What is the Dominica digital nomad visa?
Dominica's remote work route is the Work in Nature (WIN) Extended Stay Visa. It lets remote workers, freelancers and families live in Dominica for up to 18 months while working for companies or clients outside the country.
The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica launched WIN in 2021 and runs it through its own site, windominica.gov.dm. In October 2026 the official site and the online application portal were both live. Much of the site's wording dates from 2021 and 2022 and still mentions COVID-19 protocols, so email the WIN team to confirm anything that matters to your plans before you pay.
Who can apply for the Dominica digital nomad visa?
You can apply if you are at least 18, of good character with no criminal record, able to pay the fees, and able to do your work remotely. You apply either as a single person or as the head of a family.
WIN only covers remote work for companies and individuals not registered in Dominica. The official visa details say the work should be your usual line of work or profession. Businesses can also apply for several remote employees at once.
If your nationality needs a visa to enter Dominica, you must get that visa before applying for WIN. Nigerians do not fall into that group (see below).
How much income do you need for the Dominica digital nomad visa?
The official eligibility page asks that you expect to earn US$50,000 or more over the next 12 months, and/or have the means to support yourself and any family members coming with you.
If you are salaried, you send an employment letter. If your income is not from a regular salary, the WIN FAQ asks for a bank letter and recent bank statement, plus a certificate of good standing and/or a credit report.
How long can you stay, and can you renew it?
The WIN visa is a stamp issued when you arrive in Dominica, valid for up to 18 months from that date. You can travel in and out of Dominica as often as you like while it is valid.
The official site does not say whether WIN can be renewed or extended after 18 months. If you plan to stay longer, ask the WIN team before you apply.
How much does it cost?
- Application fee: US$100, non-refundable, paid when you apply.
- WIN visa fee, single applicant: US$800.
- WIN visa fee, family: US$1,200.
- One business with several applicants: US$800 plus US$500 for each additional employee, for businesses applying for four or more employees.
The visa fee is only due after approval, within 30 days of your approval letter. If you need more time, you can ask by email within those 30 days for one further 30-day extension.
What documents do you need?
You upload these for yourself and, where relevant, for each family member:
- the biographical page of a valid passport;
- proof of relationship to dependants, such as a marriage, birth or adoption certificate;
- police records for everyone aged 18 or over, from every country you have lived in during the past five years;
- a bank reference letter and an employment letter (or bank statement and certificate of good standing and/or credit report if you are self-employed);
- passport-sized photos for everyone aged 18 or over;
- health insurance valid in Dominica and covering everyone on the application;
- a visa for Dominica, only if your nationality needs one.
Documents not in English need a translation certified by a notary public. For health insurance, the FAQ asks for a certificate or policy showing you are covered, and proof from the insurer that it will pay claims made in Dominica.
How do you apply from Nigeria?
- Make sure your work is fully remote for a company or clients outside Dominica. If you need a foreign employer, start with remote jobs open to Nigerians.
- Get your Nigerian police record and any police records from other countries you lived in during the past five years.
- Register and complete the WIN Extended Stay Visa form at apply.windominica.gov.dm, upload your documents and pay the US$100 application fee.
- The WIN Tourism Department checks your file, then sends it for a recommendation and for due diligence by the Joint Regional Communications Centre. The Minister for National Security and Home Affairs makes the final decision.
- If approved, pay the WIN visa fee online within 30 days.
- Travel to Dominica within 90 days of approval and tell your WIN officer your flight details. The WIN stamp is issued on arrival.
Premium membership includes nomad visa assistance if you want a second pair of eyes on your documents.
How long does processing take?
The official processing page says you should receive an approval letter within 14 to 28 days of applying. The WIN FAQ gives a shorter target of 14 to 21 days. Plan for the longer figure.
Do you pay tax in Dominica on a digital nomad visa?
No. The WIN visa details say an income tax waiver is granted to people working remotely from Dominica under WIN. You remain responsible for income tax in your usual country of residence or tax domicile. This is general information, not tax advice.
WIN holders can also import personal and business items, tools of trade and household goods free of import duty and VAT during the first three months, paying only the customs service charge and environmental surcharge.
Can you bring your family?
Yes. A family application covers your spouse or partner, your children or stepchildren under 18, and any relative who depends on you entirely because of age or infirmity. Children can attend public, private or online school in Dominica; education is compulsory from age 5 to 16.
What to know before you move
- Time difference: Dominica is on Atlantic Standard Time (UTC-4) all year, five hours behind Lagos. A 2pm Lagos call is 9am in Dominica.
- Money: the local currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar. WIN fees are quoted in US dollars and paid online.
- Health: the WIN FAQ lists three public hospitals and one private medical centre. Local pharmacies need a prescription from a local doctor, so bring enough of any regular medication.
- Driving: WIN holders can get a Dominica driver's permit by showing their WIN stamp at the Traffic Department.
- Language: the WIN FAQ says English is the main language and most people also speak French Creole.
