Where these figures come from
- Mid
- Lemon.io active contracts with Nigerian developers, 2-5 years' experience: $21-$24 an hour annualised at 2,080 hours (Q3 2026). The data covers all developer specialisms, not Android alone.
- Senior
- Lemon.io Nigeria contracts, senior (5-8 years): $30-$35 an hour, annualised at 2,080 hours (Q3 2026). Strong seniors (8+ years) earn $35-$40 an hour, about $73,000-$83,000, but they make up only 3% of the 518 Nigerian contracts.
How that compares
Reference points from other markets. Remote pay for people in Nigeria is usually below US and UK local pay.
- US median, software developers (BLS, May 2025) (bls.gov)$135,980 a year
- UK median, permanent Android developer ads (IT Jobs Watch, 6 months to Oct 2026) (itjobswatch.co.uk)£80,000 a year
- Average expected salary, Nigerian app developers on Arc (self-reported) (arc.dev)$51,778 a year
- Nigeria median, software engineers, all levels (Levels.fyi, self-reported) (levels.fyi)₦7,133,835 a year
What affects your pay
Compose and modern architecture. Developers who have shipped Compose apps with coroutines, Flow and Hilt are paid more than those maintaining older Java and XML code.
Scale and sector. Apps with millions of users, payments or strict security (banking, fintech, health) pay more. Nigerian bank and fintech experience is a real advantage here.
UK data moves around. IT Jobs Watch's UK median for Android developer ads was £80,000 in the six months to October 2026, up from £65,000 in the same period of 2025, but it was based on 40 quoted salaries, so treat it as a rough guide.
Performance and release skills. Being able to cut ANRs and crashes, work with baseline profiles and run staged rollouts makes you more valuable to product teams.
Negotiating your offer
Lead with Play Console numbers if you can share them: crash-free users, ANR rate, startup time, ratings. "I cut our ANR rate below Google's bad-behaviour threshold" is something a hiring manager understands immediately.
Ask for the range first, quote annual dollars, and confirm payment platform, payment date and fees in writing. If you will need test devices, ask whether the company provides them or covers Firebase Test Lab costs.
Questions people ask
How much do remote Android developers earn in Nigeria?
Around $44,000-$50,000 a year at mid-level and $62,000-$73,000 at senior level, based on Lemon.io's Q3 2026 Nigerian contract data. Arc's Nigerian app developers report an average expected salary of $51,778.
What do Android developers earn in the UK?
IT Jobs Watch put the UK median for permanent Android developer ads at £80,000 in the six months to October 2026, from 40 quoted salaries. Remote contracts from Nigeria pay much less.
Do Android developers earn less than iOS developers?
In the UK data we checked, the Android median (£80,000) was slightly higher than the iOS median (£75,000) for the same period, but both samples were small. Experience matters more than platform.
Does a Google Android certification increase pay?
No. Google's Associate Android Developer exam has been retired. Published apps and production experience are what raise your rate.

Salaries for related roles
- Mobile Developer
A mobile developer builds apps for Android and iPhone, and most remote roles open to Nigerians use a cross-platform framework, React Native (often with Expo) or Flutter, so one codebase ships to both stores. It can be done fully remotely from Nigeria, but you need apps people can download, and some real-device testing on iOS.
- iOS Developer
An iOS developer builds native apps for iPhone and iPad in Swift, mostly with SwiftUI and some UIKit. You can do it remotely from Nigeria, but it costs more to start than Android: you need a Mac for Xcode, ideally an iPhone, and $99 a year to publish on the App Store.
- Software Engineer
A software engineer designs, writes, tests and maintains the code behind products, and it is one of the remote jobs Nigerians most often get with foreign companies. Entry-level remote roles are rare, so most people get their first two years of experience locally or through freelance work before landing a dollar-paid contract.
