How to Find Remote YouTube Channel Management Jobs
Where to find remote YouTube channel manager jobs, how to check if Nigerians can apply, what employers expect, real pay from 2026 ads and scams to avoid.

You find remote YouTube channel management jobs in four places: job boards that tag their listings by region, the ads that media companies and agencies post on their own applicant tracking systems (ATS), freelance marketplaces, and direct pitches to creators whose channels you can show you'd improve. The jobs are real and some are open to people in Nigeria, but plenty are quietly limited to the US, the UK or one time zone. So the real skill is spotting which ads you can actually win.
This guide explains what the job involves and the titles it hides behind. It shows how to search, how to read location rules, and how to build proof when nobody has hired you yet. It also covers what the pay looks like from Nigeria and how to avoid the scams that target this niche. Every employer we name comes from an ad we opened in October 2026, and you should check the live ad before applying.
Quick answer
To find remote YouTube channel management jobs, search titles like "YouTube Channel Manager", "YouTube Strategist" and "YouTube Manager (Contract)" on remote boards, on Greenhouse, Lever and Workable, and on freelance platforms. Then check each ad for country, time-zone and work-authorisation limits. Win interviews with a case study that shows a channel's before-and-after numbers from YouTube Studio. Never pay to apply, and never hand over a channel password.
What a remote YouTube channel manager actually does
A YouTube channel manager is the person who gets a channel's videos found and watched, and who keeps it growing, so the creator or brand can concentrate on making content. In most ads the work splits into four parts:
- Packaging: titles, descriptions, tags, playlists and thumbnail briefs, plus A/B testing thumbnails.
- Publishing: running the upload calendar for long-form videos and Shorts, scheduling, end screens and community posts.
- Analytics: weekly reports on views, click-through rate (CTR), audience retention, traffic sources and subscribers, turned into briefs for the editor.
- People: giving feedback to editors, thumbnail designers and on-camera talent, and handling comments.
The ads we opened in October 2026 match that split. The YouTube Strategist & Channel Manager role at TheSoul Group asks the hire to track weekly views, retention, CTR and traffic sources, run a publishing calendar of two long-form videos and 14 Shorts a week, and A/B test thumbnails. Revero's contract role covers uploads, metadata, thumbnails, SEO and feedback to the editor, for 5 to 10 hours a week.
Editing is usually a separate job. Some small creators want one person to do both, but the better-paid manager roles say outright that the focus is strategy and analytics. If editing is your main skill, read our guide to remote video editor careers and the planned article on YouTube video editing jobs for beginners.
Job titles to search for
Few employers use the same title, so searching only "YouTube channel manager" misses a lot of jobs. Run each of these titles:
| Title in the ad | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| YouTube Channel Manager | Day-to-day packaging, publishing and reporting |
| YouTube Strategist | Growth plans, analytics, content ideas |
| YouTube Manager (Contract) | Part-time channel care for a brand |
| Content Operations Specialist | Calendar, uploads, workflow across channels |
| Network or Portfolio Channel Manager | Several channels at a media company |
| Social Media Content Manager | YouTube plus TikTok and Instagram |
| YouTube Producer | Mix of production and channel management |
Also try "YouTube growth", "Shorts manager" and "channel operations". Ads called "social media manager" often include YouTube too. Our social media manager career guide covers that wider role.
Who hires remote YouTube channel managers
Employers fall into five groups, and each hires differently. Knowing which one you're applying to tells you what proof to send.
| Employer type | How they hire | What they want to see |
|---|---|---|
| Media companies and channel networks | ATS ads (Greenhouse, Lever, Workable) | Multi-channel results, analytics |
| Agencies managing creators | ATS ads, LinkedIn, referrals | Client handling, reporting |
| Brands with a YouTube channel | Contract ads, often part-time | SEO, consistency, brand safety |
| Individual creators | Direct messages, X, freelance sites | Ideas for their channel specifically |
| "Faceless" channel owners | Freelance boards, Google Forms | Speed, volume, revenue metrics |
Media companies and networks pay the most steadily but ask for proof of experience. The TheSoul ad asks for three or more years of hands-on YouTube growth with before-and-after results, and Revero also asks for three years. Individual creators are the easiest to approach as a beginner, because they judge you on whether you understand their channel, not on your CV.
Where to search, with search strings that work
Remote job boards
Use boards that show where applicants may live. On WorkRemote's content and social media listings, each job shows the company, its website and where applicants may live, so the location check is already on the page.
International boards help too, but read them carefully. In October 2026, Dynamite Jobs' "Remote Jobs in Nigeria" page listed TheSoul Group's YouTube Strategist & Channel Manager role at $50k to $70k a year. It also showed Revero's YouTube Video Editor contract at $25 to $35 an hour. However, the individual listings on that page didn't show eligibility text. A country page tells you a job might suit you, not that it definitely does, so open the original ad.
Applicant tracking systems
Companies post their own ads on systems like Greenhouse, Lever and Workable, and Google indexes many of them. Paste these into Google:
site:job-boards.greenhouse.io "YouTube" manager remotesite:jobs.lever.co "YouTube" strategist remotesite:apply.workable.com "YouTube channel manager""YouTube channel manager" remote "worldwide" OR "EMEA" OR "Africa"
Then sort the results by date in your head. Plenty of indexed ads are months old. The Forbes Advisor YouTube Channel Manager ad on Built In, for example, still shows up in search, but the page says it was removed in October 2025.
Freelance platforms and direct outreach
Upwork, Contra and similar sites carry short contracts such as "optimise my last 50 videos" or "run uploads for three months". These are a practical way to get your first paid client. Fees and withdrawal options change, so check the platform's own help pages. Our guide to receiving dollars in Nigeria compares the payout routes.
Direct outreach works best with creators who have between a few thousand and a few hundred thousand subscribers and post regularly, but whose packaging is weak (plain thumbnails, vague titles, no playlists). They have enough audience to gain from your help and are often too busy to do the work themselves.
How to read location rules in a YouTube manager ad
The word "remote" alone doesn't mean anyone, anywhere. Before you write a cover letter, check these four things.
- The location line. "Hiring remotely in Wilmington, DE, USA", the wording on the Forbes Advisor ad, points to a US hire. "Work from anywhere" is open.
- Work authorisation. "Must be authorised to work in the US" means US citizens or permit holders only. A Nigerian passport won't do, however good your channel results are.
- Contract type. An "independent service-provider agreement" means you'd be a contractor, not an employee. That is the route through which most international teams take on people in Nigeria. TheSoul's ad says "full-time" in its header but describes an independent service-provider agreement, a remote-first team and collaborators in 85+ countries. It doesn't list eligible countries, so ask before you invest hours in a test task. Our page on contractor versus employee arrangements explains what changes for you.
- Time-zone overlap. TheSoul asks for a couple of hours' overlap with US Pacific time when needed. Pacific is 8 hours behind Lagos until US clocks change on 1 November 2026, then 9 hours behind. So 9am in Los Angeles is 5pm in Lagos now and 6pm in Lagos from November.
If an ad says nothing about location, it's fine to send a short question to the recruiter: "I'm based in Lagos, Nigeria (WAT, UTC+1) and work as a contractor. Is this role open to my location?" A clear yes or no saves you a wasted application.
What skills and proof employers expect
YouTube rewards outcomes you can measure, so hiring managers want numbers, not adjectives. The skills that come up across the ads we opened:
- Reading YouTube Studio analytics: CTR, average view duration, retention graphs, traffic sources, returning viewers.
- Writing titles and descriptions that match what people search for, using tools like vidIQ or TubeBuddy (the Forbes Advisor ad named YouTube Studio, VidIQ and TubeBuddy).
- Briefing and testing thumbnails, then explaining why one version won.
- Running a calendar with client approvals, often with review tools like Frame.io.
- Knowing YouTube's monetisation rules and advertiser-friendly content guidelines.
Understand the YouTube Partner Program
Many roles, especially with new channels, are judged on reaching monetisation. As of October 2026, YouTube's help centre says a channel needs 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 valid public long-form watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million valid Shorts views in the last 90 days. Meeting the numbers doesn't guarantee approval, because a policy review follows. The same page says updated YPP terms take effect on 1 February 2027.
Nigeria is on YouTube's list of countries where creators can apply to the YouTube Partner Program. That matters if you plan to build your own practice channel and want to talk confidently about monetisation in interviews.
Know how channel access works
A real employer gives you access through YouTube Studio's channel permissions, not by sending a password. YouTube's help page lists the roles: Owner, Manager, Editor, Editor (Limited), Subtitle Editor, Viewer and Viewer (Limited). A Manager can edit, upload, delete content and manage permissions, but can't delete the channel. An Editor can upload and publish but can't manage permissions or delete published content. Invited people don't need access to the owner's Google Account, and invitations expire after 30 days.
Ask for the lowest role that lets you do the work, usually Editor. Mentioning this in an interview shows you take the client's account security seriously, and that counts for a lot.
Building proof when no one has hired you yet
Most applicants from Nigeria don't fall short on skill. They fall short on evidence. Fix that in four to eight weeks.
- Run your own channel or a friend's. Pick a niche you can post in weekly. Keep notes on every title change and thumbnail test.
- Do a free audit for a real creator. Choose a small channel, write a two-page audit (packaging problems, three rewritten titles, two thumbnail concepts, a playlist plan) and send it. Some will ask you to do the work, and some will pay.
- Write one case study. Show the starting numbers, what you changed and the result, with YouTube Studio screenshots (with the owner's permission). One honest case study beats a long list of skills.
- Package it. A one-page portfolio on Notion or Google Docs is enough: case study, sample audit, sample weekly report.
The planned article on building a digital marketing portfolio without clients goes further on portfolio formats.
Example (hypothetical): a short pitch to a creator
"Hi Ada, I run YouTube packaging for small education channels. Your last ten videos average a long watch time but the thumbnails all look alike, which may be holding back clicks. I've attached three thumbnail concepts and rewritten titles for your two newest videos. If you'd like, I can manage packaging and uploads for one month as a paid trial, with a weekly report from YouTube Studio. I'm in Lagos (UTC+1), so your videos can be ready before your mornings."
It names a specific problem, includes free work they can see straight away, and offers a small, low-risk first step.
What remote YouTube channel management jobs pay from Nigeria
Pay varies widely, and published figures are few. Here is what the ads we opened in October 2026 showed. Naira figures use ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN NFEM weighted average, 23 October 2026), rounded.
| Source and role | Pay shown | Rough naira equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| Dynamite Jobs listing, TheSoul Group strategist | $50,000 to $70,000 a year | ₦5.7m to ₦7.9m a month |
| OnlineJobs.ph ad, multi-channel manager | $1,000 to $2,000 a month plus bonus | ₦1.36m to ₦2.72m a month |
| Dynamite Jobs listing, Revero YouTube editor contract | $25 to $35 an hour | Depends on hours |
The TheSoul figure comes from the Dynamite Jobs listing. The ad itself says compensation is agreed individually, so don't assume the top of the range. The OnlineJobs.ph ad is from a founder who describes it as "fully remote, work from anywhere" at $1,000 to $2,000 a month base, with bonuses tied to channel profit. It was last updated in September 2025, so treat it as a benchmark, not a vacancy.
These are figures from ads, not market averages. Senior strategists at media companies tend to sit near the top. Part-time brand contracts and solo creators often pay a flat monthly retainer. For a broader view of the field, see our social media manager salary guide and the planned piece on social media jobs that pay in dollars. Tax applies to this income too, as our guide to remote work tax in Nigeria explains.
Nigeria-specific setup for this job
YouTube management is deadline work. A Thursday upload that goes out late because NEPA took light is a problem you can avoid.
- Power: an inverter or solar backup sized for your laptop and router, so scheduled publishing and live-stream monitoring don't depend on your DisCo band.
- Internet: two connections, such as a fixed line or Starlink plus a MiFi, or a phone hotspot as backup. Uploading long-form video files on weak data is slow and expensive, so ask whether the editor uploads drafts directly and you only handle metadata and publishing.
- Time zones: UK creators are one hour behind Lagos in winter (GMT) and on the same time in summer. US East Coast creators are 5 hours behind in summer and 6 hours behind from 1 November 2026. Schedule uploads for the audience's peak hours, not yours.
- Payment: most clients pay contractors by Wise, Payoneer, Deel or a platform payout. Set up at least one route before your first invoice.
Scams and red flags in YouTube job ads
The "faceless YouTube automation" trend attracts schemes that sell training dressed up as jobs. Walk away if you see any of these:
- A "job" that requires you to buy a course, a tool licence or a "starter channel" first.
- Requests for a creator's Google password or two-step verification codes, instead of an invitation through YouTube Studio permissions.
- Pay promised from AdSense revenue on a channel that isn't yet monetised, with no base fee.
- Recruiters who move you to Telegram or WhatsApp immediately and never use a company email or ATS.
- Endless unpaid "test tasks" that look like a full month of channel work.
Our guide to remote job scams in Nigeria covers the wider patterns and what to do if something feels off.
Frequently asked questions
Can a Nigerian work remotely as a YouTube channel manager for a foreign company?
Yes, if the employer accepts contractors or employees based in Nigeria and doesn't require local work authorisation. Many YouTube roles are offered on a contract basis, which makes them easier to fill internationally. Confirm eligibility on the live ad or with the recruiter before applying.
Do I need a degree to get a YouTube channel manager job?
No. None of the ads we opened in October 2026 asked for a degree. They asked for years of hands-on channel growth and measurable results, so a strong case study matters more than a certificate.
How much does a remote YouTube channel manager earn?
It varies from a few hundred dollars a month on small retainers to $50,000 to $70,000 a year on one media company listing we found in October 2026. Ads aimed at international contractors often show $1,000 to $2,000 a month. Your pay depends on how many channels you run, your proven results and whether the role includes strategy or just uploads.
Is YouTube channel management the same as video editing?
No. A channel manager handles packaging, publishing, analytics and the team, while an editor cuts the videos. Small creators sometimes combine the two, but larger employers hire them separately.
What tools should a YouTube channel manager know?
YouTube Studio and its analytics come first, then keyword tools such as vidIQ or TubeBuddy, a thumbnail tool like Canva or Photoshop, and a review tool like Frame.io. Project tools such as Notion, Trello or Google Sheets for the publishing calendar come up often too.
Should I give a client my login or ask for theirs?
Neither. Ask the owner to invite you through YouTube Studio's channel permissions, ideally as an Editor. Access can then be removed without anyone changing passwords, and you never touch their Google Account.
Can I get YouTube channel manager experience without a job?
Yes. Run your own channel or a friend's, offer a paid trial month to a small creator, and write up one honest before-and-after case study with screenshots. That evidence is what most hiring managers ask for.
Are faceless YouTube channel jobs legitimate?
Some are genuine contract roles that pay a monthly base, like the multi-channel manager ad we reviewed. Others are course sales dressed up as jobs. If you're asked to pay first, or your pay depends entirely on future AdSense revenue, treat it as a red flag.
Key takeaways
- Search several titles (channel manager, YouTube strategist, content operations, YouTube manager contract), not just one.
- Check every ad for location, work authorisation, contract type and time-zone overlap before applying.
- Proof wins: a case study with YouTube Studio numbers beats a list of skills.
- Get access through YouTube Studio channel permissions, never a password.
- Published pay ranged from about $1,000 a month to $50,000 to $70,000 a year in the ads we saw, but most roles are negotiated individually.
- Avoid any "job" that needs an upfront payment or pays only from future ad revenue.
