How it started
We started WorkRemote.ng in 2021, when the world went home
In 2021 the pandemic had closed offices everywhere. In Nigeria, many people lost their jobs or watched their pay shrink while prices kept rising. At the same time, companies abroad were learning something new: they could hire good people they would never meet in person.
That should have been good news for Nigerians. Instead, we kept seeing the same thing happen. Talented people, graduates, nurses, writers, developers, customer support staff, would find a job that said "remote", spend an evening on the application, and only at the last step read "US residents only". Then do it again the next day. Most never heard back.
So we started small: a list of remote jobs that genuinely accept applicants from Nigeria, each one checked before it went up. People found it, shared it, and wrote to us. They asked for more: help with a CV written for a foreign employer, help applying, help preparing for an interview at midnight Lagos time, and advice on visas for those who wanted to work from abroad.
We kept saying yes. Over the years WorkRemote.ng grew from a list into a team that edits CVs and LinkedIn profiles, applies to jobs for its members and prepares them for interviews.
In 2026 we rebuilt the whole platform from the ground up, to do that work faster and for more people. What hasn't changed is the reason we started.
Someone in Nigeria with the skills should not be turned away from a good job because of where they live.
