How to Find Remote Jira Administrator Jobs
Where to find remote Jira administrator jobs from Nigeria: titles to search, boards, eligibility checks, skills from real ads, pay benchmarks and migration demand.

You find remote Jira administrator jobs by searching for more than one title (Jira Administrator, Atlassian Administrator, Atlassian Consultant, Jira Service Management admin) and by looking where Atlassian work actually gets posted: Atlassian partner and app vendor boards, remote job boards and company applicant-tracking pages. Read every ad's location line before you apply, because many of them are US-only or limited to a list of European countries. From Nigeria, your best chances are worldwide contract roles, EMEA roles that name Africa or Nigeria, and Atlassian Solution Partners that hire across regions.
This guide covers the job titles to search, where to search, how to tell which ads accept Nigerian residents, the skills that real ads ask for, and how to prove those skills if your current employer doesn't run Jira. It also gives honest pay benchmarks in dollars and naira, and explains why Atlassian's move away from self-hosted Data Center is creating migration work.
Quick answer
Remote Jira administrator jobs exist, but most ads are tied to the US, UK or EU. Search several titles (Jira Administrator, Atlassian Administrator, Atlassian Consultant), use partner and vendor boards as well as general remote boards, and only apply where the ad says worldwide or names Nigeria or Africa. Employers want Jira Cloud configuration, Jira Service Management, automation, user management and, more and more, Server/Data Center to Cloud migration experience.
What a remote Jira administrator actually does
A Jira administrator sets up and maintains Jira so that software, IT and business teams can track their work. In most organisations the same person also looks after Confluence and Jira Service Management (JSM, Atlassian's service desk product), so the role is often advertised as "Atlassian Administrator".
Day to day, the work usually covers:
- Projects, workflows, issue types, custom fields, screens and the schemes that tie them together
- Permission schemes, user groups and access requests
- Automation rules, dashboards, filters and JQL (Jira Query Language) queries
- Jira Service Management portals, request types, queues and SLAs
- Single sign-on and user provisioning through an identity provider
- Marketplace apps, such as ScriptRunner, and integrations with CI/CD tools
- Migrations from self-hosted Jira (Server or Data Center) to Jira Cloud
The job suits remote work well. Everything happens in a browser or over an API, requests come in as tickets, and changes can be documented and reviewed in writing. That's why so many of these roles are advertised as remote, even though the location rules attached to them vary a lot.
Why there is Jira migration work right now
Atlassian is retiring its self-hosted Data Center products, and that is driving much of the current hiring. According to Adaptavist's summary of the Data Center end-of-life timeline:
| Date | What changes |
|---|---|
| 30 March 2026 | New customers can no longer buy Data Center licences |
| 30 March 2028 | Existing customers can no longer buy or expand licences |
| 28 March 2029 | Data Center subscriptions expire and instances become read-only |
Every company still running Jira on its own servers has to move to Cloud before March 2029. That means planning, app checks, data clean-up, test migrations and user support. Ads now name the tools for this work directly. A worldwide contract ad from Cynet Systems on Remotive, for example, asks for experience leading Server/Data Center to Cloud migrations with the Jira Cloud Migration Assistant (JCMA) and the Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant (CCMA) (checked October 2026).
For you, this has two consequences. Migration skills are the quickest way to stand out right now. The work also has an end date for each client, so a lot of it is offered as contract work rather than permanent employment.
Job titles to search (it's not only "Jira Administrator")
If you only search "Jira Administrator", you'll miss most of the relevant ads. Search all of these:
| Title in the ad | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Jira Administrator / Jira Admin | Core configuration and support for one company |
| Atlassian Administrator | Jira plus Confluence, often JSM and Bitbucket |
| Atlassian Systems Engineer / Tools Engineer | Admin work plus scripting, APIs, Linux and integrations |
| Jira Service Management Administrator | Service desk setup for IT or customer support teams |
| Atlassian Consultant / Technical Consultant | Client projects at an Atlassian partner, often migrations |
| Jira Administrator/Developer | Admin work plus ScriptRunner (Groovy) and REST API coding |
| Collaboration Tools Administrator | Jira and Confluence alongside Slack, Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 |
The consultant titles are worth a close look. Atlassian Solution Partners (consultancies that sell and implement Atlassian products) employ a lot of admins, but they call them consultants. If you've only ever been called an administrator, don't skip these ads.
Where remote Jira administrator jobs are posted
Atlassian ecosystem job boards
The Apwide Atlassian Ecosystem Jobs board collects roles at Atlassian Solution Partners and Marketplace app vendors. It is run by Apwide, a company that makes Jira apps. It has filters for location (including Africa and Remote), job type and category. When we checked in October 2026, it listed consultant and admin roles at firms such as Devoteam, Adaptavist and Valiantys, including office-based roles in Casablanca, Dakar, Tunis and Cairo. Those African roles are not remote for someone in Lagos, but they show which partners already hire on the continent. Those partners are worth following for remote openings later. Several of the North and West African roles are in French, so French helps.
General remote job boards
Remote job boards such as Remotive carry Jira admin ads, but you need to read the location field every time. Two ads on Remotive in October 2026 show the difference:
- Cynet Systems, Jira Administrator: contract, listed as worldwide, $50 to $55 an hour, focused on Jira Software, JSM and Cloud migrations (posted about a month before we checked).
- ProArch, Jira Administrator: contract, USA only, asks for 7+ years administering Jira and Confluence, preferably self-hosted.
Both are "remote Jira administrator jobs". Only one of them is open to you.
Company applicant-tracking pages
Many tech companies post jobs on Greenhouse, Lever or Ashby, and those pages are public. Search Google with strings like these:
site:job-boards.greenhouse.io "Atlassian administrator" remotesite:jobs.lever.co "Jira administrator" remotesite:jobs.ashbyhq.com "Atlassian" administrator"Jira administrator" remote "EMEA"or"Jira administrator" remote "Africa"
This finds ads that never reach the big boards. Expect plenty of results that are on-site or limited to particular countries. For a full method, see finding remote jobs on company career pages.
Aggregators and staffing agencies
Aggregators and talent agencies repost ads for "partner companies" whose names they don't show. Some are useful, but read them carefully. One Jobgether partner ad for a Jira Administrator/Developer was listed under Nigeria on Jobmeter in March 2026 and had expired when we checked in October 2026. It's still useful as a picture of what a remote-first team wanted (more on that below), but it shows how quickly these ads close. Set up searches and check them daily, not monthly.
WorkRemote.ng listings
Our tech job listings show the company, its website and where applicants may live for each role, so you can see eligibility before you click through. Search "Jira" or "Atlassian" there as well as on the boards above.
How to tell whether a Jira admin ad accepts applicants in Nigeria
Read the location line, then the small print, then the benefits section. Benefits that only make sense in one country (a US 401(k), UK pension auto-enrolment) usually mean the role is limited to that country.
| What the ad says | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Remote, Worldwide / Anywhere | Open to you, unless the text adds a restriction further down |
| Remote, EMEA | Sometimes open; check whether Africa or Nigeria is named or a country list is given |
| Remote, USA only / must be a US citizen | Not open; don't apply |
| Remote within UK, Ireland, Spain (a country list) | Not open unless Nigeria is on the list |
| Remote, Africa or Nigeria named | Open; check the time zone requirement |
| Hybrid or a city name | Not remote; the employer expects office days |
US federal and defence contractors often post Jira roles that need US citizenship or a security clearance. Skip them. Our guides on what "worldwide remote" means from Nigeria and checking whether a job accepts Nigerian residents cover this in more detail.
Skills employers ask for in Jira admin ads
The ads we opened in October 2026 ask for a fairly consistent set of skills. The expired remote-first ad listed under Nigeria asked for:
- Jira Software on both Cloud and Server/Data Center: workflows, schemes and advanced JQL
- Confluence, Bitbucket and identity provider/LDAP integrations (SSO, group sync)
- Groovy (for ScriptRunner) and Python
- Jira and Atlassian REST APIs
- Linux and the databases Jira supports (PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server)
- Jira integrations with CI/CD tools and webhooks
- SRE ideas such as SLIs, SLOs and monitoring
- Jira Service Management experience (preferred)
The worldwide Cynet ad focused on JSM, user provisioning, Atlassian Cloud governance and JCMA/CCMA migrations. The US-only ProArch ad added Bash or Python scripting, application monitoring and familiarity with ITSM (IT service management) workflows.
A practical skills ladder
| Level | What you should be able to do |
|---|---|
| Starter | Create projects, edit workflows, manage users and groups, write JQL filters, build dashboards |
| Working admin | Design schemes, set up JSM request types and SLAs, write automation rules, manage apps |
| Senior or consultant | Plan Cloud migrations with JCMA, script with ScriptRunner or Python, set up SSO, govern multiple sites |
Ads for the top row are rare. The bottom row gets the contract rates. Most remote openings sit between the two.
How to build proof if your company doesn't run Jira
You don't need an employer's Jira site to practise. Jira has a Free plan alongside its paid tiers, so you can create your own Cloud site and administer it. Make your practice look like real work:
- Create a Jira site and a JSM project. Build an IT help desk with a customer portal, request types, queues and SLAs.
- Design a software project workflow with at least five statuses, transitions with conditions, and a resolution field set on close.
- Write automation rules: auto-assign by component, escalate breached SLAs, close stale tickets.
- Write JQL filters and a dashboard a team lead would actually use.
- Document everything in a Confluence space: a change log, a permission matrix and a "how to request access" page.
- Record a short screen video walking through the setup. Send the link with applications.
Then consider certification. Atlassian runs two levels: Atlassian Certified Associate (ACA) for people who use the tools, and Atlassian Certified Professional (ACP) for administrators, as described on Atlassian's certifications page. The Jira admin exam is ACP-120, Jira Administration for Cloud. Atlassian's credential policies say ACP exams allow up to four attempts with 14 days between attempts, retakes cost the same as the original exam where a fee applies, and certifications are valid for two years before renewal (as of October 2026). Check the current exam fee on Atlassian's learning site before you pay. We couldn't confirm it on an official page we could open, and at the WorkRemote house rate of ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN, 23 October 2026), every attempt is a real cost. Use Atlassian's free courses and practice exams first. For how ACP compares with ITIL, cloud and other IT certificates, see our guide to IT certifications for remote jobs.
Example (hypothetical): Chiamaka does IT support at a Lagos bank, and her team logs tickets in Jira Service Management, although she isn't an admin. She asks the admin to let her build the automation for password-reset tickets, documents it, and repeats the setup on her own free Jira site. Six months later her CV has one real production change, a public Confluence write-up and an ACP-120 attempt booked. That's a stronger application than a certificate on its own.
Pay: what remote Jira admin work is worth
There's no official pay series for "Jira administrator". The nearest US benchmark is the Bureau of Labor Statistics category for network and computer systems administrators. Its Occupational Outlook Handbook gives a median of $99,130 a year in May 2025 for US-based workers. BLS also projects employment in that wider category to fall 4% between 2025 and 2035. That figure is for US workers in US jobs. A Nigeria-based contractor will usually be offered less than US local pay.
The best real data point from Nigeria's side is an ad that explicitly accepts worldwide applicants. The Cynet Systems contract above offered $50 to $55 an hour (October 2026). At the house rate of ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN, 23 October 2026), that's about ₦68,000 to ₦75,000 an hour before fees and tax. Treat this as one ad for experienced migration work, not a typical rate. Starter and working-admin roles pay less, and many global employers set lower bands for lower-cost countries.
Example (hypothetical): A part-time contract of 80 hours a month at $50 an hour comes to $4,000 a month, or about ₦5,448,000 at ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN, 23 October 2026). Withdrawal fees, exchange spreads and tax come out of that figure.

Nigeria-specific things to sort out before you apply
Time zones
Most Jira admin work is ticket-based, so overlap matters more than exact hours. Lagos is on WAT (UTC+1) all year. From 1 November 2026, US Eastern is 6 hours behind Lagos (5 in summer), so a 9am to 1pm New York overlap is 3pm to 7pm in Lagos. UK clocks went back on 25 October 2026, which puts London one hour behind Lagos until spring. Central European teams are on the same time as Lagos in winter. Migration cut-overs often happen at weekends or late at night client time, so ask about on-call before you sign.
Power and internet
Admin changes are risky to run on a dropping connection. A half-finished bulk edit or migration step is a bad way to start a contract. Have an inverter or solar backup and two internet routes (two ISPs, or a MiFi plus a phone hotspot). Starlink is available in Nigeria if you can't get reliable fibre. Check the current price before you budget for it.
Contract status and payment
Most worldwide Jira admin roles come as contracts, some through an employer of record (EOR). Read contractor or employee when a foreign company hires you before you accept, and the guide to receiving dollars in Nigeria to set up Payoneer, Wise, Grey or a domiciliary account before the first invoice. Tax on foreign income is covered in our remote work tax guide.
Admin access and trust
You'll hold admin rights over a company's whole Jira and Confluence. Expect identity checks, NDAs and a security-focused interview. That's normal. A "client" asking you for money, for your bank login, or to buy software through them is not. See how to spot remote job scams.
Common mistakes when applying for Jira admin roles
- Searching one title only. You'll miss the Atlassian consultant, tools engineer and JSM admin ads.
- Applying to US-only ads. It wastes time and can get your email flagged by the agency's system. Read the location line first.
- Listing "Jira" as a skill without numbers. Write "maintained 40 workflows for 300 users" or "migrated 12 projects to Cloud with JCMA" if it's true. If you only used Jira as an end user, say so honestly and show your practice site.
- Ignoring JSM. Many ads are for service desk administration, not software projects.
- Skipping the migration story. If you've touched a migration in any form (data clean-up, app checks, user mapping), describe it. That is what employers are buying until 2029.
- Paying for a certificate before practising. An ACP badge with no hands-on proof is weaker than a documented project.
Frequently asked questions
Can a Nigerian get a remote Jira administrator job?
Yes, where the ad accepts applicants worldwide or names Africa or Nigeria. Many Jira admin ads are limited to the US or a list of European countries, so read the location line first. Worldwide contract roles and Atlassian Solution Partners that hire across regions are the most realistic routes.
Do I need a computer science degree to become a Jira administrator?
Usually not. The ads we reviewed asked for hands-on Jira, Confluence and scripting experience, not degrees. BLS lists a bachelor's degree as the typical entry route for the wider systems administrator category in the US, so some employers will still ask for one. A documented practice site, real work examples and ACP-120 can make up for it with many others.
Is the Atlassian ACP-120 certification worth it for remote jobs?
It helps, but it doesn't replace experience. ACP-120 shows you know Jira Cloud administration, and some partners value it because it counts towards their own partner status. Practise on a free Jira site first, because Atlassian charges for retakes where a fee applies and allows up to four attempts with 14 days between each (as of October 2026).
How much do remote Jira administrators earn?
It varies widely. The closest US benchmark, network and computer systems administrators, has a median of $99,130 a year (BLS, May 2025), but that is US pay for US-based workers. One worldwide contract ad in October 2026 offered $50 to $55 an hour for experienced migration work. Expect lower rates for starter roles from Nigeria.
Are Jira administrator jobs going away with Data Center's end of life?
No. The work is shifting. Data Center instances become read-only on 28 March 2029, so there's migration demand until then, and Cloud sites still need admins for workflows, permissions, automation and JSM afterwards. Self-hosted server skills alone will matter less over time.
What's the difference between a Jira administrator and an Atlassian consultant?
A Jira administrator usually runs one organisation's Jira. An Atlassian consultant works at a partner firm and configures or migrates Jira for several client companies. The technical skills overlap heavily, but consultants also need client communication and project scoping skills.
Can I do Jira admin work part-time while employed?
Sometimes. Some contract ads are part-time, and small companies hire admins for a fixed number of hours a month. Check your current employment contract for conflict-of-interest rules, and make sure you can be reachable during the client's working hours.
Key takeaways
- Search several titles (Jira Administrator, Atlassian Administrator, Atlassian Consultant, JSM admin), not just one.
- Use Atlassian ecosystem boards, remote boards and Greenhouse/Lever/Ashby searches, and read the location line before you apply.
- Worldwide and Africa-named ads are open to you. US-only, clearance-required and EU country-list ads are not.
- Cloud migration skills (JCMA, CCMA, app checks) are in demand until Data Center becomes read-only on 28 March 2029.
- A free Jira site with documented workflows, JSM setup and automation is your proof. ACP-120 adds to it.
- US benchmarks are not what a Nigeria-based contractor will be offered. Judge each offer by its own rate, fees and hours.
