Remote Operations Analyst Jobs for Beginners: How to Get One From Nigeria
What remote operations analysts do, which beginner roles are open to Nigerians, the skills real ads ask for, pay in dollars and naira, and how to get hired.

Yes, a beginner in Nigeria can get a remote operations analyst job. The catch is that very few ads are labelled "entry-level operations analyst". Most first jobs come through roles called operations associate, KYC or CDD operations analyst, support operations, or CRM administrator, and they ask for 0 to 3 years of related work.
That matters because operations analysts sit close to how a company actually runs. They check that orders, payments, customer tickets and sign-ups move without delays, find where things break, and fix the process with data. A spreadsheet-strong person who has worked in a bank branch, a call centre or an admin desk often already has half the skills.
This guide explains what the job is and which job titles to search for. It also covers what real ads open to Nigeria asked for in October 2026, what to learn first, what beginners are paid, and a step-by-step plan for landing a remote business operations job without relocating.
Quick answer
A remote operations analyst monitors and improves a company's day-to-day processes using spreadsheets, SQL and dashboards. Beginners from Nigeria usually get in through operations associate, KYC/AML operations, support operations or CRM admin roles that accept 0 to 3 years' experience. Learn Excel or Google Sheets well, basic SQL and one dashboard tool, build one process-improvement project, and target ads that name Nigeria, Africa or worldwide.
What a remote operations analyst actually does
An operations analyst finds out why work is slow, costly or error-prone, and recommends a fix backed by numbers. "Operations" means the repeatable work a company does every day: onboarding customers, processing payments, resolving tickets, shipping orders, approving accounts.
A typical week for a junior remote operations analyst might include:
- Pulling yesterday's numbers (tickets closed, payments failed, accounts approved) into a Google Sheet or a dashboard
- Spotting a spike, for example failed card payments jumping on Monday, and tracing the cause
- Writing or updating a standard operating procedure (SOP) so the team handles a case the same way every time
- Cleaning messy data in a CRM such as HubSpot or Salesforce
- Joining a short video call with the operations manager to agree what to fix first
- Reviewing cases by hand in regulated businesses like fintechs (KYC checks, fraud alerts, chargebacks)
The work is mostly written and asynchronous, which is why it suits remote teams. You communicate through Slack, Notion or Google Docs, and your output is a sheet, a dashboard or a short written recommendation.
Business operations vs operations analyst: is a remote business operations job the same thing?
Mostly, yes. "Business operations" (often shortened to BizOps) is the team. "Operations analyst" is one of the jobs on that team. When a company advertises a remote business operations job, it is usually hiring an analyst, associate or specialist to keep internal processes running and measured. Larger companies split the work by area: sales operations, revenue operations, support operations, finance operations, people operations. The beginner skills are the same in all of them. You need spreadsheets, clean data, clear writing and a habit of documenting how work gets done.
When you search, use both terms. Many ads use "business operations associate" for what is really a junior operations analyst job.
How it differs from data analyst and business analyst roles
| Role | Main question | Typical output |
|---|---|---|
| Operations analyst | Why is this process slow or failing? | SOPs, KPI tracker, process fix |
| Data analyst | What does the data say? | Reports, dashboards, analysis |
| Business analyst | What should we build or change? | Requirements, process maps |
| Operations research analyst | What is the optimal decision mathematically? | Models, simulations |
The lines blur in real ads. If you prefer pure analysis, read our guide to becoming a remote data analyst. If you lean towards requirements and stakeholder work, see how to become a remote business analyst from Nigeria.
Are remote operations analyst jobs really open to beginners?
Honest answer: true "no experience" operations analyst ads are rare. When we looked at live listings in October 2026, most analyst-titled operations roles asked for 1 to 3 years in a related job. Some wanted 2 years or more of tool experience.
What beginners can realistically target:
- Operations assistant or associate roles. These are coordination-heavy and often junior-tagged. They are the closest thing to a trainee route. Our planned guide on becoming a remote operations assistant covers this step.
- KYC, CDD and AML operations roles at fintechs. Fintechs serving Nigerian customers hire these remotely from Nigeria. Bank or fintech experience counts heavily.
- Support operations. Customer support agents who start tracking ticket data often move into support ops or "CX operations" analyst roles.
- CRM or sales operations admin. HubSpot or Salesforce administration is an ops role with a clear certification path.
"Beginner" in this field usually means "new to the analyst title", not "new to work". Your banking hall, call centre, NYSC posting or VA work counts if you can show you improved a process or tracked numbers. If you have no work history at all, start with our guide to remote jobs for Nigerians with no experience, then come back to this path.
Types of entry-level operations roles you'll see in remote ads
| Job title in ads | What you'd do | Common tools |
|---|---|---|
| Operations associate | Coordinate tasks, track KPIs, update SOPs | Google Sheets, Notion, Asana |
| KYC / CDD operations analyst | Verify customer identity and documents | Internal case tools, Sheets |
| AML or fraud operations analyst | Review alerts, chargebacks, suspicious activity | Sheets, SQL, Metabase |
| Support operations analyst | Measure ticket volume, response times, quality | Zendesk, Intercom, Looker Studio |
| Sales / RevOps admin | Keep CRM data clean, build reports and workflows | HubSpot, Salesforce |
| Business operations analyst | Cross-team reporting and process fixes | Excel, SQL, Power BI or Tableau |

What real ads open to Nigeria asked for (October 2026)
These examples come from employer job boards and an aggregator we opened on 27 October 2026. Hiring changes quickly, so treat them as a picture of what employers ask for, not as open vacancies. Always confirm on the live ad.
Fintech operations: LemFi's AML Operations Analyst (Fraud)
LemFi, a payments company, posted an AML Operations Analyst, Fraud role on 21 October 2026. It was listed as full-time, remote, with the location set to Nigeria (checked via LemFi's public job board feed, as of October 2026). The ad asked for:
- 1 to 3 years of fraud experience at a fintech, payments company or bank
- Strong written and spoken English
- Good Google Sheets or Excel skills, with SQL or Metabase as a plus
- KYC and ID verification knowledge as a plus, and CFE, CAMS or ICA certification as a plus
- Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays, for a 24/7 operation
The ad also described the hiring process: a role-based skills assessment, a 45-minute hiring manager interview and a 45-minute "bar raiser" interview. Expect something similar elsewhere. A practical test is now normal for ops roles.
What this tells a beginner: a year in a Nigerian bank's fraud desk, a fintech support queue or a KYC team is the experience that gets you shortlisted. Excel is the baseline, and SQL puts you ahead.
CRM operations: Scale Army's HubSpot RevOps Administrator
Scale Army Careers listed a HubSpot RevOps Administrator contract role, published 20 October 2026, in its Operations department. The listed locations included Abuja, Nigeria, alongside Egypt, Argentina, Ethiopia and South Africa (as of October 2026). It asked for 2 or more years of hands-on HubSpot administration and required availability from 9am to 5pm US Pacific time.
That second point matters. 9am to 5pm Pacific is 5pm to 1am in Lagos while the US is on daylight saving time. From 1 November 2026, when Pacific is 9 hours behind, it becomes 6pm to 2am. Plenty of Nigerians do these hours, but go in with your eyes open.
What an aggregator showed for Africa-wide operations roles
The Remote Rocketship page for remote operations jobs in Africa on 27 October 2026 listed, among others:
- An LemFi CDD Operations Analyst role, Nigeria, remote, tagged junior
- A Scale Army Operations Assistant contract, open to Nigeria among other countries, showing $1,000 to $1,200 a month
- A Drop Zero Digital Operations Associate role for South Africa only, showing $12,000 to $18,000 a year
Aggregators copy ads and can be out of date. Use them to discover employers, then apply on the employer's own page. Before you invest time in an application, follow our planned checklist on how to verify whether a remote job accepts Nigerian residents.
Skills and tools to learn first
Here is a sensible order for someone starting from zero. You don't need all of it before applying. Stages 1 and 2 plus one project will get you interviews for associate-level roles.
Stage 1: spreadsheets and clear writing (weeks 1 to 4)
- Excel or Google Sheets: XLOOKUP or VLOOKUP, pivot tables, SUMIFS and COUNTIFS, conditional formatting, data validation, basic charts
- Writing an SOP: numbered steps, who does what, what "done" looks like
- Summarising a problem in five lines for a busy manager
Stage 2: SQL and one dashboard tool (weeks 5 to 10)
- SQL basics: SELECT, WHERE, GROUP BY, JOINs. Free practice sites and the many free tutorials online are enough to start.
- One BI tool: Looker Studio (free with a Google account), Power BI Desktop (free for Windows) or Tableau Public (free)
A structured option is the Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate on Coursera. As of October 2026, Coursera lists it as nine beginner-level courses that need no degree or experience and cover spreadsheets, SQL, Python and Tableau. Coursera says it takes under six months at under 10 hours a week. In the US and Canada it costs $49 a month after a 7-day free trial, and Coursera notes prices may be lower in other countries and financial aid is available. Check the price shown to you in Nigeria before you subscribe.
Stage 3: one domain (ongoing)
Pick the area you're closest to and learn its language:
- Fintech/banking: KYC, CDD, AML, chargebacks, SLA (service-level agreement)
- Customer support: first response time, CSAT, ticket backlog, Zendesk or Intercom reports
- Sales: pipeline stages, lead routing, HubSpot or Salesforce admin (both offer free official training)
- E-commerce/logistics: order fulfilment rate, returns, inventory accuracy
Skills that separate good applicants
- Process mapping: drawing a "before and after" flow in a free tool like draw.io
- Root-cause thinking: asking "why" until you reach something you can fix
- Written async communication: your manager may be in London or Toronto and asleep while you work
How much do beginner operations analysts earn remotely?
Pay depends on the employer's location and on how you're hired: as a local employee, an employer-of-record (EOR) employee or a contractor. Here are the reference points we could verify:
| Source and scope | Figure | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Payscale, Nigeria, operations analyst (updated Dec 2025) | ₦1,969,067 a year average base | Self-reported, 7 profiles, mostly local jobs |
| Remote Rocketship, Operations Assistant open to Nigeria (Oct 2026) | $1,000 to $1,200 a month | Range shown in a contract ad |
| Remote Rocketship, Operations Associate, South Africa only (Oct 2026) | $12,000 to $18,000 a year | Range shown in an ad |
| US BLS, operations research analysts (May 2025) | $88,940 a year median | US local benchmark only |
What these mean in naira, at WorkRemote's house rate of ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN NFEM weighted average, 23 October 2026):
- $1,000 to $1,200 a month is about ₦1.36 million to ₦1.63 million a month, before fees and tax.
- $12,000 to $18,000 a year works out to $1,000 to $1,500 a month, about ₦1.36 million to ₦2.04 million a month.
- The Payscale Nigeria figure of ₦1,969,067 is a yearly figure, roughly ₦164,000 a month. Payscale shows a range of ₦400,000 to ₦4 million a year, from a small sample.
The gap explains why so many Nigerians chase remote ops roles. A junior remote role paid in dollars can pay more in a month than local ops analyst roles pay in a year. It's also why these remote roles attract many applicants.
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the median for operations research analysts at $88,940 a year (May 2025). It says a bachelor's degree is the typical entry requirement and projects 12% growth from 2025 to 2035. That occupation is more mathematical than most business operations jobs, and it reflects US local pay. Remote employers hiring from Nigeria rarely pay US local rates, so treat it as a ceiling, not a target.
For what drives these differences, see our planned piece on how international companies set salaries for remote employees. For the role you might grow into, our operations manager salary guide shows pay further up the ladder.
How to get a remote business operations job from Nigeria: step by step
This is the plan we'd give someone with a degree or HND, a laptop and some work history that isn't called "operations".
- Choose your lane. Pick one of fintech ops, support ops, sales/CRM ops or general business ops, based on your past work. A former bank teller should target KYC/CDD. A former call centre agent should target support ops.
- Get Stage 1 and 2 skills to a usable level. Aim to build a pivot table and write a GROUP BY query without searching for the syntax.
- Build one process-improvement project (see the example below) and publish it as a short Google Doc or Notion page with a dashboard link.
- Rewrite your CV around processes and numbers. Every bullet should say what you improved, by how much, and with what tool.
- Search with the right titles. Use "operations associate", "business operations", "operations analyst", "KYC analyst", "support operations" and "RevOps", and filter by Nigeria, Africa, EMEA or worldwide.
- Read the location line first. "Remote, US" or "Remote, UK" usually means you must already live or have the right to work there. "Nigeria", "Africa", "EMEA" or "anywhere" is where you apply.
- Apply on the employer's own careers page, and send a short, specific note to the hiring manager on LinkedIn where you can identify them.
- Prepare for the skills test. Expect a spreadsheet task, a case review or a "how would you fix this process" written exercise.
- Check the offer properly: contract type, currency, payment method, hours and notice period.
Example (hypothetical): a beginner portfolio project
Adaeze worked two years as a customer service officer at a Lagos bank. She downloads a free public dataset of customer complaints and builds:
- A cleaned Google Sheet with complaint categories, dates and resolution times
- A Looker Studio dashboard showing average resolution time by category and week
- A one-page write-up: "Card-related complaints take 3 times longer to close than other types. Most delay happens at the hand-off to the cards team. Proposed fix: a shared SOP and a 24-hour escalation rule."
- A before-and-after process map
That's one project, two weeks of evenings, and it shows every core operations analyst skill. The numbers in her write-up come from the dataset, not invented performance claims, so she can explain them in interview.
Example (hypothetical): turning old work into operations analyst CV bullets
Weak: "Handled customer complaints in a busy branch."
Stronger: "Tracked 40+ weekly complaints in Excel by type and resolution time; flagged that card disputes caused most delays and helped introduce a hand-off checklist used by the branch team."
Only write numbers you can stand behind. Interviewers for ops roles ask how you measured things.

Nigeria-specific things to sort out before you start
Working hours and shifts
Operations roles often follow the business, not your preference. From Lagos (WAT, UTC+1, no daylight saving):
- UK or European employers: a 9am to 5pm UK day is 10am to 6pm in Lagos in winter (from 25 October 2026) and the same hours in summer. Central European time matches Lagos in winter.
- US East Coast: 9am to 5pm Eastern is 2pm to 10pm in Lagos in summer and 3pm to 11pm in winter (from 1 November 2026).
- US West Coast: late evening into the early morning, as in the HubSpot example above.
- 24/7 fintech operations: rotating shifts including weekends and public holidays.
Power and internet
Ops work means live dashboards, shared sheets and calls with your manager. Missing a shift because NEPA took light or your network dropped looks bad quickly in a probation period. Before you accept, set up an inverter or solar backup (or a generator for long outages) and two internet sources, for example a MiFi and a phone hotspot on a different network.
Contract type, payment and tax
You'll usually be hired as a contractor (invoicing monthly) or through an EOR platform such as Deel or Remote as an employee. The difference affects leave, notice and who handles tax. Our guide to contractor vs employee arrangements when a foreign company hires you explains it. For getting paid, see how to receive dollar payments in Nigeria, and for your obligations under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, read tax for remote workers in Nigeria.
Identity checks
Fintech ops employers will run background and identity checks once they make an offer, and you may need your NIN and BVN for local payroll or EOR onboarding. Share these only after you have a verified offer from a real company.
Common mistakes and red flags
Mistakes we see beginners make:
- Applying to "Remote, US" ads. Most of these require US residence or work authorisation, however good your CV is.
- Listing tools without proof. "Proficient in SQL" means little without a project or test result.
- Using only the exact title "operations analyst". You'll miss most of the junior roles.
- Writing duties instead of results. Ops hiring managers want to see what you changed.
- Ignoring the hours line. Accepting a US Pacific-hours role and burning out in month two helps nobody.
Red flags in "operations" ads:
- Any request to pay for training, equipment, a "processing fee" or a background check
- "Operations" roles that turn out to be reshipping parcels or moving money through your account. These can expose you to fraud or money-laundering charges.
- Interviews held only on Telegram or WhatsApp, with no company email or video call
- Pay that's far above the ranges in this guide for a role needing no skills

Frequently asked questions
Can I become a remote operations analyst with no experience?
Sometimes, but rarely straight away. Most analyst-titled ads we saw in October 2026 asked for 1 to 3 years in a related job. Start with operations assistant or associate roles, KYC/CDD roles or support operations, and build one portfolio project to show analyst skills.
What is the difference between a business operations job and an operations analyst job?
They are usually the same work under different names. "Business operations" is the team, and operations analyst, associate and specialist are jobs on that team. All of them involve tracking metrics, documenting processes and fixing what slows the business down.
Do I need a degree to get a remote operations analyst job?
Not always. Many remote ads ask for skills and related experience rather than a specific degree, although some employers, especially banks, still list a bachelor's degree. The US BLS lists a bachelor's as typical for operations research analysts, which is a more mathematical role than most business operations jobs.
Which tools should a beginner operations analyst learn first?
Learn Excel or Google Sheets first, then basic SQL, then one dashboard tool such as Looker Studio, Power BI or Tableau. If you're targeting sales operations, add HubSpot or Salesforce. For support ops, learn Zendesk or Intercom reporting.
How much does a junior remote operations analyst earn from Nigeria?
Ads we saw in October 2026 that were open to Nigeria or Africa showed roughly $1,000 to $1,500 a month for junior operations roles. That is about ₦1.36 million to ₦2.04 million at ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN rate, 23 October 2026). Pay varies widely by employer and contract type, so check each ad.
Are remote operations analyst jobs night shifts?
Some are. US-facing roles often run from late afternoon into the night in Lagos, and 24/7 fintech operations use rotating shifts that include weekends and public holidays. UK and European employers usually overlap well with Nigerian daytime hours.
Is fintech the best place for a beginner operations analyst in Nigeria?
It is one of the most accessible routes, because fintechs serving Nigerian customers hire KYC, CDD, fraud and payments operations staff remotely from Nigeria. If you have bank or fintech experience, start here. Others may find support operations or CRM admin an easier first step.
Key takeaways
- Remote operations analysts track and improve how a company runs, using spreadsheets, SQL, dashboards and written SOPs.
- True "no experience" operations analyst ads are rare. The realistic beginner routes are operations associate, KYC/CDD/AML operations, support operations and CRM admin roles.
- Real ads open to Nigeria in October 2026 asked for Excel or Sheets, often SQL, 1 to 3 years of related work, and in some cases night or weekend shifts.
- Junior remote ops roles open to Nigeria or Africa showed about $1,000 to $1,500 a month, far above the self-reported local average for operations analysts.
- One documented process-improvement project and results-based CV bullets do more than a list of tools.
- Read the location and hours lines in every ad before applying, and never pay to get a job.
