Remote legal assistant salary for Nigerians
Remote legal assistant roles open to applicants in any country paid $1,150 to $1,220 a month in October 2026, about $13,800 to $14,640 a year, according to published ads from the US legal staffing company Job Duck. One payroll provider, Plane, separately estimates the median base pay for remote legal assistants in Nigeria at $12,650 a year.
US legal secretaries and administrative assistants earned a median of $55,570 in May 2025, so remote international pay is a fraction of US pay, but well above most local legal support roles in naira.

Where these figures come from
- Entry
- Job Duck's September and October 2026 Legal & Administrative Assistant, Family Law Legal Assistant and Litigation Legal Assistant ads, open to all countries, on US Eastern or Pacific hours: $1,150 to $1,220 a month. Experience was preferred, not required.
- Mid
- Job Duck's October 2026 Case Manager ad, the next step up for experienced legal support staff (prior litigation paralegal or case manager experience required), open to all countries: $1,220 to $1,320 a month.
How that compares
Reference points from other markets. Remote pay for people in Nigeria is usually below US and UK local pay.

- Nigeria median, remote legal assistant (Plane estimate) (plane.com)$12,650 a year
- UK legal secretary, starter salary (National Careers Service) (nationalcareers.service.gov.uk)£24,000 a year

What affects your pay
One employer dominates the published data. Most remote legal assistant ads with pay that we found came from Job Duck, which uses the same band across many roles. Other firms may pay more or less; many do not publish pay at all.
Moving into case work. The clearest pay step in the ads was from legal assistant ($1,150 to $1,220 a month) to case manager ($1,220 to $1,320), which needs paralegal-level experience.
Hours. Pacific time roles push your day past midnight in Lagos. They did not pay more in the ads we saw, so weigh the cost of night work honestly.
Direct clients. Working directly for a US solo attorney as a freelance legal assistant can pay differently from staffing roles, but comes without the staffing company's steady monthly pay.
Negotiating your offer
Staffing company bands are often fixed at entry. Ask instead about the review timeline and what moves you to the next band, such as case manager or paralegal duties.
If you freelance for attorneys directly, price by the month for a defined scope (for example, intake and calendar for one attorney, 30 hours a week) rather than by the hour, and agree payment in dollars.
Ask whether US public holidays are paid and how sick days work. On a monthly salary of around $1,200, a handful of unpaid days makes a noticeable difference.
Questions people ask
How much is $1,200 a month in naira?
About ₦1.59 million at ₦1,325.72 to $1 on 25 October 2026. Rates move, so keep your pay agreed in dollars.
Do bilingual legal assistants earn more?
Not in the Job Duck ads we checked, where bilingual and English-only roles shared the same pay band. Being bilingual mainly gives you more roles to apply for.
How do I get a pay rise as a remote legal assistant?
Take on case work. Moving to case manager or paralegal duties was the clearest route to higher pay in the published ads.

Salaries for related roles
- Paralegal
A paralegal does legal work under a lawyer's supervision: drafting documents, managing case files and deadlines, preparing filings and handling discovery or records. US law firms hire remote paralegals from Nigeria and other countries, mostly in litigation, personal injury and immigration, but you work under US attorneys and cannot give legal advice, even if you are called to the Nigerian Bar.
- Executive Assistant
An executive assistant is the right hand of one founder or senior leader, managing their calendar, inbox, travel, meetings and follow-ups with a high level of trust. Remote EA roles are open to Nigerians, mostly at $12,000 to $18,000 a year in 2026 ads, and they usually want a year or more of assistant experience first.
- Virtual Assistant
A virtual assistant runs a client's admin from a distance: inbox, calendar, bookings, CRM updates, simple graphics and follow-ups. It is one of the most realistic remote jobs to land from Nigeria without a degree, but honest starting pay in 2026 agency ads is $6 to $7 an hour.
- Administrative Assistant
An administrative assistant keeps an office's paperwork, records, scheduling and correspondence in order. Remotely, Nigerians usually do this work for US law firms, clinics and small businesses through staffing agencies, under titles like legal assistant, intake specialist or admin coordinator, at roughly $1,060 to $1,220 a month in 2026 ads.
