The best websites for finding remote jobs from Nigeria are the ones that tell you, before you apply, whether the employer will hire someone living here. In practice that means a mix: remote-only boards with location filters (Himalayas, Remotive, Remote OK, Working Nomads), LinkedIn and Wellfound for wider reach, and company career pages for the roles that never reach the boards.
Most lists of "remote job sites" stop at a name and a one-line description. That doesn't help much when half the jobs on a big board say "Remote, US only". This guide compares the main types of job websites and what each is good for. It also shows how each site labels location eligibility and what it costs you, then gives a weekly routine so you're not refreshing ten tabs every morning.
We checked each site's public pages in October 2026. Features and filters change, so treat the details as a snapshot and confirm on the live site.
Quick answer
The most useful websites for Nigerians seeking remote jobs combine remote-only listings with clear location labels. Himalayas has a Nigeria page and flags restricted roles, Remotive tags each job by region, and Remote OK filters by Africa. Add LinkedIn and Wellfound for reach, plus company career pages for direct applications. Always confirm on the full job ad that Nigeria, Africa, EMEA or "worldwide" is included before applying.
How we compared these job websites
We didn't rank sites by popularity, because we have no reliable traffic or placement data. We compared them on things that matter to a job seeker in Nigeria:
- Location labels: does each listing say where applicants may live, or do you have to open every ad?
- Location filters: can you filter for Africa, EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa), worldwide or Nigeria?
- Cost to job seekers: is browsing and applying free, or are some listings locked behind a subscription?
- Job type: full-time employment, contract, freelance gigs, or a mix.
- Data cost: a light page matters when you're on a MiFi bundle.
No site on this list is endorsed or verified by WorkRemote. Every job website carries some poor or fake listings, so the checks at the end of this guide apply everywhere.
The four types of remote job websites
The type of site matters more than the name. Each type hands you a different problem to solve.
| Site type | Examples | Main strength | Main weakness |
|---|---|---|---|
| Remote-only boards | Himalayas, Remotive, Remote OK, Working Nomads | Every job is remote | Many jobs restricted to US or Europe |
| General boards and networks | LinkedIn, Jobberman, Wellfound | Huge volume, recruiter contact | Remote filter mixes in local and hybrid roles |
| Company career pages and ATS boards | Employer sites on Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby | Direct from the employer, freshest | You must know which companies to check |
| Freelance marketplaces and communities | Upwork, Fiverr, Toptal, Slack and Discord groups | Open to Nigeria by design | Gigs, not jobs; competition on price |
A sensible search uses at least one site from each of the first three rows. Add the fourth if you're open to freelancing.
Remote-only job boards (the global job boards worth checking)
Remote-only boards are the global job boards most Nigerian remote workers start with. Every listing is remote, and the better ones label where applicants may live.
Himalayas
Himalayas is the most Nigeria-friendly of the global boards we checked. It has a dedicated remote jobs in Nigeria page. As of October 2026, listings on that page showed labels such as "Nigeria only" or a flag with a count of eligible countries (for example "+58 more"), and often the job type (Full Time, Contractor, Intern) and a salary range.
Good for: tech, product, design, marketing and operations roles where you want to see eligibility at a glance.
Watch out for: listings with no location label. On the page we checked, some roles showed no eligibility details at all, so you still have to open the ad. Himalayas says creating a profile and getting job alerts is free.
Remotive
Remotive's job search tags each listing with regions such as Worldwide, USA, Europe or LATAM, sometimes with "+N more". It also offers two location modes: "Available from my location(s)", which includes worldwide and regional jobs that cover you, and "Explicitly in my location(s)", which only shows jobs naming your location. For a Nigerian applicant, the first mode is the useful one.
Watch out for: the free view. As of October 2026, Remotive showed only a small share of its listings for free and sold a paid upgrade (all listings, early access, custom alerts, extra filters). The page we opened didn't state the price. Decide whether the paid tier is worth it only after a couple of weeks on the free view.
Remote OK
Remote OK's Africa filter narrows results to jobs open to Africa. It also has region filters (Worldwide, Europe, Middle East and others), a country list, a minimum-salary filter and a "highest paid" sort. When we checked in October 2026, individual listings in the filtered view didn't clearly show their eligibility label. Open each ad to confirm Nigeria is covered.
Good for: software, design and digital roles, especially if you want to sort by pay.
Working Nomads
Working Nomads groups jobs by region (including "Anywhere") and by country. It also sells a Premium subscription, though the page we opened didn't show a price. Start with the "Anywhere" region and read each ad's location section.
We Work Remotely
We Work Remotely is one of the older remote-only boards and is widely recommended for tech, design and marketing roles. We couldn't open its pages during our October 2026 check, so we can't confirm how its current filters work. If you use it, look for a region filter and only apply to roles marked anywhere in the world, Africa or EMEA.
General job boards and professional networks
General boards have far more jobs than remote-only boards, but their "remote" filter often mixes in local, hybrid and country-restricted roles.
LinkedIn matters for two reasons: volume, and the fact that recruiters search it for candidates. A good profile can bring you invitations without you applying. For searching, use the remote filter and try location settings beyond Nigeria, such as EMEA or a specific European country. Then read the ad's location line carefully, because many "remote" LinkedIn jobs mean remote within that country.
LinkedIn lets you save any search as a job alert: run the search, switch on the job alert toggle below the results, then choose daily or weekly and email or app notifications (LinkedIn Help: job alerts). Set up separate alerts for "worldwide", "EMEA" and "Africa" versions of your role.
For profile advice, see writing a LinkedIn profile for remote job opportunities.
Jobberman
Jobberman is a Nigerian board, and that is both its strength and its limit. As of October 2026, its remote jobs page has a "Remote (Work From Home)" filter. Most listings we saw came from Nigerian companies with salaries in naira, and a few were for roles serving overseas clients. Jobberman states that it never asks job seekers for payment.
Good for: naira-paid remote roles with Nigerian companies, which can be a realistic first remote job if you're building experience. It's not where you'll find most dollar-paid international roles.
Wellfound
Wellfound's remote listings focus on startups. As of October 2026, most listings showed a base salary range and many showed an equity range. Location labels such as "Remote only • United States", "Remote • Canada" or "Everywhere" make filtering easier. Many Wellfound roles are US-restricted, so look for "Everywhere" or a region that includes Africa.
Good for: tech, product and growth roles at funded startups, and comparing pay before you apply.
Company career pages and ATS job boards
Some of the best remote jobs never reach a job board, and many that do appear there later than on the employer's own site. An applicant tracking system (ATS) is the software companies use to post jobs and manage applications. Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby and Workable are common ones, and each company using them has a public job page you can bookmark.
To find these pages, search Google for your role plus a phrase like "remote EMEA", limited to an ATS domain (for example, searching the Greenhouse, Lever or Ashby job-board domains with the site: operator). Then bookmark the career pages of companies that hire across regions. We explain the method step by step in finding remote jobs on company career pages.
Example: how one employer labels location
Remote, the employer-of-record company, is a useful case. As of October 2026, its openings page put a region in each job title, such as "Manager, Mobility - EMEA" or "Payroll Specialist Lead - Netherlands". It also stated that these locations are "for advertising purposes only" and told applicants to check the "Practicals" section of each ad for location or time-zone restrictions. Two lessons follow:
- A region in the title is a starting point, not a final answer. Read the requirements section.
- EMEA includes Africa on paper, but an EMEA job may still exclude some countries. What EMEA means in a remote job description covers the label in more detail.
Remote's careers page also says the company never asks candidates to pay fees, buy equipment, or move the hiring process to WhatsApp or other unofficial channels. Expect that standard from any legitimate employer.
Freelance marketplaces, talent networks and communities
Freelance marketplaces are open to Nigerians by design, but they give you gigs and clients, not employment. Know which one you want before you invest time. Freelance work versus full-time remote employment compares the two.
- Upwork: a large marketplace where clients post projects and freelancers send proposals. Sending proposals costs Connects, which are paid credits, so budget for them. Check Upwork's help centre for current Connect and fee details.
- Fiverr: you list fixed-price services ("gigs") and buyers come to you. This suits clearly packaged work such as logo design, editing or voice-overs.
- Talent networks (for example Toptal for experienced engineers, designers and finance specialists): these screen you first and then match you with clients. They're selective, so they suit people with several years of strong experience.
- Communities: Slack and Discord groups, X (Twitter) accounts and newsletters for your field often share roles before boards do. Judge each post on its own merits, because nobody checks them.
Freelance income usually lands in your account through a platform or payment app. Our guide to receiving dollar payments in Nigeria covers the options and fees.
How each site shows location eligibility
This table summarises what we saw on each site's public pages in October 2026. "Label on listing" means you can see eligibility without opening the ad.
| Website | Label on listing | Africa or worldwide filter | Cost to seekers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Himalayas | Often (e.g. "Nigeria only") | Nigeria page | Free profile and alerts |
| Remotive | Yes (region tags) | "Available from my location" | Free view limited; paid upgrade |
| Remote OK | Not clearly shown | Africa region filter | Free to browse |
| Working Nomads | Not confirmed | "Anywhere" region | Premium subscription offered |
| Wellfound | Yes (e.g. "Everywhere") | Location labels | No seeker pricing shown |
| In ad text | Location and remote filters | Free (paid tiers exist) | |
| Jobberman | Remote filter only | Mostly Nigerian roles | States it never charges seekers |
| Company career pages | Varies by employer | Varies | Free |
Reading the labels correctly
Location labels mean different things, and misreading them is the commonest way Nigerians waste applications. The short version:
- Worldwide or Anywhere: usually open to you, but check for a time-zone requirement or a "except" clause.
- EMEA or Africa: likely open to Nigeria, but confirm the country list.
- Europe, UK, US or Canada only: usually requires you to live or have work authorisation there. Don't apply from Nigeria.
- Remote, with a city in brackets: often means remote within that country.
Full explanations are in what "worldwide remote" means when applying from Nigeria, how to interpret US-only and Canada-only restrictions and how to verify whether a remote job accepts Nigerian residents.
Time zones behind the labels
An EMEA or UK-hours role is usually the easiest fit from Nigeria. Lagos (WAT, UTC+1, no daylight saving) is on the same time as London in summer and one hour ahead in winter. Since the UK clocks went back on 25 October 2026, a 9am to 5pm London day runs from 10am to 6pm in Lagos. Central European hours match Lagos in winter. A US Eastern role means working into the night: from 1 November 2026, New York is 6 hours behind Lagos, so a 9am start there is 3pm here.
A weekly routine for using these websites
Checking every site daily burns data and time. A routine like the one below covers the main sources in a few hours a week.
Example (hypothetical): Chiamaka is a customer support specialist in Ibadan looking for an EMEA or worldwide role. Her week looks like this:
- Monday: Check Himalayas' Nigeria page and Remotive with "Available from my location(s)" switched on. Save five promising roles.
- Tuesday: Go through LinkedIn alerts for "customer support EMEA" and "customer support worldwide". Read each ad's location line before saving.
- Wednesday: Visit the career pages of ten bookmarked companies that hire across EMEA. Add new companies found on the boards that week.
- Thursday: Apply to the best four to six roles with a tailored CV, and log each one in a spreadsheet (company, link, location label, date applied).
- Friday: Scan Remote OK's Africa filter and Jobberman's remote filter for anything she missed, and follow up on applications from two weeks earlier.
The point of the spreadsheet column for the location label is simple. If a company rejects her quickly every time, she can check whether she misread the eligibility. Tracking remote job applications effectively has a ready-made layout.
Are paid job boards worth it?
Paid tiers are usually not worth it at the start. Remotive and Working Nomads both sold upgrades as of October 2026, and other subscription boards exist. A subscription may give you earlier access or more filters, but the same jobs often appear for free on the employer's own career page.
Try the free tiers for a month first. If a paid tier would save you real time, check the price in dollars, remember that your Nigerian card may add foreign transaction charges, and cancel if it isn't producing interviews. Paying a job board for access is different from paying an employer or recruiter to get a job. The second is a scam signal, covered below.
Warning signs on any job website
Every site on this page can carry fake listings, including the well-known ones. Leave the process if you see any of these:
- A request to pay for training, equipment, a "registration fee" or a visa before you start.
- An interview held only by text on WhatsApp or Telegram, with no video call and no company email address.
- A salary far above what similar ads offer, for a role needing no skills.
- A recruiter who can't name the company or whose email domain doesn't match the company's website.
- A request for your BVN, bank login or passport scan before any written offer.
Check the employer's own careers page: if the role isn't listed there, ask why. Our guide to spotting remote job scams in Nigeria goes through more examples. Where to find legitimate remote jobs in Nigeria covers choosing safe sources.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best website for remote jobs in Nigeria?
No single site is best. Himalayas came closest for Nigeria-specific filtering in our October 2026 check, because it has a Nigeria page and labels many restricted roles. Use it alongside LinkedIn and company career pages, because each finds jobs the others miss.
What are the best global job boards for Nigerian remote workers?
The global boards most useful from Nigeria are Himalayas, Remotive, Remote OK, Working Nomads and Wellfound, plus LinkedIn. They are useful because they let you filter by region or show where applicants may live. Many of their jobs are restricted to the US or Europe, so read each ad's location line.
Is Jobberman good for remote jobs?
Jobberman is good for naira-paid remote jobs with Nigerian companies, and it has a remote filter. It's less useful for international dollar-paid roles, which mostly appear on global boards and employer career pages.
Can I apply for jobs marked "Remote, US" from Nigeria?
Usually not. "Remote, US" normally means the employer can only hire people who live in, or are authorised to work in, the US. Apply only if the ad explicitly says it also accepts other countries or Africa.
Are Upwork and Fiverr job websites?
They are freelance marketplaces, not job boards. You win projects from clients rather than being hired as an employee. They're open to Nigerians and good for building a track record, but Upwork charges paid Connects to send proposals, so start with small, well-targeted bids.
How do I know a job on a job board is real?
Check that the role also appears on the company's own careers page and that recruiters use the company's email domain. A legitimate employer will never ask you to pay to be hired. If the process moves to WhatsApp or Telegram with no video interview, stop.
Should I pay for a remote job board subscription?
Not at first. Use free tiers for a few weeks. Pay only if a subscription clearly saves you time, and remember that most jobs on paid boards can also be found on employer career pages.
Which sites are best for remote developer jobs?
The general remote boards above all carry developer roles, and Wellfound is strong for startups. A dedicated guide to websites for finding remote developer jobs compares developer-specific options.
Key takeaways
- Use a mix of site types: remote-only boards, LinkedIn or Wellfound, and company career pages.
- Himalayas and Remotive showed location eligibility most clearly in our October 2026 check. Remote OK has a useful Africa filter.
- Jobberman suits naira-paid remote roles with Nigerian companies, not most international roles.
- A location label in a title or tag is a starting point. Confirm Nigeria eligibility in the full ad.
- EMEA and UK-hours roles fit Lagos time best. US roles mean afternoon-to-night shifts.
- Try free tiers before paying for any job board, and never pay an employer or recruiter to be hired.
