Remote SEO specialist salary for Nigerians
Remote SEO pay for Nigerians splits into two very different markets. Ads aimed only at Nigeria pay little, from about $4,600 to $9,700 a year, while worldwide agency and SaaS roles we saw in October 2026 paid $30,000 to $70,000 at mid level and up to $85,000 for leads.
The gap is mostly about proof and competition: worldwide roles are open to everyone, so they hire people who can show strong results and communicate well with international clients.

Where these figures come from
- Entry
- Plane's 10th percentile to median for remote SEO specialists in Nigeria ($4,632 to $9,714). A Nigeria-only SEO ad from SRR Group on Jobgether offered $4 an hour, about $8,300 a year full-time, which sits inside this band.
- Mid
- Worldwide ads on Himalayas from Discovered: SEO/AEO Manager at $30K to $70K and SEO Strategist at $45K to $70K, both preferring hours within about four hours of GMT.
- Senior
- Discovered's worldwide SEO/AEO Lead ad at $50K to $85K, and Digible's SEO Strategist at $70K to $87K (listed as open to all countries, though its team is US-based).
How that compares
Reference points from other markets. Remote pay for people in Nigeria is usually below US and UK local pay.
- US median, market research analysts and marketing specialists, which includes search marketing strategists (BLS, May 2025) (bls.gov)$78,760 a year
- UK average, SEO specialist (Indeed UK, self-reported) (uk.indeed.com)£35,871 a year
- Remote SEO specialist in Nigeria, median (Plane estimate) (plane.com)$9,714 a year
- Nigeria local, SEO analyst, lower 10% cut-off (Paylab, gross) (paylab.com)₦173,996 a month
- Nigeria local, SEO analyst, upper 10% cut-off (Paylab, gross) (paylab.com)₦410,846 a month
What affects your pay
Who the ad is aimed at. Ads limited to Nigeria often treat SEO as cheap outsourced work. Worldwide ads compete on skill and pay far more. Applying to both is sensible while you build a track record.
Technical depth. In the UK, Prospects notes freelance SEOs charging £240 to £320 a day, and up to £800 a day for mid-level technical work. Migrations, JavaScript sites and large e-commerce catalogues pay better than blog optimisation.
AI search experience. Several 2026 ads were titled "SEO/AEO", meaning answer engine optimisation. People who can show work on AI visibility are being hired into those better-paid roles.
Employment type. Most roles are contracts. If a role is full-time employment through an employer of record, the pay may look similar but you may get paid leave and health cover.
Negotiating your offer
Bring your results to the pay conversation. "I grew organic sign-ups from 300 to 1,100 a month" is a better argument than years of experience.
For agency roles, ask how many client accounts you'd handle. A $45K role with four accounts is a different job from a $45K role with twelve.
If you're on an hourly contract, propose a monthly retainer once you've proven yourself. It gives you predictable income and the employer predictable cost.
Questions people ask
What's a fair hourly rate for a Nigerian SEO freelancer?
It depends on the work. Nigeria-only ads we saw offered around $4 an hour, while worldwide salaried roles worked out to roughly $15 to $40 an hour. Price technical audits and migrations higher than routine content work.
Do SEO specialists in Nigeria earn more working remotely?
Usually, yes, once they reach worldwide roles. Paylab's survey puts most local SEO analysts between about ₦174,000 and ₦411,000 a month gross.
Why are some remote SEO salaries so low?
Some companies target Nigeria specifically to pay less. The same skills can earn several times more on worldwide ads if you can prove results and communicate well.
Is the Plane salary figure reliable?
Treat it as a rough guide. Plane is a payroll company and doesn't publish how its estimates are calculated, so we check it against real job ads.

Salaries for related roles
- Content Marketing Manager
A content marketing manager plans, commissions and edits a company's articles, newsletters and guides so they bring in customers, then reports on what worked. It's a mid-level role that Nigerians do remotely for SaaS, fintech and HR-tech companies, usually after a few years as a writer or editor.
- Digital Marketing Specialist
A digital marketing specialist runs a company's paid ads, email, social media and analytics to bring in leads and sales. You can do it fully remotely from Nigeria, mostly for small foreign companies and agencies, but they hire on campaign results, not certificates.
- PPC Specialist
A PPC specialist runs pay-per-click advertising, mainly Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising search campaigns, and makes every click earn its cost. You can do it remotely from Nigeria for agencies and online businesses, but you'll need real ad accounts to show, because employers hire on results.
- Content Writer
A content writer researches and writes articles, blog posts, guides, newsletters and web pages that help a business get found and trusted. Nigerians do this remotely for clients all over the world, but the low end of the market is crowded and poorly paid, so the writers who earn well pick a subject and learn SEO.
