Yes, a beginner in Nigeria can get a remote marketing coordinator job. But fewer ads are truly entry-level than the job boards suggest, and many of them are closed to applicants in Nigeria. Many "coordinator" ads ask for two years of experience. Many others are limited to the US, Europe or Latin America.

This guide is for Nigerians looking for entry-level remote marketing coordinator jobs. It explains what the job involves day to day, and how to read an ad so you can tell in a minute whether you can apply from Lagos, Enugu or Kano. It covers which tools and free certificates employers mention, what pay looks like (with honest benchmarks), and how to build a work sample that proves you can coordinate when you have no marketing job on your CV yet.

We opened live ads in October 2026 to check what employers actually ask for. Where an ad didn't allow Nigeria, we say so.

Quick answer

A remote marketing coordinator keeps campaigns on schedule. The job covers content calendars, task tracking, social and email scheduling, simple reports and chasing deliverables. Entry-level remote openings that accept Nigeria-based applicants exist but are limited. Many ads restrict location or ask for 2+ years. Your best chance comes from three things: a concrete work sample, free certificates such as HubSpot Academy's, a CV that shows organisation, and applying only to ads that say worldwide, Africa, EMEA or Nigeria.

What a remote marketing coordinator actually does

A marketing coordinator is the person who makes sure marketing work gets done on time and in the right order. Managers and specialists decide what to do. The coordinator tracks it, schedules it, follows up and reports back.

The duties in real ads are very consistent. A Marketing Coordinator ad from Globaltize, a US marketing agency, listed on Arc.dev, describes the job as coordinating timelines, deliverables and follow-ups across campaigns. It also includes managing task tracking, keeping calendars and documentation up to date, managing CRM data and helping with reporting. A Nigerian ad, LEAM Consulting's remote Digital Marketing/Social Media Marketing Coordinator role (posted 2 October 2026, closed 15 October 2026), adds content creation, social channel management and tracking leads, registrations and campaign results.

In practice, a typical week usually includes:

  • Building and updating the content calendar (what goes out, where, when, who owns it)
  • Scheduling social posts and email campaigns once they're approved
  • Moving tasks along in a project tool and chasing the designer or writer who is late
  • Pulling numbers into a weekly report: clicks, sign-ups, open rates, leads
  • Keeping files, brand assets and briefs organised so anyone can find them
  • Taking notes in meetings and sending the action points afterwards

How coordinator roles differ from similar titles

Job titles in marketing overlap, so search for all of them. This table shows how they usually differ in ads. Individual companies use the titles loosely.

TitleMain focusTypical experience asked
Marketing assistantAdmin and support tasksOften 0 to 1 year
Marketing coordinatorSchedules, tracking, follow-up0 to 2 years, sometimes more
Marketing operations assistantTools, CRM, data hygieneSome tool experience
Social media coordinatorPosting and communityPortfolio of posts
Marketing specialistOwns a channel (SEO, ads, email)Usually 2+ years

If you prefer owning one channel to coordinating several, read our guide to becoming a remote digital marketing specialist or the social media manager career path. Coordinators who enjoy the tools side often move into remote marketing operations.

How many entry-level remote coordinator jobs are open to Nigerians?

Honest answer: not many at any one time, and you have to filter hard. Here is what we found when we checked in October 2026.

  • Location limits are common. The INFUSE careers board on Greenhouse listed a Marketing Campaign Coordinator (Junior Specialist) role based in Ukraine. Its remote contract support roles were open to a named list of countries that included South Africa but not Nigeria. Many companies work like this: they hire only in countries where they can pay contractors or employ people legally.
  • "Coordinator" doesn't always mean beginner. The Globaltize Marketing Coordinator ad mentioned above was marked Remote (LATAM) and asked for 2+ years of marketing coordination or similar experience.
  • Worldwide roles exist but get tagged inconsistently. Remote Rocketship's Nigeria marketing page listed a part-time Marketing & Outreach Coordinator at 20four7VA open to "Anywhere in the World" in late September 2026, but tagged it mid-level and senior.
  • Nigerian companies hire remote coordinators too. The LEAM Consulting role was fully remote and based in Nigeria. Local remote roles pay in naira and usually less, but they count as real experience for your next application.

Search widely, and read past the job title before you write anything.

How to tell in one minute whether you can apply from Nigeria

Before you tailor a CV, check four things in the ad. Doing this first saves you hours on applications that a recruiter will reject automatically.

  1. The location line. "Remote (US)", "Remote, Canada" or "Remote (LATAM)" means no. "Remote, EMEA" (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) may include Nigeria, but many EMEA employers only hire in certain countries. "Worldwide", "Anywhere" or "Africa" are the good signs. Our guides on what EMEA means in a job ad and what "worldwide remote" really means go into the details.
  2. Work authorisation wording. "Must be authorised to work in the US" or "right to work in the UK" rules you out unless you already hold that status.
  3. The country list in the application form. Greenhouse and Lever forms often have a country drop-down or a "Where are you based?" question. If Nigeria isn't on it, believe the form.
  4. Required hours. "Must overlap with US Pacific business hours" is possible from Nigeria, but it means late nights (see the time-zone section below).

If all four pass, the ad is worth a tailored application. If one is unclear, apply anyway, and say in one line of your cover note where you're based and which hours you can cover.

Skills employers look for in a beginner coordinator

Coordination is a skill you can prove without a marketing job title. Employers want evidence of five abilities.

Organisation you can show

Ads talk about workflows, calendars, timelines and task tracking. Your CV should give examples: running a church programme schedule, organising a departmental conference, managing an NYSC CDS project, keeping a family business's stock records. Say what you organised, how many people or tasks were involved, and the result.

Clear written English

Remote teams run on written updates. Ads for this role regularly mention follow-ups, documentation and client communication. Short, specific messages ("Banner v2 is in the Drive folder; waiting on copy from Ada, due Thursday") read as competent.

Comfort with the tools

The Globaltize ad named Asana, ClickUp, Monday, Notion, Go High Level, ChatGPT and CRM platforms. You don't need all of them. Pick one project tool (Trello, Asana or ClickUp all have free plans) and one scheduling or email tool (Meta Business Suite, Buffer or Mailchimp), and use them on your practice project so you can talk about them honestly.

Basic reporting

Coordinators pull numbers more often than they analyse them. Learn to export data, put it in Google Sheets, make a simple chart and write two sentences on what changed and why. Google Analytics and the native analytics in Instagram, LinkedIn and Mailchimp are enough to practise on.

Content basics

Many coordinator roles, especially at small companies, ask you to create as well as schedule. The LEAM Consulting ad asked for graphics and short-form video as well as writing. Being able to use Canva and CapCut puts you ahead of applicants who can't.

Free certificates that are worth adding

Certificates won't get you hired by themselves, but they do two useful things: they teach you the vocabulary in the ads, and they give a recruiter a reason to believe your self-taught claims.

  • HubSpot Academy. HubSpot describes its academy as completely free and online, with free certifications. Marketing ones include Inbound (about 3 hours), Digital Marketing (about 3 hours), Social Media Marketing (about 5 hours) and Content Marketing (about 8 hours), as of October 2026. For a coordinator, Digital Marketing plus Social Media Marketing is a sensible pair.
  • Google Skillshop. Google's training site offers Google Ads certification and Google Analytics training. Check the current cost and exam format on Skillshop before you start.

Put certificates in a short "Certifications" section on your CV with the year. Don't let them push your work sample off the first page. Our guide to digital marketing certifications for remote jobs compares more options.

Build one coordination work sample before you apply

Most beginners show a few Canva designs. A coordinator should show a campaign that was planned, scheduled, tracked and reported. This is the most useful thing you can do this month.

Example (hypothetical): Tolu, a recent graduate in Ibadan, offers to run a two-week Instagram and WhatsApp campaign for her aunt's catering business, free of charge, in exchange for permission to show the results. She builds a Trello board with a card for every post, its due date and its owner. She writes a one-page brief: goal, audience, offer and how she will measure it. She schedules ten posts in Meta Business Suite and tracks enquiries in a Google Sheet. At the end she writes a one-page report: what went out, what got the most responses, what she would change. She turns this into a three-page PDF case study and links it from her CV.

That sample answers the question every hiring manager asks about a beginner coordinator: "Will this person keep things moving without me checking?" For more ways to build proof without paid clients, see how to build a digital marketing portfolio without clients.

What to include in your case study:

SectionWhat to show
BriefGoal, audience, timeline
PlanScreenshot of calendar or task board
ExecutionScheduled posts, emails, assets
ResultsNumbers, even small ones
LessonsWhat you'd change next time

Pay: what to expect, with honest benchmarks

We couldn't find a reliable published dataset on what Nigeria-based remote marketing coordinators earn. Most ads we opened, including the worldwide ones, didn't show pay. So here are the benchmarks we could verify, and how to use them.

BenchmarkFigureWhat it means for you
US market research analysts and marketing specialists, median (BLS, May 2025)$78,760 a yearA US local, mid-level ceiling, not an offer you'll see
Nigerian marketing listings on Jobberman (October 2026)Bands such as ₦70,000 to ₦150,000 and ₦250,000 to ₦400,000Local roles; check whether each ad's band is monthly

The US figure comes from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, which puts marketing specialists in the same group as market research analysts. BLS doesn't publish a separate "marketing coordinator" figure, and entry-level coordinators earn below the median. Remote pay for Nigeria-based workers is usually well below US local pay, because many companies pay by location or hire contractors at regional rates.

On the local side, Jobberman's marketing and communications listings in October 2026 mostly showed bands between ₦70,000 and ₦400,000. One remote role, a Marketing Performance Specialist at Kenkeputa, was in the ₦250,000 to ₦400,000 band.

How to judge an offer

Work out what lands in your account, not the headline number.

Example (hypothetical): a UK startup offers you a contractor role at $800 a month. At ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN NFEM weighted average, 23 October 2026), that's about ₦1,089,600 a month before fees and tax. From that, take away the withdrawal fee charged by your payment app, power and data costs (fuel or inverter battery, two internet lines), and the fact that contractors get no paid leave or pension unless the contract says otherwise.

Two things decide how that money reaches you:

  • Employee or contractor. Most foreign companies hire Nigeria-based coordinators as contractors, or as employees through an employer of record (EOR). Our contractor versus EOR employee guide explains what changes for benefits and termination.
  • How you get paid. Deel, Payoneer, Grey, Wise and domiciliary accounts all handle dollar income differently. See how to receive dollar payments in Nigeria before you agree a payment method. Tax applies to this income too; the remote work tax guide covers the Nigeria Tax Act 2025.

Our digital marketing specialist salary guide has dollar and naira pay for the next role up.

Working hours: which time zones fit a Nigeria-based coordinator

Coordinators often need to be online when the team is, because chasing people only works if they're awake. Nigeria is on West Africa Time (WAT, UTC+1) all year with no daylight saving. Here's what common "team hours" mean in Lagos.

Team based inTheir 9am to 5pmIn Lagos
London (winter, GMT)9am to 5pm10am to 6pm
London (summer, BST)9am to 5pm9am to 5pm
Central Europe (winter)9am to 5pm9am to 5pm
New York (winter, EST)9am to 5pm3pm to 11pm
New York (summer, EDT)9am to 5pm2pm to 10pm
California (winter)9am to 5pm6pm to 2am
Dubai9am to 5pm6am to 2pm

UK and European teams are the easiest fit. US East Coast roles mean evening work. Many US companies only ask for a few hours of overlap, so ask in the interview. For long US evenings, plan your power backup carefully: an inverter or solar setup that lasts through NEPA outages at 9pm matters more than a faster laptop. Keep two internet options too, such as a MiFi and a phone hotspot on a different network.

Look in several places, because coordinator roles are posted under many titles.

  • Remote job boards that show location. On WorkRemote's business and marketing listings, each listing shows the company, its website and where applicants may live. Remote Rocketship and similar boards have Nigeria-filtered pages.
  • Company careers pages. Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby and Workable boards are where companies post first. Search Google with site:job-boards.greenhouse.io "marketing coordinator" remote and then check each ad's location line.
  • Nigerian job sites. Jobberman and similar sites list remote marketing roles with Nigerian companies. They're good for a first role and pay in naira.
  • LinkedIn. Follow marketing agencies and startups that already employ people in Nigeria. They're more likely to hire here again.

Search terms to rotate: "marketing coordinator", "junior marketing coordinator", "marketing assistant", "marketing operations assistant", "social media coordinator", "content coordinator", "campaign coordinator". Add "remote" and "worldwide", "EMEA" or "Africa".

The application: CV, cover note and assessment

CV

Put a one-line summary at the top that names the role: "Entry-level marketing coordinator with hands-on experience planning and scheduling a 10-post social campaign in Trello and Meta Business Suite." Then list your work sample as a project with results, your tools, your certificates and any organisation-heavy experience. Keep it to one page. Leave out your date of birth, photo and state of origin; international employers don't expect them. Our beginner remote work CV guide shows full layouts.

Cover note

Keep it to three short paragraphs: why this company, one example of you keeping a project on track, and your location plus the hours you can work. Copy one or two phrases from the ad ("content calendar", "campaign timelines") so a recruiter scanning it sees the match.

Assessment

Coordinator assessments are often practical. You might be asked to build a two-week content calendar from a brief, prioritise a messy task list, or write a status update email. Do it neatly in Google Sheets or Docs, state your assumptions, and hand it in early. Our guide to completing a remote marketing assessment covers common formats, and the digital marketing specialist interview questions cover many of the questions coordinators get asked.

Mistakes that get beginner applications rejected

  • Applying to "Remote (US)" or "Remote (LATAM)" ads and hoping for an exception. Automated screening usually filters by country first.
  • Sending a design portfolio for a coordination job. Show planning and tracking, not only visuals.
  • Listing every tool you've heard of. If a recruiter asks how you used ClickUp and you can't answer, you lose the job.
  • Writing long, vague updates in the assessment. Coordinators are hired for clear, short communication.
  • Ignoring the hours requirement, accepting, and then struggling with US nights.
  • Paying for "placement". A real employer never charges you to get a job. Recruiters who ask for a training fee, a "laptop deposit" or payment through Telegram are a known scam pattern; read how to spot remote job scams in Nigeria.

Where the role leads

Coordinator is a starting point, not a dead end. After a year or two, coordinators usually move one of three ways: into a specialist channel (email, social, paid ads, SEO), into marketing operations (tools, CRM, automation), or towards management through senior coordinator and marketing manager roles. Our guide to progressing from marketing assistant to marketing manager remotely covers that route. For a wider look at beginner marketing roles beyond coordination, see entry-level remote marketing jobs with no experience.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a remote marketing coordinator job in Nigeria with no experience?

Yes, but you need something to show in place of experience. A small campaign you planned, scheduled and reported on, one or two free certificates, and evidence of organisation from school, NYSC or volunteering can stand in for a job title. Apply only to ads open to Nigeria-based applicants. Our guide to remote jobs that hire beginners lists other starting points.

Do I need a marketing degree to become a marketing coordinator?

Not always. BLS says US marketing specialist roles usually require a bachelor's degree, and some employers prefer a degree in any field. Many remote employers, especially startups and agencies, care more about tools and proof of organisation. A degree in English, mass communication or business helps but isn't the deciding factor.

How much does a remote marketing coordinator earn?

It depends on the employer's location policy and on your employment type: contractor or employee. We couldn't find a reliable published figure for Nigeria-based coordinators, as of October 2026. The US median for marketing specialists was $78,760 a year in May 2025 (BLS), but that's a US benchmark, and offers to Nigeria-based beginners are usually much lower. Nigerian local marketing roles on Jobberman showed bands from ₦70,000 to ₦400,000.

Is a marketing coordinator the same as a marketing assistant?

They overlap. Assistants usually do more admin and support. Coordinators own schedules, timelines and follow-ups. Search for both titles, because companies use them loosely.

What does "Remote (LATAM)" or "Remote (US)" mean on a marketing job ad?

It means the company hires only people living in that region: Latin America or the United States. Applicants in Nigeria will normally be screened out, so spend your time on ads marked worldwide, Africa, EMEA or Nigeria instead.

Which tools should a beginner marketing coordinator learn first?

One project tool (Trello, Asana or ClickUp), one scheduling or email tool (Meta Business Suite, Buffer or Mailchimp), Google Sheets for reporting and Canva for quick visuals. Coordinator ads name exactly these kinds of tools. Learn them on a real practice project so you can describe how you used them.

Are HubSpot Academy certificates worth it for marketing coordinator jobs?

Yes, as a supporting item. HubSpot says its certifications are free, and they teach the vocabulary coordinator ads use. Put them below your work sample on your CV, not above it.

Can I work for a US company as a marketing coordinator from Nigeria?

Yes, if the ad accepts applicants outside the US. Expect evening hours: a 9am start in New York is 2pm or 3pm in Lagos, depending on the season. Check the ad for "authorised to work in the US" wording, which usually rules out applicants abroad.

Key takeaways

  • Entry-level remote marketing coordinator jobs open to Nigerians exist, but many coordinator ads restrict location or ask for 2+ years, so read the location line first.
  • The job is about keeping campaigns on schedule: calendars, task tracking, scheduling, follow-ups and simple reports.
  • A planned, scheduled and reported practice campaign is the strongest proof a beginner can offer.
  • Free HubSpot Academy certifications and one project tool learnt properly support your application, but they don't replace a work sample.
  • Most Nigeria-based coordinators are hired as contractors; work out pay after fees, power and data costs, not from the headline figure.
  • UK and European teams fit Nigerian hours best; US roles usually mean working evenings.
