What affects your pay
In-house tech vs agency. In-house roles at funded tech companies paid the most in what we found. Agencies pay less but give you more identity projects for your portfolio.
Scope. Owning a full rebrand, a Figma brand library and templates for the whole company is a senior job, even if the title says 'designer'.
Motion and web. Brand designers who can animate a logo or design a landing page in Figma are easier to justify at a higher salary.
Time zone overlap. Roles needing daily overlap with North America sometimes pay more, and they also mean late afternoons and evenings in Lagos.
Outliers. We also saw a senior brand designer role listed at $160,000 to $180,000 and marked open to all countries. Roles like that are rare and attract applicants from everywhere; plan your expectations around the more typical figures.
Negotiating your offer
Brand work has a clear business value, so talk about it in business terms: the rebrand you led, the templates that let the marketing team ship faster, the launch you designed.
Ask for the range and how location affects it. If the company pays in a currency other than dollars, agree how and when conversion happens, especially if you'll be paid through Deel or Remote.com.
For freelance identity projects, price the project, not the hours, and include a defined number of directions and revision rounds. Font licences and extra applications should be quoted separately.

The work moves easily online, and Nigerian designers win remote jobs and contracts every week, mostly on the strength of a tight portfolio rather than a degree.
