Remote video editor salary for Nigerians

Remote video editors in Nigeria earn a median of about $12,950 a year, according to Plane's estimate. That's roughly ₦1.47 million a month at the CBN rate of ₦1,361 to the dollar on 23 October 2026.

The spread is wide. A beginner cutting $25 shorts might make a few hundred dollars a month, while experienced ad editors on full-time contracts can earn $30,000 to $60,000 a year. Pay usually starts per video and turns into a retainer once a client trusts you.

Where these figures come from

Entry
Plane's 10th percentile for remote video editors in Nigeria ($4,047) up to a worldwide short-form contract from Content Mindset in October 2026: $25 per short, six or seven a week, which is $150 to $175 a week or about $7,800 to $9,100 if it ran all year.
Mid
Around Plane's Nigeria median ($12,951) for editors on regular channel or brand work, up to the bottom of Pearmill's worldwide motion and video ad contract ($30,000 to $60,000 a year, listed October 2026).
Senior
Pearmill's $30,000 to $60,000 contract for editing video ads and motion work, and Plane's 90th percentile for Nigeria ($62,241).

How that compares

Reference points from other markets. Remote pay for people in Nigeria is usually below US and UK local pay.

  • Nigeria remote median, video editor (Plane estimate) (plane.com)$12,951 a year
  • US median, film and video editors (BLS, May 2025) (bls.gov)$75,420 a year

What affects your pay

Type of work. Performance ads for e-commerce brands pay more than clipping podcasts, because a good ad makes the client money directly. Course and corporate videos sit in between.

Pay model. Per-clip rates look small but add up with volume. Retainers (a fixed monthly fee for a set number of videos) are where income becomes stable.

Extra skills. Editors who also do motion graphics, colour grading or thumbnails can charge more, and are easier to keep on.

Turnaround. Clients who need 24-hour delivery pay a premium. So do creators who need you live during US hours.

Your setup. If you can download and upload large files quickly, you can take on long-form work that slower setups can't. That alone widens the clients you can serve.

Negotiating your offer

Price by the video and define what one video includes: length, number of revision rounds, captions, music licensing and thumbnail or not. Write it down before you start.

After four to six weeks of on-time delivery, propose a monthly retainer for a fixed number of edits at a small discount to your per-video rate. Clients like predictable costs and you get predictable income.

If a client wants faster turnaround or more revisions, that's a rate change, not a favour. Say so politely the first time it happens.

Questions people ask

How much do YouTube editors charge per video?

It depends on length and style. A worldwide short-form contract in October 2026 paid $25 per short; full-length YouTube edits usually pay more per video because they take many more hours.

How much is $12,950 a year in naira?

About ₦17.6 million a year, or roughly ₦1.47 million a month, at the CBN central rate of ₦1,361.34 to the dollar on 23 October 2026.

Do video editors in Nigeria earn more than graphic designers?

Plane's medians for the two are close, about $12,950 for video editors and $13,300 for graphic designers in Nigeria. Editors who specialise in ads or YouTube retention can earn well above the median.

Can I make a full-time income from short-form editing?

Yes, but usually by working with two or three clients or moving from per-clip pay to a retainer. One client at $25 a short is rarely enough on its own.
