Where these figures come from
- Mid
- Lemon.io active contracts with Nigerian developers, 2-5 years' experience: $21-$24 an hour annualised at 2,080 hours (Q3 2026). Covers all developer specialisms, not iOS alone.
- Senior
- Lemon.io Nigeria contracts, senior (5-8 years): $30-$35 an hour, annualised at 2,080 hours (Q3 2026). Strong seniors (8+ years) earn $35-$40 an hour, about $73,000-$83,000, but they make up only 3% of the 518 Nigerian contracts.
How that compares
Reference points from other markets. Remote pay for people in Nigeria is usually below US and UK local pay.
- US median, software developers (BLS, May 2025) (bls.gov)$135,980 a year
- UK median, permanent iOS developer ads (IT Jobs Watch, 6 months to Oct 2026) (itjobswatch.co.uk)£75,000 a year
- Average expected salary, Nigerian app developers on Arc (self-reported) (arc.dev)$51,778 a year
- Nigeria median, software engineers, all levels (Levels.fyi, self-reported) (levels.fyi)₦7,133,835 a year
What affects your pay
SwiftUI and modern Swift. Developers who can work in both SwiftUI and UIKit, and who have moved code to async/await and Swift 6 concurrency, get better offers than those who only know one.
App scale and sector. Banking, fintech and health apps with payments, security reviews and large user bases pay more than small agency apps.
Fewer candidates. The cost of a Mac and iPhone keeps the number of Nigerian iOS developers lower than Android or web. That does not guarantee higher pay, but it can make strong candidates easier to place.
UK sample size. IT Jobs Watch's UK median of £75,000 for iOS developer ads in the six months to October 2026 came from 59 job ads, so it moves a lot between periods.
Negotiating your offer
Show what you shipped: App Store links, ratings, crash-free sessions and launch-time improvements. "I cut cold launch from 2.4 to 1.1 seconds using Instruments" is the kind of line that supports a higher rate.
Ask whether the company provides a MacBook and test devices or pays an equipment allowance. For long contracts, many do, and it is worth more than a small rate bump.
Ask for their range first, quote annual dollars and confirm the payment method, payment date and who pays fees.
Questions people ask
How much do remote iOS developers earn in Nigeria?
About $44,000-$50,000 a year at mid-level and $62,000-$73,000 at senior level, based on Lemon.io's Q3 2026 Nigerian contract data. Arc's Nigerian app developers report an average expected salary of $51,778.
Do iOS developers earn more than Android developers?
Not clearly. In the UK data we checked, iOS ads had a £75,000 median and Android ads £80,000 for the same period, both from small samples. Experience and the company matter more.
What do iOS developers earn in the US?
BLS groups them with software developers, whose median was $135,980 in May 2025. Remote roles hiring from Nigeria pay much less than US local rates.
Is buying a MacBook worth it for the pay?
If you are serious about native iOS, yes. A single month of a mid-level remote contract usually covers a good used MacBook, and you cannot do the job properly without one.

Salaries for related roles
- Mobile Developer
A mobile developer builds apps for Android and iPhone, and most remote roles open to Nigerians use a cross-platform framework, React Native (often with Expo) or Flutter, so one codebase ships to both stores. It can be done fully remotely from Nigeria, but you need apps people can download, and some real-device testing on iOS.
- Android Developer
An Android developer builds native apps for Android phones and tablets, today mostly in Kotlin with Jetpack Compose. It is one of the cheapest software careers to start from Nigeria (no Mac needed, $25 once to publish on Google Play), and remote companies hire Nigerian Android developers, usually at mid-level and above.
- Software Engineer
A software engineer designs, writes, tests and maintains the code behind products, and it is one of the remote jobs Nigerians most often get with foreign companies. Entry-level remote roles are rare, so most people get their first two years of experience locally or through freelance work before landing a dollar-paid contract.
