Remote graphic designer salary for Nigeria-based designers
A Nigeria-based graphic designer working remotely earns a median of about $13,300 a year, according to Plane's estimate, or roughly ₦1.5 million a month at the CBN rate of ₦1,361 to the dollar on 23 October 2026. Mid-level full-time roles open to Africa pay more, around $23,000 to $27,000 a year.
US designers earn several times that, and foreign employers know it. That is why the portfolio, specialism and client type matter so much: they decide where in the range you land.

Where these figures come from
- Entry
- Plane's 10th percentile ($6,171) to its median ($13,326) for remote graphic designers in Nigeria. Many juniors start here on part-time retainers or agency production work.
- Mid
- From Plane's Nigeria median up to a Mindful Souls ad open to all countries in September 2026 at €1,700 to €2,000 a month (about $22,800 to $26,900 a year using CBN cross rates on 23 October 2026).
- Senior
- Jobberman's Nigeria-only remote design lead role ($2,000 to $2,700 a month, September 2026), BRND WGN's senior designer role at €40k and up (about $44,800, open to all countries) and Plane's 90th percentile for Nigeria ($59,444).
How that compares
Reference points from other markets. Remote pay for people in Nigeria is usually below US and UK local pay.
- Nigeria remote median, graphic designer (Plane estimate) (plane.com)$13,326 a year
- Nigeria-only remote design lead, top of advertised range (Jobberman) (himalayas.app)$2,700 a month
- US median, graphic designers (BLS, May 2025) (bls.gov)$62,960 a year
- UK graphic designer, starter (nationalcareers.service.gov.uk)£25,000 a year
- UK graphic designer, experienced (nationalcareers.service.gov.uk)£40,000 a year
What affects your pay
Specialism. Designers who also do motion (After Effects) or work on brand systems are paid more than general production designers. Ads that combine graphic and motion design, like BRND WGN's, sit at the higher end.
Agency or in-house. Agencies pay for speed across many clients; in-house teams pay for depth on one brand. In-house roles at funded tech companies tend to pay better and come with steadier hours.
Where the client is. Euro and dollar roles pay more than local Nigerian roles, but some are geo-adjusted. Ask what band applies to Nigeria.
Contractor vs employee. Many remote roles hire you as a contractor. The monthly figure may look good, but you're covering your own Creative Cloud subscription, power, internet and time off.
Portfolio fit. A portfolio that matches the client's industry (skincare, fintech, SaaS) lets you ask for more because you need less hand-holding.
Negotiating your offer
Before you talk numbers, find out the scope: how many requests a week, which formats, whether you'll do motion, and how many revision rounds. A designer doing three formats and unlimited revisions is doing a bigger job than the title suggests.
Quote in the client's currency and by the month or project, not by the hour, unless they insist. If they say the budget is fixed, ask for a paid Creative Cloud licence, a hardware allowance or a written pay review after three months.
If you freelance, keep a price list for common jobs (an ad set, a ten-slide deck, a label) so you're not making up numbers on the spot.
Questions people ask
How much is a $13,300 graphic design salary in naira?
About ₦18.1 million a year, or around ₦1.5 million a month, at the CBN central rate of ₦1,361.34 to the dollar on 23 October 2026. The naira moves, so recheck before comparing offers.
Do Nigerian designers get paid in dollars or euros?
Usually in the client's currency, often through Deel, Remote.com, Payoneer or Wise. You then withdraw to a domiciliary account or convert to naira through an app like Grey.
Is a local Nigerian design job or a remote one better paid?
Remote roles for foreign clients usually pay more than local agency jobs, even after geo-adjustment. Local jobs can be steadier and are a good place to build your first portfolio pieces.
What do senior remote designers from Nigeria earn?
The senior roles open to Nigeria that we found in 2026 ranged from about $24,000 to $45,000 a year, and Plane puts the top 10% of remote designers in Nigeria above about $59,000.

Salaries for related roles
- Brand Designer
A brand designer creates and looks after a company's visual identity: logo, colours, type, illustration and photo style, and the guidelines that keep everything consistent. It can be done fully remotely from Nigeria, usually as a step up from graphic design, and remote brand roles open to Africa tend to pay more than general design work.
- Motion Designer
A motion designer animates graphics, type, logos and illustrations for ads, explainer videos, apps and social content, usually in After Effects, Cinema 4D or Blender. It is very workable remotely from Nigeria and pays better than most design work, but you need a strong reel and a computer that can render without collapsing.
- Social Media Manager
A social media manager plans, posts and reports on a brand's accounts (Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, YouTube) and answers the people who comment. It is one of the most common remote jobs open to Nigerians, though most foreign roles go to people who can show accounts they have actually grown.
