You can get a remote React Native job from Nigeria, but only a minority of the React Native ads you see online are open to you. Most well-paid ads on global boards are limited to the US, Europe or a named country list, so the real skill is finding the roles that accept candidates from Nigeria or Africa and then beating other global candidates on them.
This guide is for React Native developers who want remote work with foreign or regional employers. It explains the four hiring routes that do take global candidates, how to read the location line on an ad (with examples we checked in October 2026), what employers test for in 2026, what pay looks like on each route, and the Nigeria-specific setup problems that trip people up: building for iOS without a Mac, paying Apple and Google from a Nigerian card, and working US hours from Lagos.
Quick answer
Remote React Native developer jobs open to global candidates mostly come from talent marketplaces (such as Arc and Turing), companies hiring across a named country list or "EMEA", African fintechs and startups, and freelance clients. Expect to need TypeScript, Expo, at least one app shipped to a store, and comfort with native code. Pay for Nigeria-based developers is usually well below US salaries, so always confirm the location rule and pay on the live ad.
Who hires React Native developers from outside the US
React Native lets one team ship iOS and Android apps from a single TypeScript codebase, which is why startups and product companies like it. For a Nigerian developer, the question is less "who uses React Native" and more "who hires React Native developers without requiring US or EU residence". In our research, those employers fall into four groups.
Talent marketplaces and contractor networks
Marketplaces vet developers once, then match them with client companies. Arc's React Native board, checked in October 2026, showed freelance React Native roles marked "Remote anywhere", including a mid-level freelance React Native role and a senior part-time lead mobile role (Arc remote React Native jobs). Turing's React Native page asks for 3 or more years of React Native experience, full-time availability of 40 hours a week and a 4-hour overlap with US time zones, and says applicants pass a seniority assessment, a tech stack test and a live coding challenge (Turing remote React Native jobs).
These routes are usually contractor arrangements. They are often the most realistic first remote role for a mid-level developer in Nigeria, because the marketplace has already decided to accept international talent.
Product companies hiring across a country list or region
Many fintech, crypto and SaaS companies hire mobile engineers in a list of countries where they can legally contract or employ people. On Remote4Africa in October 2026, several fintech React Native ads were "100% remote" across lists such as "Poland, Argentina, UK, and many others", with the list cut off on the summary page (Remote4Africa React Native jobs). Whether Nigeria is on the list is the only question that matters, and you will find the answer only on the full ad.
African fintechs and startups hiring remotely in Nigeria
Companies building for African markets often hire React Native developers remotely within Nigeria. The same Remote4Africa page showed a fintech "Mobile Engineer (React Native)" role marked 100% remote in Lagos, Nigeria, posted 18 August, with pay of $13.3k to $18.5k a year. Pay on this route is lower than on global marketplaces, but competition is lower too and the time zone is yours.
Freelance clients and agencies
Agencies and individual clients hire React Native freelancers for builds, fixes and maintenance on platforms like Upwork, through referrals and through cold outreach. Agencies sometimes list roles as "Remote" with no country stated. This Dot Labs' Senior React Native Engineer ad, for example, says "Remote" without listing eligible countries (This Dot Labs job ad). In that case, ask before you spend an hour on the application.
| Route | Usual location rule | Usual arrangement |
|---|---|---|
| Talent marketplace | Worldwide, often with US overlap | Contractor |
| Product company | Named country list or region | Employee via EOR or contractor |
| African startup | Nigeria or Africa | Local employee or contractor |
| Freelance client | Varies, often unstated | Per project or hourly |
How to read the location line on a React Native job ad
The location line decides whether your application is read at all. Applicant tracking systems often reject people automatically when their country isn't on the list, however good the GitHub profile is.
| Label on the ad | What it usually means for a Nigerian |
|---|---|
| Worldwide, Anywhere, Global | Open in principle; check for time-zone or payment limits |
| EMEA | Europe, Middle East and Africa; Nigeria may still be excluded |
| Country list | Apply only if Nigeria is named |
| US only, Remote (US) | Not open; usually needs US work authorisation |
| Remote, Lagos or Nigeria | Open, usually with local-market pay |
For the label meanings in more detail, read our guides on what "worldwide remote" really means, EMEA in remote job ads and US-only and Canada-only restrictions.
What we saw when we checked live boards (October 2026)
- NoDesk's React Native page showed several high-paying senior React Native ads limited to the US, such as a Mattermost Senior React Native Engineer role listed at $165K to $245K and restricted to the US (NoDesk React Native jobs). Those figures are US pay for US residents.
- Many "Worldwide" React Native ads on the same NoDesk page were labelled as over 200 weeks old. Stale ads are a big time-waster on aggregators. Check the posting date and click through to the employer's own page before applying.
- Arc's "latest listings" were mostly tied to the United States, Brazil, Peru or Argentina, while Arc's own featured freelance roles were "Remote anywhere".
- Remote4Africa listed a contract "Mobile Software Engineering Expert" AI training project open in Nigeria and Egypt, posted 17 October. AI training work for experienced mobile developers is a newer route worth watching (see legitimate AI training jobs).
Ads change daily. Treat every example above as a snapshot, and confirm eligibility on the live ad.
What React Native employers test for in 2026
React Native has changed a lot in the last few years, and global employers screen for current practice. A CV that lists "React Native, Redux, 2019" reads as out of date.
The core stack
- TypeScript and modern React. Hooks, context, and a state approach you can defend (Redux Toolkit, Zustand or React Query for server state).
- Expo. Expo is now the default way many teams start and ship React Native apps. This Dot Labs' ad asks for "experience with the Expo ecosystem" alongside 3 or more years of React Native and at least one app shipped to the App Store or Google Play.
- The New Architecture. React Native's New Architecture has been on by default since version 0.76. It replaces the old asynchronous bridge with JSI (JavaScript Interface), uses Fabric for rendering and TurboModules for native modules (React Native New Architecture docs). Interviewers ask about it because library compatibility and migrations are live problems in real codebases.
- Native code basics. You don't need to be an iOS or Android engineer, but you should be able to read Swift or Kotlin, fix a Gradle or CocoaPods build, and wire up a native module. Turing's ad lists Android Studio, Xcode and Gradle experience.
- Testing and release. Jest for unit tests, Detox or Maestro for end-to-end tests, and an automated release pipeline. Turing lists Detox, Jest or Mocha as preferred.
What proves each skill to a remote employer
| Skill | Evidence a hiring manager trusts |
|---|---|
| Shipping | A live app on Google Play or the App Store |
| Expo and EAS | A public repo with EAS build and update config |
| Native modules | A small library or module you wrote |
| Performance | A write-up with before and after profiling |
| Testing | CI running Jest and an end-to-end suite |

Pay for global React Native candidates: what the sources show
Pay depends far more on hiring route and seniority than on the framework. The table below shows the only figures we could source. Read each one with its context.
| Source and route | Figure | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| US BLS, all software developers | $135,980 a year | US median, May 2025 |
| Mattermost on NoDesk, US-only | $165K to $245K a year | Senior ad range, US residents |
| Turing FAQ, global marketplace | $10,000 to $50,000 a year | Stated average, 3 years' RN experience |
| Remote4Africa, Lagos remote fintech | $13.3k to $18.5k a year | Ad range, posted 18 August 2026 |
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics median covers all software developers working in the US. It is a benchmark, not what a Nigeria-based developer will be offered. Remote pay for Nigeria-based workers is usually below US local pay, and the US-only ad ranges don't apply to you at all.
Converted at the house rate of ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN NFEM weighted average, 23 October 2026):
- The Lagos remote fintech range of $13,300 to $18,500 a year is about ₦18.1 million to ₦25.2 million a year, or roughly ₦1.5 million to ₦2.1 million a month, gross.
- Turing's stated $10,000 to $50,000 a year is about ₦13.6 million to ₦68.1 million a year, gross.
Contractor rates are gross. You cover your own tax, equipment, power and payment fees. For more pay detail by level, see our mobile developer salary guide.
What moves your rate up
- Senior-level ownership: architecture decisions, release management, mentoring.
- Fintech, health or crypto domain experience, where security and compliance matter.
- Strong written English and async habits, because they reduce a remote manager's risk.
- Willingness to overlap with US hours, which widens the pool of clients who will consider you.
Your setup in Nigeria: Mac, store accounts, devices and power
This section is where Nigerian React Native developers face problems their US competitors don't.
Do you need a Mac for React Native iOS work?
Not always. Xcode and the iOS Simulator run only on macOS, so day-to-day iOS debugging is far easier with a Mac. But Expo's EAS Build is a hosted service that builds app binaries for Expo and React Native projects, and iOS builds run on macOS machines in Expo's cloud (Expo EAS Build docs). Many developers start on a Windows or Linux laptop, test on a physical iPhone through Expo, and build iOS in the cloud. Check EAS pricing on Expo's site before you rely on it for client work.
For a full-time remote role, plan to buy a Mac (even a used Apple Silicon model) once the income is steady. Some employers supply equipment; ask at offer stage, and never pay an "employer" for equipment.
Paying for developer accounts from Nigeria
- Apple Developer Program: $99 a membership year, shown in local currency at enrolment. Individuals need an Apple Account with two-factor authentication and must enrol under their legal name (Apple Developer Program enrolment).
- Google Play Console: a one-time $25 registration fee. Google says prepaid cards aren't accepted, and personal accounts must complete app testing requirements and verify access to an Android device before publishing (Google Play Console help).
The prepaid-card rule matters because some virtual dollar cards are prepaid. Check with your card provider before paying, or use a naira debit card with international spending enabled. For dollar cards and payment apps, see how to receive and spend dollars in Nigeria.
Test devices
Keep at least one mid-range Android phone. Many crashes and performance problems only show up on lower-end Android hardware, and African users mostly use Android. An older iPhone that still gets current iOS updates covers the other side.
Power and internet
A remote team won't accept "NEPA took light" twice. Budget for an inverter or solar setup that keeps your laptop, router and phone running for a full shift. Use two internet sources, such as a fibre or Starlink connection plus a MiFi or phone hotspot on a different network. Metro and Gradle builds and dependency installs use a lot of data, so cache dependencies and avoid fresh installs on mobile data.
Time zones: which hours you're signing up for
Nigeria is on WAT (UTC+1) all year. What overlap means in practice:
| Team location | Lagos time for their 9am | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| London, winter (GMT) | 10am | Easy overlap |
| Central Europe, winter | 9am | Same time |
| US Eastern, winter (EST) | 3pm | Lagos is 6 hours ahead |
| US Pacific, winter | 6pm | Lagos is 9 hours ahead |
Turing asks for a 4-hour overlap with US time zones. With a US Eastern team in winter (from 1 November 2026), 9am to 1pm EST is 3pm to 7pm in Lagos. With a Pacific team, the same overlap runs from 6pm to 10pm in Lagos. Decide before applying whether you can sustain that, power backup included.
Europe-facing and African employers are kinder on hours, which is one reason "EMEA" ads that include Nigeria are worth hunting.
How to apply for remote React Native roles: a step-by-step plan
- Pick your route. Mid-level developers often start with marketplaces and African startups. Senior developers should also target product companies with country lists that include Nigeria.
- Ship one public app. Put a real app on Google Play first (lower fee, no Mac needed), then iOS through EAS when you can.
- Clean up your GitHub. Pin two or three repos with a README, screenshots, a short screen recording, setup steps and tests.
- Rewrite your CV for mobile. Lead with apps shipped, store links, user numbers you can verify, crash-free rates and release frequency.
- Filter for eligibility first. On every ad, read the location line before the job description. Skip US-only ads.
- Apply on the employer's own page. Aggregators copy ads and leave them up after they close.
- Prepare for the tests. Expect a live coding round in TypeScript, a React Native component exercise and a system design question about offline sync or navigation. Our mobile developer interview questions and take-home coding test guide cover these.
- Follow up once. A short, specific message after a week is fine. Then move on.
Example (hypothetical): a portfolio app that answers employer questions
A mid-level developer in Ibadan builds an expense-splitting app with Expo, TypeScript and React Query. It works offline with local storage and syncs when the network returns, which is a real need on Nigerian networks. They publish it on Google Play, add Detox tests running in GitHub Actions, and write a short post on how they moved one screen's list to FlashList and cut dropped frames. In one project they've shown shipping, offline thinking, testing and performance work.
Example (hypothetical): a short message to an agency with an unclear location rule
"Hello, I'm a React Native developer based in Lagos, Nigeria (WAT, UTC+1), with three apps live on Google Play and experience with Expo and the New Architecture. Your Senior React Native Engineer ad says 'Remote' without listing countries. Do you hire contractors based in Nigeria? If so, I'll apply today. Portfolio: [link]."
Contractor, employee or freelancer: what changes for you
Most global React Native work for Nigerians is contractor work. You invoice, you're paid gross, and you handle your own tax and benefits. Some companies hire through an employer of record (EOR), which makes you an employee of a local entity with a payslip and deductions. Freelance work is per project and usually less stable.
The difference affects your take-home pay, notice periods and what happens when a contract ends. Our contractor vs EOR employee guide explains each arrangement, and tax for remote workers in Nigeria covers what you owe under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025.
Red flags in React Native job offers
Developer jobs attract their own kinds of scams. Watch for:
- Fake take-home tests that ask you to run unknown code. Be careful when a "recruiter" sends a repo and asks you to install and run it on your main machine. Read the
package.jsonscripts first, and run unfamiliar projects in a separate user account or virtual machine without your wallets, passwords or client code. - Unpaid "trial projects" that look like real client work. A paid trial or a short, clearly artificial exercise is normal. Building a full feature for free is not.
- Requests for money. No real employer charges for onboarding, equipment, training or a "work permit" for remote work.
- Pay far above the ad's stated range or the market. Compare against the sourced figures above.
- Contact only on WhatsApp or Telegram, with no company email, website or careers page.

Frequently asked questions
Can I get a remote React Native job from Nigeria?
Yes, if the employer accepts applicants based in Nigeria. Talent marketplaces, African startups and companies with Nigeria on their country list do hire React Native developers remotely from Nigeria. Many high-paying US ads don't, so check the location line first.
Do I need a Mac to become a React Native developer?
No, not to start. You can build Android apps on Windows or Linux and build iOS apps through Expo's cloud-hosted EAS Build. Local iOS debugging and the iOS Simulator need a Mac, so most developers buy one once they have steady income.
How much do remote React Native developers earn in Nigeria?
It depends on the route. A remote React Native ad from a Lagos fintech listed $13.3k to $18.5k a year in August 2026, and Turing states an average of $10,000 to $50,000 a year for developers with 3 years' experience. US salaries, such as the BLS median of $135,980 for software developers, are benchmarks rather than offers.
Is React Native or Flutter better for getting remote jobs?
Both have remote demand. React Native suits developers who already know React and TypeScript, because the same skills transfer to web roles. If you're weighing the two, compare live ads in your target market and see our guide to finding remote Flutter developer jobs.
What does "Remote anywhere" mean on a React Native ad?
It usually means the employer doesn't restrict where you live, though time-zone overlap, payment methods or sanctions rules can still apply. Read the full ad for hour requirements before applying.
How many years of experience do global React Native roles want?
Many ask for about 3 years. The Turing and This Dot Labs ads we checked both set 3 or more years of React Native experience as the requirement, and Turing mentions rare exceptions for highly skilled candidates. Juniors usually do better with African startups, freelance work and shipping their own apps first.
Should I learn the React Native New Architecture?
Yes. It has been enabled by default since React Native 0.76, so current codebases and libraries assume it. Be ready to explain JSI, Fabric and TurboModules in plain terms in an interview.
Key takeaways
- Most high-paying React Native ads on global boards are US-only; the roles open to Nigerians come from marketplaces, region or country-list employers, African startups and freelance clients.
- Read the location line before the job description, and confirm eligibility on the employer's own page because aggregators keep stale ads.
- Employers in 2026 look for TypeScript, Expo, New Architecture knowledge, native code basics, testing and at least one app shipped to a store.
- Sourced pay for Nigeria-based or global React Native candidates sits far below US salaries, with one Lagos remote fintech ad at $13.3k to $18.5k a year.
- You can start without a Mac by using Expo's EAS Build, but budget for Apple's $99 yearly fee, Google's $25 fee and a card that isn't prepaid.
