Remote Customer Support Jobs Using Zendesk, Intercom, Freshdesk and Salesforce

Remote customer support jobs using Zendesk are some of the easiest international support roles for Nigerians to find. The same goes for jobs on Intercom, Freshdesk and Salesforce Service Cloud, because so many ads name the help desk the team works in. You don't need years in Zendesk to apply. You need to show you understand ticket-based support and have practised in the tool or something close to it.
The harder part is spotting which of these ads accept applicants living in Nigeria. Many say "remote" but mean the US, the EU or a single country.
This guide explains what each platform tells you about the job. It walks through live ads we checked in October 2026 and shows how to learn the tools without an employer account, including what the certifications cost. It also covers how to search for these roles from Lagos, Abuja or anywhere else in Nigeria.
Quick answer
Remote support jobs that ask for Zendesk, Intercom (now called Fin), Freshdesk or Salesforce Service Cloud are open to Nigerians when the ad's location line includes Nigeria, Africa, EMEA or "all countries". Most ads accept "Zendesk or similar" experience. You can learn each tool through the vendor's own training: Zendesk's agent courses and Freshworks' training are free, and certificates are optional extras. Always confirm eligibility on the live ad.
What these help desk tools are and why job ads name them
A help desk (also called a ticketing system) is software that collects customer emails, chats, calls and social messages into one queue. Agents answer and track them there. When an ad says "experience with Zendesk", it means the employer runs support in that platform and wants someone who won't need basic training on tickets, macros and internal notes.
The four platforms below come up most often in English-language remote support ads. Each one hints at a different kind of employer.
| Platform | Typical employer | What agents mostly do |
|---|---|---|
| Zendesk | SaaS, e-commerce, fintech, marketplaces | Email and chat tickets, macros, help centre articles |
| Intercom (Fin) | Startups and SaaS products | In-app chat, AI bot handovers, conversational support |
| Freshdesk | Small and mid-sized firms, many outside the US | Email tickets, SLAs, canned responses |
| Salesforce Service Cloud | Larger firms, banks, insurers, enterprise software | Cases tied to customer records, strict workflows |
One naming change matters for your searches. According to Wikipedia's entry on the company, Intercom was renamed Fin in May 2026, after its AI customer service agent. Intercom's old training site now redirects to Fin Academy. Job ads written before the change, and many written since, still say "Intercom". As of October 2026, search for both names.
What a Zendesk support job looks like day to day
Platform-specific support jobs are still customer support jobs. The software decides how the work is organised, not how good you are at it. A typical shift on a Zendesk team looks like this:
- Opening a view (a filtered queue) such as "Unassigned, high priority" and taking the oldest ticket first
- Reading the customer's history in the side panel before replying
- Applying a macro (a saved reply with actions attached), then editing it so it doesn't read like a template
- Adding an internal note and @-mentioning engineering when a bug needs escalating
- Setting the ticket to Pending, On-hold or Solved correctly, because these statuses drive SLA (service level agreement) timers and reports
- Tagging tickets so the team can count how often an issue comes up
Intercom work leans more towards live chat inside an app, often taking over conversations that the Fin AI bot couldn't resolve. Freshdesk feels much like Zendesk. Salesforce Service Cloud is the most structured of the four: you work "cases" linked to account and contact records, and fields often have to be filled in a set order.
If you want the wider picture of the role itself (skills, path, pitfalls), read our guide to becoming a remote customer support specialist from Nigeria. For ticket handling habits in detail, see managing support tickets remotely.
Live job ads that name these tools (checked October 2026)
We opened the ads below on 27 October 2026 to see how real employers word tool requirements and location limits. These are examples, not recommendations. Ads close and eligibility changes, so check each one before you apply.
| Ad | Where applicants may live | Tools named |
|---|---|---|
| Wirex, Help Desk Agent | "Open to candidates from all countries", EU preferred | Freshdesk, Zendesk, Jira, ServiceNow |
| RemotePeople, Employee Support Specialist (EMEA) | EMEA list that includes Nigeria | Zendesk, Salesforce, ServiceNow (preferred) |
| Reliance Health, Senior Reliance Care Associate | Nigeria only | Zoho Desk; Zendesk, Freshdesk or Intercom experience |
| UK e-commerce brand, Customer Support Lead (RemoteEMEA) | Remote, EMEA | Zendesk or Intercom preferred |
Each ad teaches something different.
Wirex. The Wirex Help Desk Agent ad (posted 25 October 2026, applications due 24 December 2026) is a B2B contractor role. It asks for one year or more of customer or technical support and experience with ticketing platforms. Note the wording: open to all countries, but with an EU preference. A Nigerian can apply, but should expect competition from Europe-based candidates and lead with strong written English. Also note that "contractor" means you invoice and handle your own tax. Our explainer on contractor versus employee arrangements covers what that changes.
RemotePeople. The RemotePeople EMEA ad (posted 2 October 2026, apply by 1 December 2026) lists Nigeria among eligible countries. It gives the hiring time zone as "EMEA +/- 0 hours". This is a more senior role (three years or more in HR, payroll or employee support) and lists Zendesk and Salesforce as preferred, not required. It shows that help desk skills carry over into HR and payroll support, not only consumer support.
Reliance Health. The Reliance Health ad (posted 5 September 2026, apply before 4 November 2026) is remote but Nigeria only. The team uses Zoho Desk, yet it accepts helpdesk experience from Zendesk, Freshdesk or Intercom. This proves the point recruiters make all the time: knowing one help desk counts for the others. The ad also asks for NYSC completion or an exemption letter, which is common with Nigerian employers and rare with foreign ones.
RemoteEMEA. A Customer Support Lead listing on RemoteEMEA for an unnamed UK e-commerce brand is marked "Remote, EMEA". It names Zendesk or Intercom as preferred and shows $20,000 to $30,000 a year (as of October 2026). The employer isn't named on the board, so research the company once you reach the full ad before you share personal documents.
Zendesk, Intercom, Freshdesk and Salesforce: what changes for the job seeker
Zendesk support jobs
Zendesk is the name you'll see most often, so it's the best one to learn first. Ads usually say "Zendesk or similar", which means a hiring manager will accept Freshdesk, Help Scout, Gorgias or Zoho Desk if you can explain how you used it. Phrases to recognise in Zendesk ads: views, macros, triggers, SLAs, CSAT (customer satisfaction score), Guide (the help centre) and Talk (the phone channel).
If an ad mentions Zendesk Talk or "voice", expect phone work and possibly accent or call-quality checks. If it mentions only email and chat, it is a non-voice role. Those are often easier to start in from Nigeria because a dropped call matters more than a slow email reply. Our planned guide to non-voice support jobs for beginners goes further.
How to get a remote Intercom support job
Intercom (Fin) jobs are mostly at software startups, and the work is conversational: short, friendly, fast chat replies inside the product. To get one:
- Practise writing chat replies that are under three sentences, warm, and end with one clear next step.
- Learn how AI-first support works, because Fin teams expect agents to take over from the bot and to flag answers the bot got wrong. Fin Academy lists a "Fundamentals for support agents" course and a certification section. The page doesn't state prices, so check before you enrol (as of October 2026).
- Search for "Intercom", "Fin" and "conversational support" together.
- In your application, mention any experience reviewing or correcting chatbot answers. Startups value that highly now.
Startups that use Intercom often hire contractors and post in Slack communities and on company career pages as well as job boards. For that route, see our guide to finding remote jobs on company career pages.
How to find remote Freshdesk support jobs
Freshdesk is made by Freshworks, a company with large operations in India. Freshdesk ads skew towards small and mid-sized businesses and towards employers in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. That is useful for Nigerians, because those employers are often less fixed on US-only hiring. The Reliance Health and Wirex ads above both accept Freshdesk experience.
To find them, search job boards for "Freshdesk" plus "remote", then filter by Africa or Nigeria. On boards that support country pages (for example the Himalayas Nigeria Zendesk page), swap the tool name in the search. Freshworks offers free online training through Freshworks University (as of October 2026). Freshdesk's product page also has a "Start for free" sign-up, which gives you a working help desk to practise in.
Remote customer support jobs using Salesforce
Salesforce Service Cloud jobs are a different tier. They are common at banks, insurers, telecoms firms and large software companies, and they often come with stricter location rules because of data protection and regulation. Many Service Cloud agent roles are tied to a specific country. Read the location line carefully.
For agents, being comfortable inside Salesforce (finding a case, updating fields, logging activity) is usually enough. The paid credentials are aimed at admins and consultants, not front-line agents. According to Fast Lane's summary of the Service Cloud Consultant exam, the exam costs $200 plus taxes ($100 to retake), requires an active Salesforce Administrator credential first, and has 60 scored questions in 105 minutes with a 67% pass mark (as of October 2026). That is a career-change investment, not an entry ticket. If the admin side appeals to you, our planned guide to remote Salesforce administrator jobs covers that path.
How to learn Zendesk and the others without an employer account
You can become credible on these tools before anyone hires you. Here's what the vendors offer, as of October 2026:
| Platform | Free learning | Paid credential |
|---|---|---|
| Zendesk | On-demand agent courses for Support, Messaging, Talk and Chat (about 40 to 45 minutes each) | Omnichannel Agent Specialist exam, $199 |
| Freshdesk | Freshworks University online training | Check current certification terms |
| Intercom (Fin) | Fin Academy, incl. "Fundamentals for support agents" | Certification section; price not shown |
| Salesforce | Vendor learning content (check the cost) | Service Cloud Consultant, $200 (admin credential first) |
The Zendesk figures come from Zendesk's training catalogue, which lists the agent courses as "On-Demand (Free)". The same page lists the $199 Omnichannel Agent Specialist exam and a $499 Specialist Certification Bundle.
Is the $199 worth it? At the house rate of ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN, 23 October 2026), $199 is about ₦271,000. For most beginners, the free courses plus a practice account give better value. A certificate helps most when you already have support experience and want something verifiable to put next to "Zendesk" on your CV. It won't replace experience, and no hiring manager treats it as a guarantee of good customer writing.
A two-week practice plan (Example, hypothetical)
Example (hypothetical): Chiamaka has handled customer complaints at a Lagos retail store for a year and wants Zendesk-based remote roles.
- Days 1 to 3: complete Zendesk's free Support for Agents and Messaging for Agents courses.
- Days 4 to 6: sign up for a free Freshdesk account and set up a fake shop's help desk: five macros, two SLA rules, three tags.
- Days 7 to 10: write 20 practice tickets (refund, late delivery, angry customer, bug report) and answer each one in the tool, then reread your replies aloud for tone.
- Days 11 to 12: write two help centre articles for the fake shop.
- Days 13 to 14: screenshot the setup (no real customer data) and add a short case study to a one-page portfolio.
She can now honestly write "Hands-on with Zendesk (vendor training) and Freshdesk (built and ran a practice help desk)" on her CV, and talk through real examples in interviews.
How to find Zendesk jobs that accept Nigerian applicants
The tool name is your best keyword, because it filters out a lot of noise. Use these searches on job boards and on LinkedIn:
- "Zendesk" + "remote" + "Africa"
- "Freshdesk" OR "Zendesk" + "EMEA"
- "Intercom" OR "Fin" + "customer support" + "worldwide"
- "Salesforce Service Cloud" + "support" + "remote" (then check location carefully)
Then read the location line before anything else. Here is how to interpret what you'll find:
| Location line says | What it usually means for you |
|---|---|
| Nigeria, or Africa | You can apply |
| EMEA | Often yes; check the country list if one is shown |
| Worldwide / all countries | Yes, but check for "preferred" regions |
| US only, UK only, EU only | No, unless you already have the right to work there |
| Remote (no location) | Unclear; look for a time zone or country further down |
We explain the EMEA label in more detail in our planned guide to what EMEA means in a remote job ad. On WorkRemote.ng, the customer support listings show where applicants may live on each listing, and you can search them by keyword, so typing "Zendesk" narrows the list to ads that name it.
How to show help desk experience on your CV and in assessments
Hiring managers scan for the tool name, then for numbers. Put the tool inside an achievement, not only in a skills list.
Example (hypothetical) CV lines:
- "Resolved 40 to 60 email and chat tickets a day in Zendesk, keeping first-reply time under 2 hours."
- "Wrote and maintained 25 Freshdesk canned responses that cut repeat questions about delivery times."
- "Handled escalated Intercom chats from an AI bot, flagging incorrect bot answers to the product team weekly."
Only write numbers you can stand behind in an interview. If your experience was at a Nigerian bank or telco using an in-house system, say so plainly ("internal ticketing system similar to Zendesk") rather than claiming a tool you haven't used. Our planned guide on writing a CV for remote customer support jobs has full examples.
Many support employers send a written assessment before the interview: answering three to five sample tickets, sometimes inside a test help desk. They grade tone, accuracy, grammar and whether you followed the instructions. Practise with the free accounts above, and see our planned guide to passing a remote customer service assessment. For live interviews, our list of customer support interview questions includes the tool questions that come up most.
What remote Zendesk support jobs pay Nigeria-based workers
Knowing Zendesk doesn't set your pay. The employer's budget, your location, the role level and your contract type (contractor or employee) do. Remote pay for people living in Nigeria is usually below what the same employer pays staff in the US or UK, and many ads don't publish pay at all. Three of the four ads in our table didn't.
One that did: the RemoteEMEA Customer Support Lead listing shows $20,000 to $30,000 a year (as of October 2026). That works out at about $1,667 to $2,500 a month before any deductions. At the house rate of ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN NFEM weighted average, 23 October 2026), that is roughly ₦2.27 million to ₦3.41 million a month, gross. It is a lead role, so entry-level agent offers are typically lower. Our customer support specialist salary guide has fuller ranges and sources.
Salesforce Service Cloud and technical support roles that combine a help desk with product troubleshooting tend to sit higher than general email support. If you want that direction, see the technical support specialist career guide.
The Nigerian setup these jobs assume
Help desk jobs measure you on response times, so your setup is part of the job.
- Hours. EMEA-timed roles are the easiest fit. With UK clocks back on 25 October 2026, London is on GMT and Lagos is one hour ahead, so a 9am to 5pm UK shift runs 10am to 6pm in Lagos until late March. US-facing support is harder: Eastern time is 5 hours behind Lagos now and 6 hours behind from 1 November 2026, so a 9am to 5pm New York shift becomes 3pm to 11pm in Lagos.
- Power. An inverter or solar backup that can carry a laptop and router through an outage is the minimum for chat roles, where a five-minute drop can breach an SLA.
- Internet. Two connections (for example a main ISP plus a MiFi or phone hotspot on a different network). Some employers ask for a speed-test screenshot.
- Getting paid. Contractor roles usually pay through Deel, Remote, Payoneer, Wise or direct transfer. Our guide to receiving dollar payments in Nigeria compares the options and fees.
Red flags in "Zendesk job" ads
Popular tool names attract scammers because they make an ad look professional. Be suspicious when:
- Someone asks you to pay for "Zendesk access", a "company help desk licence" or a training fee before you start. Employers give agents accounts at no cost.
- The "interview" happens only on Telegram or WhatsApp text and ends with a job offer.
- You are asked for your BVN, bank login or a copy of your passport before any verifiable interview with a named company.
- The pay is high for "simple ticket replies, no experience needed" and the company has no website or careers page.

Frequently asked questions
Can Nigerians apply for remote Zendesk support jobs?
Yes, when the ad's location line includes Nigeria, Africa, EMEA or all countries. Many Zendesk-based roles are limited to the US, UK or EU, so read the eligibility line and any country list before applying. As of October 2026 we found live Zendesk-related ads open to Nigeria, including an EMEA role at RemotePeople and a Nigeria-only role at Reliance Health.
Do I need Zendesk experience to get a remote customer support job?
No, not always. Most ads say "Zendesk or similar", and employers such as Reliance Health accept experience in Zendesk, Freshdesk, Intercom or Zoho Desk interchangeably. If you have never used any help desk, take Zendesk's free agent courses and set up a free practice help desk so you can describe real hands-on work.
Is the Zendesk certification worth paying for?
It can be, but not for most beginners. As of October 2026 the Omnichannel Agent Specialist exam costs $199 (about ₦271,000 at ₦1,362 to $1, CBN rate of 23 October 2026), while Zendesk's agent courses are free. The certificate adds most value when you already have support experience and want verifiable proof of tool skill.
Is Intercom the same as Fin?
Yes. Intercom was renamed Fin in May 2026, after its AI customer service agent, and its training site now redirects to Fin Academy. Many job ads still say "Intercom", so search for both names when looking for these roles.
How do I get a remote Intercom support job with no Intercom experience?
Show you can write short, warm chat replies and take over from an AI bot. Complete the support agent fundamentals material on Fin Academy, practise chat-style replies, and mention any experience correcting chatbot answers. Apply to startups and SaaS companies, which use Intercom most.
Are Salesforce Service Cloud support jobs open to Nigerians?
Some are, but fewer than Zendesk or Freshdesk roles. Service Cloud is common in banks, insurers and large firms, which often restrict roles to particular countries for regulatory reasons. Agents usually need only working familiarity with Salesforce; the $200 Service Cloud Consultant exam (as of October 2026) is for admins and consultants and requires the Administrator credential first.
Which is easier to learn first: Zendesk or Freshdesk?
Zendesk is the better first choice because it appears in the most ads, and its agent courses are free. Freshdesk works in a very similar way and offers a free sign-up, so it is a practical place to practise. Once you know one, the other takes days rather than weeks to pick up.
Key takeaways
- Ads that name Zendesk, Intercom (Fin), Freshdesk or Salesforce Service Cloud are standard support roles; the tool tells you about the employer, not about your qualifications.
- "Zendesk or similar" is the norm, and live ads in October 2026 accepted Zendesk, Freshdesk, Intercom and Zoho Desk experience interchangeably.
- Eligibility depends on the location line: Nigeria, Africa, EMEA or all countries means you can apply; US-only or EU-only usually means you can't.
- Zendesk's agent courses and Freshworks' training are free; Zendesk's agent exam ($199) and Salesforce's Service Cloud Consultant exam ($200) are optional, as of October 2026.
- Intercom is now Fin, so search for both names.
- Backup power, two internet connections and EMEA-friendly hours matter as much as tool skills for help desk roles.
Next steps
Spend this week on the free Zendesk agent courses and a practice help desk. Then rewrite two CV lines so the tool sits inside an achievement. When you're ready, search the WorkRemote.ng remote job listings for "Zendesk", "Freshdesk" or "Intercom" and check where applicants may live on each listing. After a search, use "Get email updates" to receive a free daily email of new matching jobs. Applying is always free. If you want a member of our team to rewrite your CV and LinkedIn for support roles, see what our CV review includes as part of Premium.
