Instructional designer salary for Nigerians

Instructional designers employed by Nigerian companies earn around ₦400,000 to ₦500,000 a month going by a 2026 Lagos ad, about $3,600 to $4,500 a year at roughly ₦1,333 to the dollar in October 2026. Remote work for foreign clients pays more; full-time IDs in India, the main offshore competition, average about $14,200 in Devlin Peck's self-reported survey.

US figures are much higher ($77,440 median for instructional coordinators at the BLS), but those jobs rarely hire from abroad.

Where these figures come from

Entry
Published range in a 2026 Lagos ad for an e-learning systems officer (instructional designer) at The Concept Group: ₦400,000 to ₦500,000 a month, converted at about ₦1,333 to the dollar. This is local employment, the usual first step.
Mid
Devlin Peck's self-reported survey (data to December 2023): full-time instructional designers in India averaged $14,213 base and $16,142 total compensation. India is the largest offshore ID market, so remote contracts for Nigerians tend to be priced near these figures.

How that compares

Reference points from other markets. Remote pay for people in Nigeria is usually below US and UK local pay.

  • US median, instructional coordinators (BLS, May 2025) (bls.gov)$77,440 a year
  • US average, full-time instructional designers (Devlin Peck survey) (devlinpeck.com)$83,347 a year
  • UK average, full-time instructional designers (Devlin Peck survey) (devlinpeck.com)£39,018 a year
  • Lagos e-learning ID ad, low end (2026) (myjobmag.com)₦400,000 a month

What affects your pay

  • Portfolio quality. Strong scenario-based work moves you out of the low-rate pool faster than years of experience.
  • Development skills. IDs who can also build in Storyline, edit video and handle SCORM issues earn more than design-only IDs on small teams.
  • Client location. UK, EU and US agencies pay more than local employers, but expect you to compete with Indian and Filipino developers.
  • Specialism. Compliance, software simulation, healthcare and sales training have steady demand.
  • Employee or contractor. Contractors are paid more per hour but cover their own tools (Articulate is $1,449 a year), downtime and taxes.

Negotiating your offer

Quote foreign clients per project or per finished learning minute, in dollars or pounds, and spell out the review rounds included. "Two rounds of revisions; further changes billed at $X an hour" saves arguments later.

If an employer wants you to use Articulate, ask them to provide the licence. Point to measurable results from earlier projects, such as higher quiz scores or fewer support tickets after training, when you ask for more.
