Remote creative project manager jobs exist, and a small share are open to people living in Nigeria. Most ads, though, are restricted to one country or time zone, so read the location line before anything else. The job itself is keeping design, video and content work on time and on brief. You run the intake, the timelines, the feedback rounds, the approvals and the final delivery, usually in Asana or a similar tool.
Creative project management suits Nigerians who have already worked in agencies, media houses or content teams. Lagos agencies run campaigns under tight deadlines with clients who change their minds, and that is exactly what this job manages. This guide covers what the role involves, which job titles to search, what the real ads we checked in October 2026 require, what pay looks like, and how to build the proof that gets you shortlisted from Nigeria.
Quick answer
A remote creative project manager plans and tracks creative work (ads, videos, social content, brand assets) from brief to delivery. Nigerians can get these jobs when the ad accepts applicants from Nigeria, Africa, EMEA or anywhere. Many ads are US-only or limited to a single country. Employers usually ask for two to three or more years in agency or creative production, fluency in Asana-style tools, and strong written English. A design degree is not normally required.
What a creative project manager actually does
A creative project manager owns the process, not the creative idea. The creative director or designers decide what the work looks like. You decide when it happens, who does it, how feedback flows and whether it ships on time.
The ads we opened in October 2026 describe very similar daily work:
- Turning a client or stakeholder request into a clear creative brief
- Building a workback schedule (a timeline planned backwards from the deadline) and flagging risks early
- Assigning tasks to designers, video editors, copywriters and outside agencies
- Running feedback and approval rounds so comments don't arrive in five different places
- Tracking scope, so extra requests become a new task with a new deadline rather than free work
- Delivering final files in the right formats and keeping the asset library organised
- Sending status updates to clients or internal teams
At Superside, a remote creative services company, the Creative Project Manager ad (live when we checked in October 2026) talks about managing more than 20 creative projects at the same time across client accounts. That number tells you what the job really demands: juggling many small projects, not running one big one.
Creative project manager vs creative director vs IT project manager
People mix these roles up, and applying for the wrong one wastes everyone's time.
| Role | Owns | Typical background |
|---|---|---|
| Creative project manager | Schedule, workflow, scope, delivery | Agency PM, producer, coordinator |
| Creative director | The creative vision and quality | Senior designer, copywriter, art director |
| IT project manager | Software or systems delivery | Engineering, Agile, technical PM |
If you are a senior designer who wants to lead creative quality, read about remote creative director jobs instead. If your projects involve sprints, releases and engineers, the remote IT project manager guide fits better.
Job titles to search for
The words "creative project manager" alone will miss half the openings. Companies use different titles for the same work, so search all of these:
- Creative project manager: the most common title at brands, SaaS companies and creative-as-a-service firms
- Creative producer or content producer: common at agencies and video-heavy teams
- Creative operations manager or creative ops specialist: more about building the workflow and tools than running individual projects
- Creative production project manager or production manager: content agencies and studios
- Traffic manager or studio manager: an older agency title for routing work through the studio
- Account manager (creative services): sometimes a blended client and project role
- Creative project coordinator: the junior version, and a realistic first remote step
Coordinator titles are where most Nigerians without international experience break in. The general path from coordinator to manager is covered in our project coordinator career guide.
Can you do this job remotely from Nigeria? What real ads say
Yes, but only when the employer accepts your location. Three ads we opened show the range you will meet.
| Ad (checked October 2026) | Where applicants may live | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| Typeform, Creative Project Manager | US only, Eastern Time | Fully remote but not open to Nigeria |
| Brafton, Remote Creative Production Project Manager | South Africa only | Remote contract roles can be country-locked, even within Africa |
| Superside, Creative Project Manager | Fully remote, "globally distributed" team; no country list on the page | Check eligibility in the application form or ask before investing time |
The Typeform ad on Working Nomads was posted early in 2026 and had expired by the time we checked. It is still a useful lesson: "fully remote" sat alongside "USA only" and an Eastern Time requirement. Many creative project manager ads look exactly like this.
The Brafton ad on Lever is a full-time contractor role for candidates in South Africa. Brafton runs separate versions of the same role for other countries. A Nigerian applicant should not apply to the South Africa version and hope. Look for a version that names Nigeria, or one that says Africa or anywhere.
The Superside careers page describes a fully remote team spread across many countries, but the page itself does not list eligible countries. Treat that kind of ad as a "maybe": confirm in the form or with the recruiter. Our guide to what "worldwide remote" means when you apply from Nigeria explains how to read these phrases, and the explainer on what EMEA means in a remote job description covers the most common regional label.
We also checked Remote4Africa's project management category in October 2026. It listed product and general project management roles open to Africans but no creative project manager roles. That is normal for this niche. Creative PM openings for Africa are fewer than general PM openings, so expect to apply broadly and check often.
Why so many creative PM ads exclude Nigeria
Three reasons come up repeatedly:
- Live review calls. Creative work runs on fast feedback, and teams want their PM online when the client is. A US West Coast agency needs overlap that is hard to give from Lagos.
- Payroll and contracts. Some companies only have legal entities in a few countries. Others hire through employer-of-record services that may not cover Nigeria.
- Client-facing risk. Agencies put PMs in front of paying clients and prefer people with proven agency experience in the client's market.
Point one is something you can address. Show that you can cover European hours easily and US Eastern mornings when needed.
Time zones: what working hours look like from Lagos
Nigeria is on West Africa Time (WAT, UTC+1) all year. Creative PMs attend many meetings, so overlap matters more than it does for a designer working alone.
| Team location | Their 9am to 5pm in Lagos time | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| London (GMT, winter) | 10am to 6pm | Lagos is one hour ahead; very workable |
| London (BST, summer) | 9am to 5pm | Same time as Lagos |
| Central Europe (CET, winter) | 9am to 5pm | Same time as Lagos; easiest fit |
| US Eastern (EST, from 1 November 2026) | 3pm to 11pm | Late finish; common for US agencies |
| US Pacific (PST, winter) | 6pm to 2am | Usually unrealistic as a full overlap |
| Dubai (UTC+4) | 6am to 2pm | Early start |
Most realistic setup for a Nigerian creative PM: European or UK teams, or US East Coast teams that accept a few overlap hours each afternoon. When an employer asks how you will handle US hours, give a specific answer such as "I'm available until 9pm Lagos time, which is 3pm Eastern in winter." Our guide on answering questions about working across time zones has more on this.
Skills and tools employers ask for
The core skills
- Scheduling under pressure. Can you build a realistic timeline for 30 assets with three revision rounds and a fixed launch date?
- Scope control. Saying "yes, and here's what it moves" instead of quietly absorbing extra work.
- Feedback management. Consolidating comments from several stakeholders into one clear set of changes.
- Creative literacy. Superside's ad asks for an understanding of creative craft and a high-level grasp of digital advertising, social media and branding. You don't design, but you must know why a 15-second vertical cut takes longer than resizing a banner.
- Written English. Most updates happen in Slack messages and task comments, not meetings. Superside explicitly asks for excellent written and verbal English.
- Budget awareness. Senior ads expect you to scope work against hours or a budget.
The tools
From the ads we opened:
- Project management: Asana (named in the Typeform ad and in Superside's list alongside Notion and Trello). Monday.com, Wrike, ClickUp and Adobe Workfront are also common in creative teams.
- Communication: Slack, Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, Zoom or Google Meet.
- Design review: Figma. Typeform's ad wanted Figma for reviews and handoffs, with no design work required.
- Creative suite awareness: Superside lists Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects and InDesign. You need to understand file types and what each tool produces, not to be an expert.
- Digital asset management (DAM): systems for storing and versioning final files.
- AI tools: Superside mentions interest in Midjourney and ChatGPT and integrating AI into workflows. Expect questions about how AI changes creative timelines.
If you're choosing a tool to practise on, our comparison of project management software for remote teams can help. Asana's and Trello's free plans are enough to build a portfolio workspace.
Do you need PMP or another certificate?
No, not usually. None of the three creative PM ads we opened asked for a project management certification. They asked for agency or creative production experience.
A certificate helps most when you have no formal PM title yet. The Google Project Management Certificate on Coursera is seven courses, beginner level, and Coursera estimates about six months at around 10 hours a week. In the US and Canada it costs $49 a month after a seven-day free trial, prices may be lower in other countries, and financial aid is available (as of October 2026). PMI's CAPM and PMP are recognised more widely, but PMP needs documented project experience. Check current fees and eligibility on PMI's own website before paying. For a creative PM, a strong case study usually beats a certificate.
How much remote creative project managers earn
Pay depends on the employer's country, your seniority, your contract type (employee or contractor), and whether the company adjusts pay by location.
Here are the figures we could verify:
| Source | Figure | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| US Bureau of Labor Statistics, May 2025 | $102,320 a year | Median for all US project management specialists, not creative-specific |
| Typeform ad, early 2026 (expired) | $80,000 to $100,000 a year plus 5 to 10% bonus | Published range for a US-only, Eastern Time role |
| Brafton and Superside ads, October 2026 | Not stated | No pay published |
The BLS figure for project management specialists covers every industry and only US-based workers. It is a benchmark, not an offer you should expect from Nigeria. Remote pay for Nigeria-based workers is usually below US local pay, especially for contractor roles at agencies and creative-as-a-service firms that hire across many countries. Some employers pay one global band, but most adjust by location.
What pushes your rate up: proven agency experience with international clients, managing video and motion work (which has more moving parts), budget ownership, and experience setting up a team's workflow rather than only following one.
For broader project manager pay figures in dollars and naira, see our project manager salary guide.
Example (hypothetical): converting a contractor offer
Say a European agency offers a Nigeria-based creative project coordinator $2,000 a month as a contractor. This is an illustrative number, not a market rate. At WorkRemote's house rate of ₦1,362 to $1 (CBN NFEM weighted average, 23 October 2026), that is about ₦2,724,000 a month before fees and tax. Your actual naira amount depends on the payment app or platform and its exchange spread. Our guide to receiving dollar payments in Nigeria compares the options. Remember that contractors in Nigeria handle their own tax: see tax for remote workers in Nigeria.
Employee, contractor or freelancer?
The Brafton ad is a full-time contractor role, which is common for this job at agencies and content companies. You will meet three set-ups:
- Contractor, full-time hours: you invoice monthly, with no paid leave or pension unless the contract says so. Most common for Nigerians.
- Employee via an employer of record (EOR): a company like Deel or Remote employs you locally on the client's behalf. More protection, less common.
- Freelance project work: you manage one campaign or a retainer for a small agency or creator. A good way to build international references.
The differences in rights, tax and payment are explained in our guide to contractor vs employee (EOR) arrangements.
How to get a remote creative project manager job from Nigeria
1. Turn your current work into PM evidence
Many Nigerians already do creative project management without the title. Think of the account executive at a Lagos ad agency who chases the studio for campaign assets, the producer at a media house, or the social media lead coordinating designers and video editors for a brand. Write your CV around the project management parts of those roles: volumes, deadlines, people coordinated, tools used.
2. Build a project manager's portfolio (yes, PMs need one)
Designers show finished work. A creative PM shows the process behind it. Build two or three case studies, each with:
- The brief and the constraint (deadline, budget, number of assets)
- Your workback schedule (a screenshot of an Asana or Trello board, with client names removed)
- How feedback and approvals ran
- What went wrong and how you fixed it
- The result: delivered on time, revision rounds reduced, volume handled
Example (hypothetical): a case study outline
"Festive campaign for a Nigerian FMCG brand: 42 assets (static, 6 short videos, OOH adaptations) across 3 weeks. Built a workback schedule from the launch date, set two fixed review windows a week so the client stopped sending ad-hoc comments, and moved late requests into a phase-two list. Delivered all phase-one assets two days early."
Never invent a client or result. If your experience is thin, run a real project for a church, a small business or a friend's brand and document that honestly. Our guide to building a design portfolio for remote employers covers the creative side.
3. Show creative literacy without pretending to be a designer
Learn the basics of each format you will manage: aspect ratios for social placements, what an editor needs before starting a cut, why localisation adds review rounds. In interviews, use the vocabulary correctly. Hiring managers notice quickly when a PM doesn't understand what the team actually makes.
4. Search the right places with the right filters
Search every title from the list above, then filter by location. Job boards built on Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby often show the location clearly in the ad. Creative agencies and creative-as-a-service companies also post on their own careers pages, so check those directly. On WorkRemote.ng you can search remote jobs open to applicants in Nigeria by keyword. Each listing shows the company, its website and where applicants may live.
5. Expect a practical test
Creative PM hiring often includes a task such as building a schedule for a campaign brief, rewriting a messy feedback thread into clear actions, or prioritising a list of competing requests. Practise these. For common questions, use our project manager interview questions.
6. Write a sharp application
Lead with the numbers: projects managed at once, assets delivered each month, team size, tools. Mention your available overlap hours in the cover note. One clear line ("available 9am to 9pm WAT, covering UK hours and US Eastern mornings") answers the question employers worry about most.
Nigeria-specific realities for a creative PM
Creative PMs are the people everyone pings when something is late, so being offline costs you more than it costs the designer.
- Power: you need an inverter or solar set-up that lasts through a full day of calls, not only a few hours. A generator alone is noisy on calls.
- Internet: keep two connections, such as a fibre or Starlink line plus a MiFi or phone hotspot from a different network. Review calls with screen sharing use more data than chat.
- Large files: you will download and check video exports. Agree with the team on review links (for example Frame.io or Google Drive previews) so you don't download huge files on mobile data.
- Payment: contractor pay usually arrives through Deel, Remote, Payoneer, Wise or a direct USD transfer to a domiciliary account. Confirm the method before you sign.
- Identity checks: legitimate employers and EOR platforms will verify your identity after an offer. Know your NIN and keep your passport valid.
Red flags in creative project manager ads
Creative and marketing jobs attract scams because the work sounds glamorous and the tools sound technical. Walk away if:
- A "creative agency" asks you to pay for software licences, training or "project management certification" before you start
- The interview happens entirely on Telegram or WhatsApp with no video call or company email
- The salary is far above the range for the seniority, with no details about the work
- You're asked to "manage projects" that turn out to be reposting products, recruiting others or handling payments through your bank account
- The company website, LinkedIn page and email domain don't match

Frequently asked questions
Can a Nigerian work remotely as a creative project manager for a foreign company?
Yes, when the ad accepts applicants based in Nigeria, Africa, EMEA or worldwide. Many creative PM ads are limited to the US or to one country, like Brafton's South Africa-only contract role we checked in October 2026, so confirm the location rules in each ad before applying.
Do I need design skills to become a creative project manager?
No. You need to understand creative work, not produce it. Employers ask you to know formats, tools and why certain tasks take time, so you can schedule realistically and give useful feedback, but the designers and editors do the making.
How much does a remote creative project manager earn?
It varies widely and few ads publish pay. As a benchmark, the US median for all project management specialists was $102,320 a year in May 2025 (BLS), and one US-only Typeform creative PM ad listed $80,000 to $100,000. Nigeria-based contractors are usually offered less than US local rates.
Is a PMP certification required?
No. None of the creative PM ads we opened in October 2026 required one. Agency or creative production experience matters more. A beginner certificate such as Google's Project Management Certificate can help if you have no formal PM title.
What is the difference between a creative producer and a creative project manager?
The titles overlap heavily. Agencies and video teams often say "producer" for someone who also handles shoots, suppliers and budgets, while brands and SaaS companies more often say "creative project manager" for someone running in-house design and content workflows. Read the responsibilities, not just the title.
Can I start as a freelance creative project manager?
Yes, and it's a sensible way to build international references. Small agencies, YouTube creators and brands with several freelancers often need someone to run schedules and feedback part-time. Document each engagement as a case study for later full-time applications.
Which time zones are easiest for a creative PM in Lagos?
UK and Central European teams are easiest, because their working day matches or sits within an hour of Lagos time. US East Coast teams are possible if you work into the evening (their 9am is 3pm in Lagos in winter). US West Coast teams are usually difficult.
Key takeaways
- Remote creative project managers run the schedule, scope, feedback and delivery of design, video and content work. They don't own the creative vision.
- Many creative PM ads are US-only or limited to one country. Ads open to Nigeria exist but are fewer, so check the location line first and search several job titles.
- Agency and content production experience in Nigeria counts. Present it with numbers, tools and case studies of your process.
- Certificates help beginners but are rarely required. Asana-style tools, Figma review workflows and strong written English matter more.
- US pay figures (BLS median $102,320 for all PM specialists, May 2025) are benchmarks. Nigeria-based contractor pay is usually lower.
- Backup power and internet matter more for a PM than for most creative roles, because you are the person the team waits on.
