Remote accounts payable specialist salary for Nigerians
Remote AP roles advertised to people in Africa in 2025-2026 paid roughly $16,600 to $27,600 a year for clerk and specialist work, with one multi-country MEA role listed at up to $42,000. Most of the ads with published pay were for South African applicants, so read these as the going rate for African offshore AP staff rather than a Nigeria-specific figure.
For comparison, the US median for bookkeeping, accounting and auditing clerks, the group BLS puts AP clerks in, was $50,670 in May 2025.

Where these figures come from
- Entry
- Remote Recruitment's October 2026 ads for an Accounts Payable Clerk and a Purchase Ledger Clerk working UK hours from South Africa: R23,000 to R25,000 a month, converted at R16.58 to $1 (25 October 2026).
- Mid
- A 2026 AP Clerk / Accounting Assistant ad from Somewhere for a US client (2+ years, NetSuite and Ramp, US Eastern hours, South Africa only): $1,500 to $2,300 a month.
- Senior
- Horizons' Accounts Payable Specialist (MEA) role covering payroll and vendor payments in countries including Nigeria, 3+ years, NetSuite: listed at $18k to $42k a year on Dynamite Jobs. The role has closed and we could not confirm the range on the employer's own page.
How that compares
Reference points from other markets. Remote pay for people in Nigeria is usually below US and UK local pay.
- US median, bookkeeping, accounting and auditing clerks (BLS, May 2025) (bls.gov)$50,670 a year
What affects your pay
The system. NetSuite and modern spend tools like Ramp show up in the better-paid US ads. Xero, QuickBooks and Sage dominate the UK small-business ads, which pay less but are easier to enter.
Scope. Entering invoices pays the least. Owning payment runs, supplier reconciliations and accruals pays more, and multi-entity or multi-country payables (the Horizons role covered eight countries) pays more again.
Hours. US-hours roles mean late evenings in Lagos. The Somewhere ad, for instance, wanted availability during US Eastern business hours.
English. Several ads ask for near-native written English (one asked for C2 level). AP is a lot of supplier email, and employers pay for people who write clearly.
Negotiating your offer
Before you talk numbers, find out whether you are an employee through an employer of record or an independent contractor. A contractor rate should be higher because you cover your own power, internet, equipment, leave and tax.
Anchor on scope. If the role includes month-end accruals or more than one entity, say so when you name your figure: "For two entities and month-end, I'm looking for $2,200 a month."
Ask how often pay is reviewed and in which currency you are paid. A dollar salary paid into Payoneer or a domiciliary account protects you better than a naira figure fixed at today's rate.
Questions people ask
How much is a remote AP salary in naira?
At ₦1,325.72 to $1 on 25 October 2026, $1,800 a month is about ₦2.39 million. The rate changes often, so agree your pay in dollars or pounds where you can.
Do Nigerian AP specialists get paid less than South Africans for the same remote job?
We could not find published ads that pay the two differently for the same role. What we did find is that most offshore AP ads with published pay were restricted to South Africa, so Nigerians have fewer of these openings to apply for.
What gets an AP specialist the biggest pay rise?
Moving from processing to control: owning payment runs, multi-entity work and month-end. Adding a professional qualification such as ICAN or ACCA opens the move into general accounting.

Salaries for related roles
- Accounts Receivable Specialist
An accounts receivable (AR) specialist sends a company's invoices, matches incoming payments to them and chases customers who pay late. Remote AR and credit control jobs for UK and US companies are open to Africans, though many offshore ads with published pay are limited to South Africa, so Nigerians should read the location line before applying.
- Bookkeeper
A bookkeeper records a business's money in and out, reconciles bank accounts and keeps the ledgers ready for the accountant. It is one of the most realistic finance roles to do remotely from Nigeria, because UK, US and Australian small businesses already run their books in cloud software like Xero and QuickBooks Online.
