Remote Salesforce Administrator Jobs: Skills and Requirements for Nigerians
What remote Salesforce admin jobs require: skills, the $200 certification, experience, pay benchmarks and how to apply from Nigeria. Updated October 2026.

Remote Salesforce administrator jobs ask for three things: hands-on skill configuring Salesforce (objects, fields, Flow automation, reports and user security), usually the Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator credential, and enough real experience to show you won't break a live system. You can get one from Nigeria, but you'll be competing for the smaller share of ads that are open to EMEA, Africa or worldwide applicants. Many Salesforce admin vacancies are US-only or UK-only.
This guide covers what the job involves day to day, the skills employers test for, the certification facts as of October 2026 (cost, pass mark, what the exam covers), how to tell from an ad whether Nigeria-based applicants are eligible, what the pay benchmarks really mean for you, and how to build proof of skill before your first admin role. It is written for people in Nigeria who already work with CRMs, spreadsheets, IT support or sales operations and want to move into a remote Salesforce role.
Quick answer
A remote Salesforce administrator configures and maintains a company's Salesforce system: users, permissions, data, automation and reports. Most employers want the Platform Administrator certification ($200 exam, 68% pass mark in English, as of October 2026) and one to three years of hands-on admin work. People based in Nigeria can apply where an ad allows EMEA, Africa or worldwide applicants, or through contract work. Check the location line on every ad before applying.
What a remote Salesforce administrator actually does
Salesforce is a customer relationship management (CRM) platform. Sales teams log deals in it, support teams handle cases, and marketing teams track leads. The administrator is the person who makes it fit how the business works, mostly without writing code.
A typical week for a remote admin might include:
- Creating users, resetting logins and adjusting what each team can see.
- Adding a field or a page layout because the sales manager wants to track something new.
- Building or fixing a Flow (Salesforce's no-code automation tool) that assigns leads or sends alerts.
- Cleaning duplicate records and importing a spreadsheet of contacts with Data Import Wizard or Data Loader.
- Building reports and dashboards for leadership.
- Testing changes in a sandbox (a copy of the live system) before moving them to production.
- Answering tickets in Slack, Jira or email from colleagues in other countries.
The work suits remote setups because it all happens in a browser. The difficulty is that you're handling a company's customer data and revenue pipeline, so employers are careful about who they give admin access to. That caution explains a lot about which ads are open to Nigeria, as covered below.
Salesforce admin is different from Salesforce developer. Developers write Apex code and build Lightning Web Components. Admins configure. Many people start as admins and move into development or consulting later. If you're a sales rep who simply uses Salesforce every day, how to use Salesforce in a remote sales job is the more relevant read.
Skills employers look for in remote Salesforce admins
The most reliable map of what employers expect is Salesforce's own exam outline, because hiring managers often use the certification as a baseline. According to the Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator exam guide, the exam is weighted like this (as of October 2026):
| Exam area | Weight | What it means at work |
|---|---|---|
| Data and Analytics Management | 17% | Imports, data quality, reports, dashboards |
| Configuration and Setup | 15% | Company settings, users, security |
| Object Manager and Lightning App Builder | 15% | Objects, fields, page layouts, apps |
| Automation | 15% | Flow, approvals, validation rules |
| Sales and Marketing Applications | 10% | Leads, opportunities, campaigns |
| Service and Support Applications | 10% | Cases, queues, service processes |
| Productivity and Collaboration | 10% | Activities, Chatter, mobile, AppExchange |
| Agentforce | 8% | Salesforce's AI agent features |
Data model and configuration
You need to understand standard objects (Account, Contact, Lead, Opportunity, Case), how to create custom objects, and the difference between lookup and master-detail relationships. Most admin interview tasks start here: "Design how we'd track partner referrals in Salesforce."
Automation with Flow
Flow Builder is now the main automation tool, and employers ask about it more than anything else. You should be able to build record-triggered flows, screen flows and scheduled flows, and know when a validation rule or approval process is the simpler answer. A remote employer will often hand you a short Flow task as part of hiring.
Security and access
This is where careless admins cause damage. Know profiles, permission sets, permission set groups, the role hierarchy, organisation-wide defaults and sharing rules. Be ready to explain how you'd let a regional manager see her team's opportunities without seeing everyone else's.
Data management and reporting
Expect questions on deduplication, import tools, report types, summary and matrix reports, and dashboards. Leadership judges an admin largely on whether the dashboards are right.
Change management
Remote teams care about this because nobody can see you working. Know how to use sandboxes, change sets, and release notes, and how to document a change so a colleague in another time zone can follow it.
Remote working skills
Remote Salesforce admins work through tickets and written requests. Clear writing matters as much as technical skill. Can you take a vague Slack message ("the pipeline report looks wrong"), ask two good questions, fix it and explain what changed in three sentences? That's the job.
Requirements: certification, experience and education
The Platform Administrator certification
The certification used to be called ADM 201, and many job ads still use that name. Here are the facts from the official exam guide, as of October 2026:
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Registration fee | US$200 plus applicable taxes |
| Retake fee | US$100 plus applicable taxes |
| Questions | 60 scored, plus up to 5 unscored |
| Time allowed | 105 minutes |
| Pass mark | 68% (English) |
| Prerequisites | None |
| Recommended experience | At least six months as an admin |
| Delivery | Test centre or online proctored |
| Upkeep | Yearly maintenance badge on Trailhead |
At the house rate of ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN NFEM weighted average, 23 October 2026), the $200 exam fee comes to about ₦272,400 before tax, and a retake about ₦136,200. Pay with a card that works for dollar transactions, and check the checkout page for the current price before you book.
Keep up with the maintenance badge. The exam guide says the certification expires if you miss the yearly due date, and an expired credential on your CV or LinkedIn looks bad.
Is the certification required?
Not legally, but in practice most remote ads either require it or list it as strongly preferred. For a Nigeria-based applicant with no international employer on the CV yet, it's the quickest way to give a foreign hiring manager something they can verify. Salesforce credentials can be checked online, which helps you more than a local certificate a recruiter abroad can't look up.
The certification alone won't get you hired, though. Employers know people can pass with practice questions. They want to see that you've built things.
Experience
Most remote admin ads ask for one to three years of hands-on admin work. Junior remote openings exist but are uncommon. That's why the portfolio section below matters.
Useful routes into that first year:
- An in-house admin or "CRM officer" role at a Nigerian company that uses Salesforce, even if it's on-site.
- A sales operations, IT support or business analyst role where you take over Salesforce duties.
- Contract work for a Salesforce consulting partner, which often hires juniors to support implementations.
- Volunteer admin work for a nonprofit that runs Salesforce.
Education
Degrees vary by employer. Some ads ask for one and some don't. The Canonical ad discussed below asks for a technical degree "or a compelling narrative about your alternative path", which is fairly typical: a degree helps but a strong record of built work can make up for it. For more on this route, see remote IT jobs that don't require a computer science degree.
Can you get a remote Salesforce admin job from Nigeria?
Yes, but read the location line first. Remote Salesforce admin ads fall into a few types:
| Ad says | Can you apply from Nigeria? |
|---|---|
| Remote, US only (or needs US work authorisation) | No |
| Remote, UK (right to work in the UK) | No, unless you have UK work rights |
| Remote, EMEA | Often yes, but confirm Nigeria is included |
| Remote, Nigeria or Africa | Yes |
| Worldwide or anywhere | Yes, check time-zone hours |
| Freelance or contract project | Usually yes, depends on the client |
EMEA stands for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Nigeria is in it, but some "EMEA" ads really mean "countries where we have a legal entity". If you're unsure, ask the recruiter one direct question before spending time on a long application. What EMEA means in a remote job description covers this in detail.
Example: an EMEA ad (checked 27 October 2026)
Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, had a Salesforce Administrator role listed as home-based in EMEA on its Greenhouse board when we checked on 27 October 2026. Things worth noting for Nigerian applicants:
- The role covers NetSuite as well as Salesforce, so CRM and ERP experience both count.
- It asks for professional written and spoken English and strong presentation skills.
- It requires international travel about twice a year for team events. With a Nigerian passport that means visa applications, so plan for time and cost.
- Salary isn't published. The ad says pay depends on location, experience and performance.
- The application form says answers must be in your own words and that AI-generated content can lead to disqualification.
Vacancies close. Treat this as an example of what an EMEA admin ad looks like, and check the live page before applying.
Example: a Nigeria-only listing (checked 27 October 2026)
The Himalayas page of remote Salesforce jobs filtered for Nigeria showed a Salesforce Marketing Cloud Specialist role from Talent Hackers marked "Nigeria only" when we checked. Most other listings on that page didn't state where applicants may live, so check each one. Marketing Cloud is a separate Salesforce product from the core platform, and Talent Hackers is a recruitment firm hiring on behalf of a client. Find out who the actual employer is before you share documents.
Why so many Salesforce admin ads exclude Nigeria
It's rarely personal. The common reasons are:
- Data access. Admins can see every customer record. Companies in regulated industries (finance, health, government contracting) often limit admin access to people in specific countries.
- Payroll. A company with no entity in Nigeria can only pay you as a contractor or through an employer of record. Some don't want to do either. Our guide on contractor versus employer-of-record arrangements explains the difference.
- Hours. Admins fix things when they break. A US company may want someone online during its working day.
Why some remote jobs aren't available to Nigerians goes into these reasons in more depth.
How much remote Salesforce administrators earn
Published pay data for Salesforce admins comes from UK and US job ads. These are benchmarks for roles based in those countries, not what a company will offer someone living in Nigeria. Contractors hired from Nigeria are usually paid less than local US or UK staff, and how much less varies by company.
| Source | Figure | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| ITJobsWatch (UK) | £40,000 a year median | UK permanent admin ads, 6 months to 27 Oct 2026 |
| ITJobsWatch (UK) | £32,000 to £61,106 | 10th to 90th percentile, same period |
| ITJobsWatch (UK) | £42,500 a year median | Ads tagged work from home, same period |
| Remote Rocketship | $83,712 a year | Average for junior (1 to 2 years) remote admin ads |
| Remote Rocketship | $102,343 a year | Average for mid-level (2 to 4 years) |
| Remote Rocketship | $127,646 a year | Average for senior (5 to 9 years) |
How to read the table:
- The ITJobsWatch Salesforce Administrator page is built from UK job ads that quote a salary (59 of 93 ads in the period). Those roles almost always need the right to work in the UK.
- Remote Rocketship's Salesforce admin salary data averages pay from about 500 remote job postings. They're mostly North American, but the site doesn't state the geography, and the sample mixes countries. Treat it as a rough ceiling, not a target.
Example (hypothetical): converting a contract offer
Say a European software company offers a Nigeria-based junior admin a contract of $2,000 a month. This figure is invented for illustration and isn't a market rate. At ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN NFEM weighted average, 23 October 2026), that's about ₦2,724,000 a month before tax, transfer fees and conversion spreads. Before accepting any offer, work out what actually reaches your account. Our guides on ways to receive dollar payments in Nigeria and tax for remote workers under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 walk through those deductions.
What raises your rate: Flow depth, CPQ or Service Cloud experience, the Advanced Administrator credential, experience with integrations, and a record of handling a full org without supervision.
How to build Salesforce admin experience before your first job
The biggest barrier for Nigerian applicants is the "one to three years' experience" line. You can build credible evidence on your own if you treat it like work, not coursework.
- Learn on Trailhead. Salesforce's learning site has an Admin Beginner trail with five badges (data modelling, data management, Lightning Experience customisation, user engagement, and reports and dashboards), estimated at about 7 hours 20 minutes. Do the hands-on challenges in a practice org, not just the reading.
- Get a practice org. Trailhead Playgrounds and Salesforce Developer Edition orgs let you build in a real Salesforce environment. Sign up with a personal email so you keep access if you change jobs.
- Build one realistic project end to end. For example, set up a small Lagos real estate agency's lead-to-sale process: custom objects for properties, a Flow that assigns leads by area, validation rules, a sharing model for agents, and a sales dashboard.
- Document it like a consultant. Write a two-page summary: business problem, design choices, security model, what you'd do next. Add screenshots and a short screen recording. This is your portfolio piece.
- Pass the certification. Use the exam outline weights above to plan your study time. Most people underprepare for data and automation.
- Get real users. Offer to set up or clean up Salesforce for a nonprofit, church, school or small business. A reference from a real organisation counts for more than any badge.
- Keep a change log. Every fix you make for a real user becomes a CV bullet: "Rebuilt lead assignment Flow, cutting unassigned leads from about 40 a week to zero." Only use numbers you actually measured.
How to build experience before applying for remote jobs covers volunteering and project work across other roles too.
Where to look for remote Salesforce admin roles
- Company Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby boards. Search "Salesforce Administrator" with "EMEA" or "remote", and read the location line first.
- Remote job boards with country filters, such as the Himalayas Nigeria filter mentioned above.
- Salesforce consulting partners. Implementation firms in Europe, the UK and Africa hire contract admins and junior consultants. Many list openings on LinkedIn.
- Freelance platforms. Small clients often want a part-time admin for clean-up, user management or a single Flow. This is a realistic first paid step.
- Salesforce community groups. Local Trailblazer Community groups and online admin communities share referrals that never get posted publicly.
- WorkRemote.ng. Our remote tech job listings show where applicants may live on each listing. Search "Salesforce" or "CRM".
Related admin roles can also be good entry points: Jira administrator jobs, Microsoft 365 administrator jobs and revenue operations jobs, where Salesforce administration is often part of the job.
Nigeria-specific practicalities
Power and internet
Admins get called when something breaks, often at the end of a working day. You need backup power (an inverter or solar setup, with a generator as a last resort) and two internet connections, such as a fixed line or Starlink plus a MiFi or phone hotspot. Losing connection in the middle of a data import or a production deployment can leave records half-updated, so run big jobs only when your power and internet are stable.
Time zones
Nigeria is on WAT (UTC+1) all year. For an EMEA role that's easy: Lagos is one hour ahead of London from late October to late March and on the same time in summer, and on the same time as Central Europe in winter. US roles are harder. From 1 November 2026, New York is 6 hours behind Lagos, so a 9am to 5pm Eastern day runs 3pm to 11pm in Lagos. Ask about required overlap hours at the first interview.
Security and identity
Employers may ask for ID checks or background checks before granting admin access. That's normal for this role, but do it through the company's official HR system or an employer-of-record platform. Never send your BVN, passport or bank login over WhatsApp to someone you haven't verified.
Getting paid
Contract roles usually pay through Deel, Remote.com, Payoneer, Wise or a direct bank transfer to a domiciliary account. Check fees before you sign. The payment guide linked above compares the options.
Common mistakes and red flags
- Applying to US-only ads. If an ad asks if you are authorised to work in the United States, the answer for most readers is no. Move on.
- Listing the certification without built work. "Salesforce Certified Administrator" with nothing else on the CV looks like exam prep only.
- Calling yourself a developer. Don't claim Apex skills you don't have. Admin interviews often include a live task.
- Overselling AI features. The exam now covers Agentforce (8%), but most companies still mainly need clean data, sensible security and working automation. Talk about those first.
- Paying for a "guaranteed Salesforce job" bootcamp. Real employers don't charge you to be hired. Be wary of anyone who asks for a fee to "release" an offer, or who wants your Salesforce login details or an exam voucher bought through them. Our guide to spotting remote job scams in Nigeria lists the usual patterns.
- Using AI to write application answers word for word. Some employers, Canonical among them, say plainly that AI-generated answers can disqualify you.
Frequently asked questions
Can I become a Salesforce administrator without a degree in Nigeria?
Yes, many employers accept a strong portfolio and the certification instead of a degree. Some still list a degree as a requirement or preference, so read each ad. A documented project and a real reference make up for a missing degree more effectively than extra badges do.
How much does the Salesforce admin exam cost in naira?
As of October 2026, the exam costs $200 plus tax, about ₦272,400 at ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN NFEM weighted average, 23 October 2026). A retake is $100, about ₦136,200. You pay in dollars, so the naira cost changes with the exchange rate.
Can I write the Salesforce certification exam from Nigeria?
Yes. Salesforce offers the exam either at a test centre or online with a proctor. For the online option you need a quiet room, a working webcam and a stable connection for the full 105 minutes, so sort out backup power first.
How long does it take to become job-ready as a Salesforce admin?
There's no fixed timeline. The exam guide recommends six months of hands-on admin experience before taking the exam. Most employers want one to three years of real admin work on top of that. Plan for months of practice, not weeks.
Do remote Salesforce admin jobs pay in dollars?
Many do, especially contracts with US and European companies. UK roles usually pay in pounds. Published benchmarks such as the £40,000 UK median are for UK-based roles, and Nigeria-based contractors are usually offered less, so negotiate from your skills and the role's scope.
Is Salesforce admin a good remote career for Nigerians?
It can be, if you already like working with data, processes and business users. The barrier is getting the first real experience, and many ads are restricted to the US or UK. People coming from sales operations, IT support or business analysis usually make the switch most easily.
What's the difference between a Salesforce admin and a Salesforce developer?
Admins configure Salesforce using clicks: objects, fields, Flow, security and reports. Developers write code (Apex and Lightning Web Components) for things configuration can't handle. Many admins learn some development later, but entry-level admin roles don't require coding.
Key takeaways
- Remote Salesforce admin work is configuration, automation, data and security, done mostly through written tickets.
- The Platform Administrator exam costs $200 (68% pass mark, 105 minutes) as of October 2026, and needs a yearly maintenance badge.
- Many remote admin ads are US-only or UK-only. Target EMEA, Africa, Nigeria or worldwide ads, and contract work.
- UK and US salary figures are benchmarks for local staff. Nigeria-based contractors are usually paid less.
- A documented project in a practice org, plus real work for a nonprofit or small business, is the most practical way past the experience requirement.
Next steps
Start by finishing the Admin Beginner trail and building one documented project in a practice org. Then look through the WorkRemote.ng job listings for Salesforce and CRM roles, check where applicants may live on each one, and use "Get email updates" after your search to receive a free daily digest of new matching jobs. If you want help with applications, WorkRemote Premium (₦29,999 a month) includes a CV and LinkedIn rewrite by our team, applications made on your behalf and interview prep, and Premium members are invited to a job interview within their first week (an interview invite, not a job offer).
