Remote motion designer salary for Nigeria-based designers

Mid-level remote motion designers hired from outside the US were offered about $30,000 to $60,000 a year in job ads open to all countries in October 2026. Senior product motion roles in EMEA time zones went up to €90,000.

Those are full-time contract or employment rates, and they're the top of what's open to Nigeria. Many Nigerian motion designers start on freelance projects paid per video, and earn much less until they have a strong reel.

Naira at ₦1,362 to $1, 23 October 2026 (CBN NFEM weighted average), before tax and transfer fees, rounded to the nearest ₦1,000. The rate moves, so treat naira figures as a guide.

Where these figures come from

Mid
Pearmill's worldwide motion graphic designer contract for video ads ($30,000 to $60,000, listed October 2026) and BRND WGN's graphic and motion designer role at €40k and up (about $44,800 at CBN cross rates on 23 October 2026), open to all countries.
Senior
Miaplaza's senior illustration and motion product role, €60,000 to €90,000 adjusted by location (about $67,200 to $100,800), advertised for EMEA and CET±2, which includes Lagos time. The US median for animators ($102,030, BLS) is a ceiling few Africa-based roles reach.

How that compares

Reference points from other markets. Remote pay for people in Nigeria is usually below US and UK local pay.

  • Worldwide-open junior 3D motion role, bottom of range (Negativ Design) (himalayas.app)$50,000 a year
  • US median, special effects artists and animators (BLS, May 2025) (bls.gov)$102,030 a year
  • UK animator, entry level (low end) (prospects.ac.uk)£18,000 a year
  • UK animator, experienced (high end) (prospects.ac.uk)£35,000 a year

What affects your pay

2D or 3D. 3D motion pays more. The one worldwide junior role we found in 2026 asked for Cinema 4D, Redshift and After Effects and listed $50,000 to $65,000, which is far above typical 2D junior pay.

Ads vs explainers vs product. Performance ad work pays for volume and speed. Product motion (in-app animation in Lottie or Rive) is rarer and often sits inside better-paid product teams.

Design plus motion. If you can design the frames and animate them, you replace two people, and job ads that ask for both tend to pay more.

Contract length. Some contracts are short. Pearmill's 2026 role was listed as a one-month full-time contract with possible extension, so a high annual figure doesn't always mean a full year of work.

Reel quality. Above everything else, the reel sets your rate. Two strong client pieces will move your pay more than a new certificate.

Negotiating your offer

Ask how the company sets pay for people outside the US or EU before you name a number. Many publish a range and adjust by location; knowing that helps you aim at the right part of it.

For freelance work, quote per project with a set number of revision rounds and a clear list of deliverables (lengths, aspect ratios, Lottie or not). Animation changes are expensive, so put a price on extra rounds.

If a full-time offer is fixed, ask about paid software (Creative Cloud, Cinema 4D, Redshift), a hardware allowance, or a review date in writing.

Questions people ask

What do beginner motion designers in Nigeria earn?

We didn't find enough Africa-open junior ads with published pay to give a reliable range. Most beginners start on small freelance animation jobs before landing contracts like the $30,000 to $60,000 roles above.

Do motion designers earn more than graphic designers?

Usually, yes. Worldwide-open mid-level motion roles in 2026 started around $30,000, while Plane's median for remote graphic designers in Nigeria is about $13,300.

How much is $45,000 a year in naira?

About ₦61.3 million a year, or roughly ₦5.1 million a month, at the CBN central rate of ₦1,361.34 to the dollar on 23 October 2026.

Is the US animator median realistic for Nigerians?

Not for most roles. The $102,030 BLS median reflects US-based employees; companies hiring in Africa usually pay less, though senior EMEA roles can get close.
