Remote data analyst salary in Nigeria
A Nigeria-based data analyst working remotely for a foreign company earns a median base salary of about $26,600 a year, according to payroll provider Plane, with most people between about $7,000 and $70,000. That is well below US pay for the same title (Indeed's US job-ad average is $87,080), but several times what most local roles pay.
Where you land in that range depends far more on your SQL depth, the company's home country and how you negotiate than on certificates.

Where these figures come from
- Entry
- Plane's 10th percentile ($7,235) to median ($26,609) for remote data analysts based in Nigeria, rounded. First remote jobs, often with African or Asian companies or as Upwork contracts, sit in the lower half.
- Senior
- Plane's median ($26,609) to 90th percentile ($70,446) for Nigeria, rounded. Analysts with 2-4 years usually start near the median; the top of the band is senior analysts at US and European companies. Plane does not publish its sample size or method, so treat these as a guide.
How that compares
Reference points from other markets. Remote pay for people in Nigeria is usually below US and UK local pay.
- US average base, data analyst (Indeed job ads) (indeed.com)$87,080 a year
- US median, data scientists (BLS, May 2025) (bls.gov)$120,230 a year
- UK median, data analyst job ads (ITJobsWatch) (itjobswatch.co.uk)£56,125 a year
- UK median, work-from-home data analyst ads (ITJobsWatch) (itjobswatch.co.uk)£50,000 a year
- Nigeria local average base (Payscale, self-reported) (payscale.com)₦905,000 a year
What affects your pay
Where the employer is based. US and UK companies pay more than African, Asian or Eastern European ones, but they also test harder. Even a generous offer to a Lagos contractor usually costs a UK company far less than a London hire on the ITJobsWatch median of £56,125 a year, which gives you room to negotiate.
Employee or contractor. Most Nigeria-based analysts are contractors. You get the headline rate but no pension, health insurance or paid leave unless the contract says so, so compare offers on what you take home after fees and unpaid days.
Technical depth. Analysts who stop at Excel and drag-and-drop dashboards cluster at the bottom of the range. Strong SQL, Python, dbt and experiment analysis move you towards analytics engineer and product analyst pay.
Industry. Fintech, SaaS and e-commerce analytics pay better than NGO reporting or general admin-heavy "data" roles.
A note on local pay. Payscale's Nigerian figure comes from 169 self-reported profiles and includes some implausible entries, so it likely understates current naira pay. Treat it as a rough floor rather than a market rate.
Negotiating your offer
Ask for the budget before you name a number: "What range have you set for this role?" works in writing and on calls. Many remote employers have a band and will tell you.
If you must name a figure, give a monthly dollar range based on the role's level and the company's country, and make the bottom of your range a number you'd actually accept. For a mid-level role with a UK or US startup, opening somewhat above Plane's Nigerian median (about $2,200 a month) is reasonable if you pass their tests comfortably.
Negotiate the extras that cost them little: a paid trial week instead of an unpaid test, an internet and power allowance, a laptop, or a review after six months. Get the currency, payment date, payment method and who covers transfer fees in writing.
Questions people ask
How much does a remote data analyst earn in Nigeria?
About $26,600 a year at the median, based on Plane's figures for Nigeria-based remote data analysts. That's roughly $2,200 a month before any fees. Juniors often start much lower and experienced analysts at US companies can earn $60,000 or more.
Do foreign companies pay Nigerians the same as US data analysts?
Rarely. Most adjust pay to location, so Nigeria-based analysts usually earn a fraction of the US average of $87,080 shown in Indeed's job ads. Some companies with global pay bands do pay the same, and those roles are very competitive.
Is a remote data analyst job better paid than a local one?
Usually yes, by a wide margin, even at the entry level. The trade-off is that you are often a contractor with no pension or health cover, and you carry the cost of power and internet yourself.
What should I charge on Upwork as a beginner data analyst?
There is no reliable public figure for Nigerian beginners, so look at what similar profiles with a few reviews charge in the categories you target. Start modestly to get your first reviews, then raise your rate every few contracts.
