Remote social media manager salary for Nigerians

A Nigeria-based social media manager working remotely for a foreign company typically earns about $15,700 a year, according to Plane's estimate, which is roughly ₦1.78 million a month at the CBN rate of ₦1,361 to the dollar on 23 October 2026. Entry contracts start lower and a small number of senior roles pay several times more.

That is well below UK and US pay for the same title. Companies hiring from Africa usually set pay by location, and many hire as contractors, so you also cover your own tax, power and internet.

Where these figures come from

Entry
From Plane's 10th percentile for remote social media managers in Nigeria ($5,495) up to the bottom of Storm Ideas' October 2026 AI Social Media Coordinator contract ($18,000 to $22,000, open to all countries).
Mid
Around Plane's Nigeria median ($15,700) up to the top of Storm Ideas' copy and community manager contract ($24,000 to $28,000, open to all countries, October 2026).
Senior
Up to Plane's 90th percentile for Nigeria ($45,409). A few worldwide-open roles go higher: the Project Management Institute listed a Social Media Specialist II at $96,000 to $114,000, adjusted by location, so expect less than the top of that band from Lagos.

How that compares

Reference points from other markets. Remote pay for people in Nigeria is usually below US and UK local pay.

What affects your pay

Who the client is. A US software company pays far more than a small UK e-commerce shop. B2B brands on LinkedIn tend to pay better than lifestyle brands, because one good lead is worth a lot to them.

How much you do yourself. A manager who writes, designs, edits video and reports is worth more than one who only schedules posts. Be careful, though: some ads bundle three jobs into one low salary.

Contract or employment. Contractor pay looks higher but you get no paid leave or pension, and you pay for your own inverter, data and laptop. Employer-of-record jobs through Deel or Remote.com sometimes include leave and health cover.

Proof of results. Showing that your work brought sales, sign-ups or leads is the single biggest lever on your rate. Follower growth on its own carries less weight than it used to.

Hours. Roles that need you live during US Pacific hours (late evening in Lagos) sometimes pay a little more because fewer people want them.

Negotiating your offer

Ask for the range before the final interview; many companies hiring worldwide have one and will tell you. If they say pay is location-based, ask what band applies to Nigeria rather than guessing.

Anchor on the work, not your expenses. "For three platforms, 20 posts a week and monthly reporting, my rate is $1,800 a month" lands better than "I need more because of fuel prices".

If the number is fixed, negotiate scope: fewer platforms, a designer for graphics, or a review after three months with a written target. Get any promise of a raise into the contract or an email.

Questions people ask

How much is $15,700 a year in naira?

About ₦21.4 million a year, or roughly ₦1.78 million a month, at the CBN central rate of ₦1,361.34 to the dollar on 23 October 2026. The rate moves, so recheck it before you sign anything priced in naira.

Do Nigerian social media managers earn the same as Americans?

No. Most remote employers adjust pay by country, and Plane's Nigeria median is a fraction of US pay for related marketing roles. A few worldwide roles pay one global rate, but they are rare and very competitive.

What do beginners earn?

Entry-level contracts open to Africa that we saw in October 2026 paid around $18,000 to $22,000 a year for full-time coordinator work. Many beginners start lower with small clients on monthly retainers.

Is it better to freelance or take a full-time remote job?

Full-time roles give steadier income; freelancing lets you stack two or three clients but income swings. Many people start freelancing to build proof, then move to one full-time contract.
