average days from opportunity created to closed |
| Sales velocity | Opportunities × average deal size × win rate, divided by cycle length |
| Quota attainment | Revenue closed against each rep's target |
| Churn and renewal rate | How much recurring revenue was kept or lost |
| Average deal size | Revenue won divided by deals won |
If you can explain why pipeline coverage of 1.5 times target is worrying for a team that wins a third of its deals, you're already ahead of many applicants.
Job titles that mean "sales analyst"
Searching only "sales analyst" misses most of the jobs. The same work appears under several names, and the differences matter for what you'll be doing.
| Title | Usual emphasis |
|---|---|
| Sales Analyst | Reporting, forecasting, performance analysis |
| Sales Operations Analyst | Analysis plus CRM process, orders and data quality |
| Revenue Operations (RevOps) Analyst | Sales, marketing and customer success data together |
| Commercial Analyst | Pricing, margins and deal profitability |
| Sales Planning Analyst | Territories, quotas and capacity models |
| Sales Compensation Analyst | Commission calculations and plan design |
| Business Analyst (Sales) | Requirements and process change for sales systems |
Revenue operations is the fastest-moving of these titles and gets its own guide on finding remote revenue operations jobs. Pricing-heavy commercial roles are covered in our guide to remote pricing analyst jobs.
Sales analyst vs data analyst
A data analyst can work on any data: marketing, product, finance or operations. A sales analyst works on one domain and is expected to know how sales teams run: stages, quotas, commission, territories and the quarter-end rush.
That domain knowledge is why former sales reps and sales coordinators often make good sales analysts once they learn SQL. It also means a general data analyst moving into sales analysis needs to learn the vocabulary. If you're starting from zero, our data analyst career guide covers the core technical path, and this article covers the sales-specific layer on top.
Can Nigerians get remote sales analyst jobs?
Yes, when the employer hires in a region that includes Nigeria and the ad doesn't require work authorisation in a specific country. Many remote sales analyst ads are limited to the US, UK or EU, so the location line is the first thing to read.
Remote ads usually fall into one of these groups:
| What the ad says | Can a Nigeria-based applicant apply? |
|---|---|
| Remote, US only | Usually no; it often needs US work authorisation |
| Remote, UK or EU only | Usually no, for the same reason |
| Home based, EMEA | Often yes; confirm Nigeria in the form or with the recruiter |
| Remote, Africa | Yes, if the country list includes Nigeria |
| Anywhere in the world | Yes, though often as a contractor |
EMEA stands for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Some companies use it loosely to mean "European time zones", so check whether Nigeria appears in the application form's country list before you invest time in the application. Our explainer on what EMEA means in a job ad goes into the edge cases.
A real example: Canonical's home-based sales operations roles
Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, advertises a Sales Operations Analyst role as "Home Based - Americas; Home based - EMEA" and a Senior Sales Operations Analyst role with the same regions, both open as of 27 October 2026. The ads don't name Nigeria directly, so confirm eligibility on the live form before you apply.
The ads are useful for understanding the job even if you don't apply. Points from the analyst ad, as of October 2026:
- Experience: prior work as an analyst in revenue or sales operations, financial analysis, sales analysis or sales order processing.
- Education: an undergraduate degree, preferably in STEM or Economics, "or a compelling alternative path".
- Tools: CRM, sales engagement, data enrichment, configure-price-quote (CPQ), analytics and commissions systems.
- Travel: up to four international trips a year.
- Pay structure: no figure published; the ad says compensation depends on location, experience and performance, with an annual bonus or commission and a $2,000 yearly learning budget.
- Applications: the form states that AI-generated application content disqualifies an application.
Two of these points matter a lot from Nigeria. First, the travel clause means you need a valid international passport and enough time to get visas for company events. Second, "compensation considers location" tells you the offer will likely be set for where you live, not for a US city. Read the full, current ad rather than relying on this summary.
Worldwide listings and contractor roles
Aggregators let you filter for Nigeria, but check what comes back. As of October 2026, Remote Rocketship's Nigeria sales operations page showed only two listings, both open "Anywhere in the World", and neither was a sales analyst title. Worldwide sales analytics work exists, but it is thinner than EMEA work and is more often contract or part-time.
If an offer comes as a contract, read our guide on contractor vs employee arrangements in Nigeria before you sign. It changes your leave, benefits and how tax works.
How much remote sales analysts earn
There's no single published salary for "remote sales analyst from Nigeria". What you can do is use a US benchmark and then adjust honestly.
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics doesn't track "sales analyst" as its own occupation. The closest category is market research analysts, who study business conditions to estimate potential sales of a product or service. The BLS median for that group was $78,760 a year in May 2025. That's about $6,563 a month, or roughly ₦8.9 million a month at ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN NFEM weighted average, 23 October 2026).
Treat that as a ceiling reference, not an expectation. That figure is what employees in the US earn, and remote pay for workers based in Nigeria is usually well below US local pay, especially when an employer uses location-based pay bands, as Canonical's ad says it does. We haven't found a reliable published range for sales analysts hired from Africa, so we won't make one up.
What moves your offer up or down:
- Employment type: a full-time employee through an employer of record usually comes with leave and benefits; a contractor rate may look higher but carries no benefits.
- SQL and BI depth: analysts who can write their own queries and build dashboards earn more than spreadsheet-only reporters.
- Industry: software (SaaS) companies with recurring revenue tend to have larger, better-funded sales operations teams.
- Bonus or commission: some sales analyst packages include a variable element tied to company or team targets.
- Seniority: senior analysts who own forecasting or commission plans are paid well above junior reporting analysts.

Skills and tools employers ask for
The skill list is shorter than many people expect, but the bar on each item is high.
Technical skills
- Spreadsheets at an advanced level. Pivot tables, XLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH, SUMIFS, data validation and clean formatting in Excel or Google Sheets. Many sales leaders still want the answer in a sheet.
- SQL. Joins, GROUP BY, window functions and date handling. Sales data is mostly about time periods: this quarter against last quarter, rolling 90 days, year on year.
- A BI tool. Power BI, Tableau or Looker. Pick one and build properly with it rather than dabbling in all three.
- CRM knowledge. Salesforce and HubSpot dominate. You need to know how opportunities, accounts, stages and reports are structured. Our guide to CRM skills for remote sales professionals covers what to learn.
- Basic statistics for forecasting. Weighted pipeline, moving averages and why a forecast was wrong.
Python is a bonus for most sales analyst jobs, not a requirement. It matters more in revenue operations roles that automate data flows.
Business and communication skills
The Canonical ad asks for "strong communication, negotiation, and influencing skills" and professional English for presentations. That's typical. Sales directors don't read long reports. They want the number, the reason and the action, in three lines on Slack before their 9am call.
Being able to push back politely also matters. A rep will insist a deal is closing this month, and your data says otherwise. Holding that position with evidence, without starting a fight, is part of the job.
Certificates worth considering
No certificate is required for sales analyst jobs, but two are useful for proving tool skills when you lack a job title to point to:
| Certificate | What it proves | Cost (as of October 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate | Spreadsheets, SQL, Tableau and Python basics across 9 courses | $49 a month on Coursera in the US and Canada, may be lower elsewhere; financial aid available |
| Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) | Preparing, modelling and visualising data in Power BI | Exam price depends on the country where it's proctored; free renewal every 12 months |
Coursera says most learners finish the Google certificate for under $300. The PL-300 exam is 100 minutes, proctored and booked through Pearson VUE. Check the live price for Nigeria on Microsoft's page before you budget for it.
How to get your first remote sales analyst job
Most hiring managers want proof that you've worked with sales data before. If you haven't had the title, build the proof.
- Pick your entry route. Sales reps, sales coordinators, SDRs and order-processing staff already know the domain; they need SQL and BI. Data analysts already have the tools; they need sales vocabulary and metrics.
- Learn one stack well. Google Sheets or Excel, SQL and either Power BI or Tableau. Salesforce's free Trailhead modules teach CRM structure.
- Build one serious sales portfolio project (see the example below), published as a dashboard plus a one-page written summary.
- Rewrite your CV around sales outcomes. "Built weekly pipeline report used by 12 reps" beats "Proficient in Excel". Put numbers on everything.
- Search by every title in the table above and filter by location: EMEA, Africa, Nigeria, worldwide.
- Apply to remote sales operations roles inside Nigeria-friendly companies too. African fintech and SaaS companies with international customers sometimes hire analysts remotely, and that experience transfers.
- Prepare for a take-home task. Many analyst processes include a data exercise. Practise answering with a chart, three findings and one recommendation.
Example (hypothetical): a portfolio project that mirrors the real job. Download a public sample CRM or sales dataset (Kaggle has several). Load it into a free database such as PostgreSQL or Google BigQuery's free tier. Write SQL to calculate win rate, average deal size, cycle length and pipeline coverage by region and quarter. Build a one-page Power BI dashboard. Then write a 200-word memo to an imaginary sales director: "Q3 pipeline covers 1.4 times the remaining target; EMEA win rate fell from 31% to 24%, driven by deals over $50,000 stalling at the proposal stage. Recommend a deal review for the 9 largest open opportunities." The memo is what impresses, because that's what the job produces every week.
If you have no analyst or sales experience at all, start with our guide to remote data analyst jobs for beginners. A sales analyst role is usually a second step, not a first job.
Working as a sales analyst from Nigeria: the practical side
Sales analysis runs on deadlines. Monday pipeline meetings, month-end close and quarter-end forecasts don't move because NEPA took light. Plan for that before you're hired.
Time zones
Sales teams meet early in their own day, so your hours follow theirs:
- UK teams: London is on GMT from 25 October 2026, so a 9am London meeting is 10am in Lagos. In summer (BST) the clocks match.
- European teams (CET): same time as Lagos in winter, one hour ahead in summer.
- US East Coast teams: 6 hours behind Lagos from 1 November 2026 (EST), so a 9am New York pipeline call is 3pm in Lagos. In summer it's 2pm.
- US West Coast teams: 9 hours behind in winter, so their afternoon forecast reviews land late at night in Lagos.
EMEA roles are the most comfortable fit from Nigeria. A Nigeria-based analyst supporting a US team can work well, because reports can be ready before the US day starts, but expect some late evenings at quarter end.
Power, internet and data security
You'll be running dashboards, video calls and often a company VPN. Have an inverter or solar backup sized for a laptop and router for a full working day, plus two internet options (for example, fibre or Starlink as primary and a MiFi or phone hotspot as backup). Sales data includes customer names and deal values, so expect strict rules on devices, password managers and no shared computers.
Getting paid and tax
Employees hired through an employer of record are usually paid by bank transfer, sometimes in dollars to a domiciliary account. Contractors often receive payment through platforms like Deel or Payoneer. Our guide to receiving dollar payments in Nigeria compares the options and fees. Income earned from abroad is still relevant to Nigerian tax; read how tax works for remote workers in Nigeria before your first payment arrives.
Mistakes that keep applicants from getting shortlisted
- Applying to US-only roles. If the ad says "must be authorised to work in the US", a Nigeria-based application is usually rejected automatically, however good it is.
- A data analyst CV with no sales words. Recruiters scan for pipeline, forecast, quota, CRM and Salesforce. If none of those appear, you look like the wrong profile.
- Dashboards without conclusions. A pretty chart with no "so what" reads as junior work.
- Using AI to write the whole application. Some employers, Canonical among them, say plainly that AI-generated application content disqualifies you. Write your own answers.
- Ignoring the travel clause. If the role needs international travel and your passport is expired, fix that early.
- Paying anyone for a "guaranteed" sales analyst placement. Real employers don't charge applicants. Our guide to spotting remote job scams in Nigeria lists the warning signs.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a degree to become a remote sales analyst?
Not always, but many employers prefer one. Canonical's ad, for example, asks for an undergraduate degree, preferably in STEM or Economics, while accepting a "compelling alternative path". Without a degree, a strong portfolio, a certificate such as PL-300 and sales or operations experience carry more weight.
Is a sales analyst job a sales job?
No. Sales analysts don't usually carry a quota or talk to customers. They support the people who sell, by reporting, forecasting and fixing data. Some packages include a bonus linked to team results, but your main job is analysis, not closing deals.
Can I become a remote sales analyst with no experience?
It's hard, but not impossible. Most remote ads ask for one to three years of analyst, sales operations or related experience. The realistic routes are moving sideways from a sales, sales support or data analyst job, or starting in a local or African company and moving to an international remote role later.
What's the difference between a sales analyst and a RevOps analyst?
A sales analyst focuses on sales team data. A revenue operations analyst looks at sales, marketing and customer success data together and often owns the systems that connect them. The job ads overlap heavily, so search for both titles.
Which is better to learn first, Power BI or Tableau?
Either works, and the choice matters less than getting good at one. Power BI is common in companies that already use Microsoft 365, and Microsoft offers the PL-300 certification for it. Check five or ten target job ads and learn whichever appears more often.
How much does a remote sales analyst earn from Nigeria?
There's no reliable published range specifically for Nigeria-based sales analysts. As a reference point, the BLS median for US market research analysts, the closest tracked occupation, was $78,760 a year in May 2025. Remote offers to Nigeria-based workers are usually lower than US local pay, and many employers set pay by location.
Do remote sales analyst jobs require working at night?
It depends on where the sales team sits. EMEA teams work roughly Lagos hours. US teams start their day in your afternoon, so expect evening meetings, especially around month and quarter end.
Key takeaways
- A remote sales analyst reports on pipeline, forecasts revenue, analyses performance and keeps CRM data clean for a sales team.
- The same work appears as sales operations analyst, RevOps analyst, commercial analyst and sales planning analyst, so search all of them.
- Nigerians can apply when the ad says EMEA, Africa, Nigeria or worldwide; confirm Nigeria on the live form.
- Employers want advanced spreadsheets, SQL, one BI tool, CRM knowledge and clear, confident written English.
- US salary data is a benchmark only; offers to Nigeria-based workers are usually lower and often location-based.
- A sales-specific portfolio project with a written recommendation is the strongest proof if you lack the job title.
